Re: + [ROM] [01/13/10] JUICY ROM (21889.5.0.87) [Landscape Sense UI] [XDA UC]

Officially Tested R8 and works almost perfect VZW TP2. Only things I had to setup was MMS settings(like all roms).

Bug found: Send/Recive of email accounts doesnt check for email unless I manually do it. All settings verified and should make it work.

GJ Juicy!

juicy's not going to answer your request, that is why people speak up. it's been brought up many, MANY times and there were even separate threads created for it. why you think you're the first to think up this bright idea is beyond me, but again, it's been asked tons of times.

and R6 not breaking your people's tab is BS. it breaks the quick text feature since htc messaging is disabled in R6 (it uses that as the shortcut, so if it's not enabled the shortcut doesn't work).

Man, does this thread ever suck.

the only thing we can hope for is Juicy starting a new thread so I dont have to read through 30 more pages of this crap - in hopes of finding 1 or 2 constructive posts.

juicy

i love your roms and have used them exclusively for some time now, but these last 2 roms have been extremely buggy. Im sure you're going to want a list but ive installed mal's since the bugs started. the main bug has been the actual slide out of the keyboard locking up the messaging app. sometimes you dont even see what you're typing even after you send the txt. I have to say i have never locked up using your roms or any rom since i have owned a wm device (close to 6 years now).

you're without a doubt a master at this stuff but even a master can make a few mistakes.

thank you for all your hard work and looking forward to r9

regards

First of all Juicy has answerd numerous of my questions i have been using his roms for a while just as others have and if you have a legitimate question he does answer he has answer me in the past but i forgot you already speak for juicy so i should just listen to lipidfats. I dont mind people speaking up what i mind is people speaking as though they are juicy, now what he says and what you say might be the same but let it come from juicy not lipidfats or Nygel or spectheinto or whoever. And its an obvious that it will break the quick text feature since your removing the texting app again duh.

Thats my take on it, now back to ROM development....
thanks Juicy

Now again because obviously people dont fully read my post and i quote"now i do respect your opinions but i didnt ask for your answer to the question." meaning you can give your opinion all you want its an open forum If i didnt want to see your opinions i would have sent a pm (homer simpson DUH) but if your answering a question NOT an opinion then the question was not meant for you. But yet again you speak for juicy i understand lol.

If you read my post yet again i state i respect your opinions but i didnt ask for your answer to the question i have no problem with banter or conversation from others. 2 heads are better than 1 so when you offer more heads you might come up with better solutions. BUT when a question is presented then you can offer your opinion but the question was given to another to answer. So i hear all your opinions but please people learn what is definition of an opinion.

Oh kjhadfield..... first yes offer your opinion im a intellectual so i value peoples thoughts and opinions, second its is an obvious to know it would break the quick text feature you removed the texting functioning app, but all other commands in the people tab worked for me. thirdly i dont know your background or mindset but when i site grown a$$ man i am referring to his age and his knowledge in the question given not his manhood. That was never in play, so where you went with that is beyond me.

Again please read fully before you debate something not meant for you to debate, please continue to offer opinions because again two heads are better than 1, so offer an OPINION but my QUESTION was given to juicy. If i wanted to pm i would have, its a button click away. Thanks thou. lol

1)you value ppl's thoughts & opinions-BS, cuz thats all we been doing, giving you our thoughts an opinions on the dam issue. has any1 of us said "NO" to your freaking question NO (your question was "can you(juicy) disable htc messaging in r9?") so has any1 said "NO"? has any1 said "yes"? NO, NOBODY HAS SAID EITHER YES OR NO B/C WE CANT ANSWER FOR JUICY, AS WE ARE NOT HIM, DUH!](*,) so b/c we havent said yes or no, how did we answer for him? or have we just been giving you our opinions/thoughts? (which you say you dont mind, so whats w/ this back in forth skit?)

2)what does the other commands in ppl tab have to do w/ the quick txt being disabled? doesnt help if thats how we have it, to txt that is.

3)i know what the hell you mean by grown as man, (that he is "grown" an "adult") hence me using manhood(in general) cuz i never refered to him not being "grown" or a "man":
Main Entry: man·hood
Pronunciation: \ˈman-ˌhu̇d\
Function: noun
Date: 13th century
3 : the condition of being an adult male as distinguished from a child or female
i guess to me its 1 in the same. that is being "grown" and an "adult"

4)you say read fully before you debate sumthing not meant for me to debate? if it wasnt meant to debate PM (PERIOD) but then agian all we been doing is giving you OUR OPINIONS (PERIOD)

so is the real problem you didnt like my opinions? you have to have the last word? (i'll admit thats me too) i think the biggest problem here is you confused our opinions/thoughts for "answering for juicy", its ok simple mistake.

i'd like to appoligize, on my behalf, to all the forum, for the wasted posts.
i'm sorry for feeding the fire, i'll hold back.

what kinda kb bugs; i havent noticed anything there. and w/ txt is it when you tap message in message tab and quickly open kb? or sumthing else? i have heard of that w/ the txt n kb opening (i dont usually open kb 4 quick txt thou.) the only thing i have noticed every once in awhile is opera closes sumtimes when i hit the back soft key. but other than that its gud.

although its strange as i was having a lot of issues b4 when i 1st flashed hard reset an another hard reset didnt fix it. so i decided to download the rom agian (w/ the mirror) and reflashed then hard reset and all those issues i had where gone. so maybe 4 me it was a bad download. maybe 4 you too?

for as long as I can remember Active sync has had some type of issue with appts, dates, etc from even the stock ROM days. I could be mistaken but it has been that way for me that why I don't use it.

