Re: 23 Jan 09 - [VZW] SSK 1.2 now with 'SSK Online!' Technology {CE OS 21109} UC!

I finished my Battery Drain Test using all three radios that have been discussed. The stock Verizon 1.03.03v, Sprint 1.11F, and the Telos 1.04 Update.
All were run under identical conditions. GPS On using the HTC GPS tool and GPSToday, data streaming using Pocket Streamer watching a streaming TV Station thru Windows Media Player (WiFi Connection, not Data Connection), ActiveSync, and Full Brightness on the screen along with the application Pocket Battery Analyzer. The phone was not hooked up to active sync....it was running totally on the battery, with no charging. Screen16 shows
1) Maroon/Red - Verizon Radio
2) Green - Sprint Radio
3) Orange/Yellow - Telos Radio

As you can see, they are all nearly identical. Practically speaking, I'm not surprised. The radio is a piece of software, not different chips. The signal/data for all comes thru the same antenna. The all use the same hardware, so the results should be the same. The performance difference between the radios would be derived from how they utilize the data that is coming in, not in better hardware specifications.
For example,
Company "A" might want to recieve all calls/data, irregardless of how weak the signal or how few towers are seen. They would then set the software to accept the weakest signal...even if there are dropouts because of the weak signal.
Company "B" might want to be sure there are no dropouts or lost calls. They would set their software such that the weaker signals are filtered out and only signals that meet a certain criteria are p***** on thru.
Company "C" may filter the input so that either clear voice or accurate data is emphasized.
That would be the difference in the radio performance, not the battery drain. Unfortunately, I don't have the capability to test the above. But better battery performance seems to be just "perceived", not reality. Now if you the CPU load by not having all those apps running simultaneously, then Yes, the battery would last longer.. in an earlier test with nothing running but "Full Brightness" the battery lasted about 5 hrs before it got to the 10% level. In the Pic "SCREEN 10" shows the comparison between "no load"(red and Turquoise/Blue) and with GPS Running (Green)
Hope this test helps someone.
Bob

Re: 23 Jan 09 - [VZW] SSK 1.2 now with 'SSK Online!' Technology {CE OS 21109} UC!

Scott - Just flashed a new ROM using the 1.2 Kitchen. Now that we know how to 'fix' the pop ups popping up in the top left, and also you put in a very good Youtube OEM, this already surpasses 1.1 by quite a ways, for me anyways. I also did notice the VAST improvement in File Explorer speed, opening up \Windows. VERY nice. I haven't really got to play with it much more, but I will note a couple bugs or things I didn't prefer, vs. VZN 3.0:

In Settings - Phone - Services - Network.... the option to select Home or Automatic, the option is not selected by default, and when I try to set it to Automatic, it defaults back to no selection when I reset. Not sure if this is going to affect me when I'm roaming or what....

The OS version on the About panel... the OS version and the Build version show different numbers. I could be wrong but I believe this is the first time I've seen this? Shouldn't they show the same? On VZN 3.0, CE OS is 5.2.20954, and Build is 20954. On SSK 1.2, CE OS is 19XXX, and Build is 21XXX

The touch screen calibration... on VZN 3.0, this calibration is SPOT ON!!! I never had to TOUCH the calibration on 3.0. ON SSK 1.2, the calibration seems off, especially in the top right corner. I had to reload VZN 3.0 and use Total Commander to make a backup of the reg entry for this... you had it more perfect than I could ever get it by hand.

Favorites - There are five IE favorites that I can't seem to get rid of!! I can delete them from IE, I can delete the entire \Windows\Favorites folder and create a new one, but when I open Quickmenu (start menu replacement) and open the Favorites shortcut there, those five favorites are still there!! I did not have this issue on VZN 3.0.

Oh, and BTW, did you look for ssk.mobi or .us ?

EDIT: ok, just looked, ssk.mobi is already gone too

I'm 6 pages behind so don't beat me if this has already been resolved....but sskmobile.com is available. Also, sskonline.com has been purchased, but the whois lookup shows contact info for someone in NY...maybe we can talk her out of it cheap

LOL I don't even know to be honest with you! I didn't think it was a big deal, but figured it's better to mention it if it COULD cause a problem, than just to ignore it.

i may already know what they are -- maybe i'm drawing a huge blank

also, has anyon tried the V4 Black Slide to Answer with canvas yet? I'm thinking about loading it up

I have used it and like it enough to keep it on this new version of SSK.

Ok so I hard reset, and it seems as though the text messaging bug is gone, and I can view my sent folder and what not normally now instead of all jumbled up.

Question now is this: i didnt install the vz theme black from ssk online, its just the stock tf3d right now. maybe the theme install was messing it up? Im gonna try it and see if it does brb!

This is awesome!
Yep I agree. I love mighty ROM but its not perfect for our device. Never tried Dream, gotta one day...

Keep in mind with my ROM, it desgined by an xv6850 user for XV6850 users. Inother words I spent time to make sure this is for US. not the other guys.

What is the diff between Diamond config and advanced config? Any issues if both are installed? Any pros/cons to having one over the other because i was thinking about installing both?

Thanks in advance!
