Re: Question about VZW TP

Ok, I got the radio installed. It was just a matter of me knowing that I had to unlock the phone first.

Now is it that same process for flashing to other ROM's? Which is recommended?

Once your phone is unlocked , flashing ROMs is just as easy. Which Radio did you end up using? I would recommend an SSK Rom for general Verizon use or if you want a Stripped SUPER fast Rom try lllboredlll "Stripper" Rom or kitchen (my current prefered kitchen and ROM.)

Also lllboredlll can help with your GPS HERE

I've got the totally stock VZW Touch Pro:
ROM: 1.03.605.4
Radio: 1.03.03V

The problems I'm having are that my signal strength is really weak where it used to be strong, and the battery dies REALLY fast under moderate usage. Also there is no GPS functionality.

I'm in Buffalo, NY and the signal level is all over the place, and drops out frequently when I'm streaming data/music online, even in areas where my Samsung i760 had solid performance just 2 weeks ago.

I'm not sure what I need, be it a new ROM or just an upgraded radio to get a better signal. Also, GPS functionality would be nice to work with Google Maps.

I'm not looking to be held by the hand on how to do everything, but I would like to know what I should be doing to help correct these problems. If there are any special recommendations, I would much appreciate them.

Note: While I am satisfied with the current ROM (speed-wise), I wouldn't object to something else, as long as it would address some of those problems listed.

Thanks in advance,
Jonathan
Keep the radio you have.

Upgrade ROM to SSK 1.5 Rev C2.

Treat your battery right and it will last longer. I just posted a wqhole diseration on how to treat these batteries to get the best life. Let me go find it....

Yup, correct.

It will just take longer and not bog out at 99% like the radios do.

Re: Question about VZW TP

I appreciate the help so far everyone. As of now, I've tried the Sprint and Telus radios, with the Telus installed right now. None of them seem to be very good. I really had great service even in my basement with my Samsung i760 as I mentioned, but it's really just dismal now. It constantly switched to 1x service.

How likely is it a physical issue with my phone?

Also, I have the MightyROM 4.14 installed now, and its really cool, but it quickly runs out of memory. I'm not sure what else to do. Any other suggestions?

Thanks again guys, I'm clicking thanks on all your posts...

Hahahahaha
Your funny.

Did you take the time to read what I said?

If not look above

I told you even before you swapped radios it was useless. There is no advantage in changing them. I know this will turn into a HEATED debate but I have yuet to see ANY advantage of one radio over another.

Secondly might ROM is a great ROM but is not geared toward the VZW Pro. I am the only one besides bored and FPOS (who both shares files with me) that writes exclusively for the VZW version. Yes, most other ROM"s you will be out of memory quickly. If you want a ROM that was designed for YOUR device check out my work, Bored work or FPOS's work. We write exclusively for your phone. I have been doing it since the Pro came out and can tell you that non VZW writers will not run well on your phone due to the missing 128 Megs of RAM.

Good luck to you which ever ROM you choose.

NO , your not alone to a certain degree. My Verizon TP shows lower bars than any of the devices I have had before except my Omnia (that was the worst). My Alltel TP was the same way it just had horrible "bars" compared to my wifes phone where ever we were. The diference is my Alltel TP would loose service and dropped/missed calls constantly (the Alltel Service sucked IMO) but I live in a really good Verizon coverage area and never have any dropped calls or "no service" with my Verizon Touch Pro even though the "bars" can be low sometimes.

Do keep in mind that the bars arent a very good indication of your signal strength though, they are a nice ballpark but can be highly deceptive and inaccurate.

Well, I think it depends on alot of differnt factors. The first being your location. I live in Fargo, get good reception for both Sprint and VZW. I never have the issues people report with Battery and Reception.