Been on this rom for about 12 hours. I am having trouble finding the Today / Home screen settings. I am trying to apply different themes, turn on / off Sense etc.

I am coming from NRG so there, it would be start>settings>home. This rom's settings take me to the settings on Sense and I looked everywhere in there and can't find it.

I've done some searches, but didn't come up with much relating to it for some reason.
For some reason, I get some HUGE GPS lag. I think it's been the same with R6-8 at least.

Anyone have tips? Sometimes it can be hundreds of feet behind.

I didn't want to assume, but have you tried running quick gps first to update your gps information? I apologize if this is obvious but wanted to point it out just in case. By the way, love the name! Hail to the King!!!

Gimme some sugar, baby! My favourite trilogy/movies :D

I know you just said it because you have no knowledge of my experience, but it's appreciated.

I do use quickgps. I get an almost instant lock, which is great! But when driving, with say Tomtom, or even google maps, even with 8-10 satellites, it shows my position up to a kilometer behind me, which is extremely bad.

to answer some of the ongoing questions, it is hard to decide whether or not to include htc messaging - I can't please everyone!

What my ROM tries to do however is mirror what the most recent HD2 rom looks like, and in my opinion, HTC Messages is a big part of it. My carrier doesn't support MMS, and I think MMS is pretty lame anyways. It is the only thing that doesnt work well in the app, and you can disable HTC Messages so I think that solves your problem.

re: a messy thread

I will start a new thread for S0/S1/etc series of my roms once 6.6/6.5.x becomes a little more stable.

Juicy, I'm on Telus too, and having HTC messaging I think is great. I enjoy having it over the older messaging format.

Speaking of which, does anyone have the issue where when looking at messages, you see your own messages on top of your receipient's messages, and not in chronological order. It's odd. I've never seen it do this before.

Could someone please post a "working" background for all, i tried a few of them from this site and it made my locations on the front screen out of wack...

Juicy, I'm testing your rom right now, everything seems to work smoothly, ill report back if there is any problem. Keep up the good work!

Hope that clarifies things.

Keep it the way you designed it Juicy...that's my vote (for what its worth :))

BTW...YOUR ROMS ROCK!!!:headbang:

Seriously agreed. It's by far my favourite rom. I've tried quite a few that are essentially similar, but what keeps me coming back is how solid your roms are, the usability, some flash, stability, and welll, the total package.

Keep HTC messaging! Like you said, if someone doesn't like it, disable it! I avoid the other roms because others disable it, and I don't notice the performance difference some mention.

Re: + [ROM] [01/13/10] JUICY ROM (21889.5.0.87) [Landscape Sense UI] [XDA UC]

So after my previous post about the power button not responding immediately to turn the screen off, I re-downloaded and re-flashed with R8. Just for curiosity sakes, I compared the MD5 hash of my original R8 download with the new and they matched.

Now, after only a day on the ROM, it is becoming VERY slow, and sometimes Sense UI locks up or becomes unresponsive to any touches. For instance, I'll tap the power button to wake up the screen, and I'll see Sense UI, but the clock will be stuck on some time in the past. It seems if I go to Start and tap Phone, then X out, it will "wake" Sense UI up, but it's not a confirmed fix.

After a successful flash, I provision for Sprint. From there the phone and ROM perform wonderfully. Faster than any other build of Juicy.

Here's the setup procedure I follow:
  • Go to the "Me" contact and log in to Facebook.
  • Sync my Calendar and Contacts via ActiveSync. There are only about 30 contacts.
  • Go to All Contacts, Updates tab, then Update Now. This automatically syncs my contacts with the Facebook profiles.
  • Setup two Gmail IMAP e-mail accounts. I left the default settings other than to check every 15 minutes.
  • Install Telenav_Sprint_PPC_5.5.24.cab.
  • Install sprintnav_ppc_2.1.40.cab (for when Telenav expires)
  • I usually install FingerKeyboard-2.1-WVGA.cab, but this time I did NOT to see if that was causing problems.
  • Enable My Location in Sense UI, remove the other default locations, and set Weather to update every 1 hour.
  • Log into Twitter.
  • I go to Power settings and turn off auto power off when on external power.
  • I go to Task Manager and set the X button for press and hold to close programs.
And that's it.

Can anyone suggest why this ROM is slowing down and Sense UI is being such a pain? I think it is almost ALL Sense UI issues.

This is the Best ROM ive tried. The only thing is the text do not work when im on the phone (which is a pretty big deal). and the phone keept shuting off when I first installed but a hard reset resolved that.

PS if anyone has a text fix id appriciate it because I really do not want to change from this rom

Wow i haven't been in this thread in a while but see that the HTC Messaging is still causing heated debates. I have been trying other roms but found that Juicy's R6 without HTC Messaging included has been by far the most stable and best 6.5 ROM. I haven't had any issues at all with that ROM and that says a lot. I don't plan on switching from R6 ROM until Juicy comes out with another that doesn't include HTC Messaging. With that being said it is Juicy's choice and whatever he chooses to include and not include in his ROMS we have to live with and respect.

I don't know the time or work it takes to not cook in HTC Messaging in the ROMs but if its not a problem i would hope we can find a medium by having two ROM's like a R9 (a) with HTC Messaging and R9 (b) without HTC Messaging if Juicy sees it possible. Sorry but the disabling cab for the HTC Messaging is not the same as totally taking out HTC Messaging from the ROM. But once again whatever Juicy chooses is what we have to respect and atleast i have R6 no matter what happens.
