One thing I noticed is that when I connect by cable, the gateway my device gets assigned has a 192.168.0.1 IP...which I assume is the phone. However, when I connect via bluetooth, it gets a gateway IP of 169.254.3.109...not sure what that is, but I think it's something out on the internet with that IP address. Trying to ping that 169 address gets frequent timeouts, and only works occasionally, which is exactly what happens when I try to browse sites. They work only occasionally.

I don't know if this means anything, but I'm not sure why the IP's would be assigned differently based on whether it's USB or bluetooth...that doesn't make any sense to me.

Help from any of you network gurus would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks!
There is nothing on the Internet with an IP address of 169.254.x.x that is a reserved set of IP addresses for networks when no DHCP server is found. They are called APIPA (Automatic Private IP Addresses.) They only route local traffic and should not route any Internet traffic. When using ICS it shouldn't matter USB or bluetooth. You could always statically assign the computer an IP address in the 192.168.0.x range and give it a gateway of 192.168.0.1 (Subnet should be 255.255.255.0) and that should work. That's at least a workaround for now.

Is it bad that I like reading Juicy's posts just because of the avatar? (Not that the ROM isn't of value as well)

Awesome info, thank you.

Just to test, I flashed my phone to an old MightyROM, ran IS over bluetooth, and checked my IP with that. Sure enough, the gateway is set to 192.168.0.1...and I was able to browse from my PC just fine...just like it does on the Juicy Rom when connected via USB.

So, I think this is the issue...it must not be finding a DCHP server when connecting via bluetooth. Any ideas on why that might be happening?

I'm assuming the phone should be the DHCP server, right?

Thanks again...

Just flashed back to Juicy...tried to force my IP and the gateway IP. Still doesn't work. 8^( Tried to ping 192.168.0.1 when connected over bluetooth, and no response.

Maybe for whatever reason, the bluetooth connection isn't setting up a personal area network like it does when connecting over USB?

You're right, there is a file missing from WM naturally. I have attached the file required to use Bluetooth in a PAN. Inside of the .rar file is a .exe file. Just extract the .rar to the phone and run the .exe file from the phone. The .exe file is a PPC executable file. Not meant to be ran from your computer.

PS. I should make a note that it loads into the background so you will never see it actually load anything.
Attached Files
File Type: rar Bluetooth%20PAN.rar (1.6 KB, 16 views) Click for barcode!
