Re: 23 Jan 09 - [VZW] SSK 1.2 now with 'SSK Online!' Technology {CE OS 21109} UC!
I finished my Battery Drain Test using all three radios that have been discussed. The stock Verizon 1.03.03v, Sprint 1.11F, and the Telos 1.04 Update.
All were run under identical conditions. GPS On using the HTC GPS tool and GPSToday, data streaming using Pocket Streamer watching a streaming TV Station thru Windows Media Player (WiFi Connection, not Data Connection), ActiveSync, and Full Brightness on the screen along with the application Pocket Battery Analyzer. The phone was not hooked up to active sync....it was running totally on the battery, with no charging. Screen16 shows
1) Maroon/Red - Verizon Radio
2) Green - Sprint Radio
3) Orange/Yellow - Telos Radio
As you can see, they are all nearly identical. Practically speaking, I'm not surprised. The radio is a piece of software, not different chips. The signal/data for all comes thru the same antenna. The all use the same hardware, so the results should be the same. The performance difference between the radios would be derived from how they utilize the data that is coming in, not in better hardware specifications.
For example,
Company "A" might want to recieve all calls/data, irregardless of how weak the signal or how few towers are seen. They would then set the software to accept the weakest signal...even if there are dropouts because of the weak signal.
Company "B" might want to be sure there are no dropouts or lost calls. They would set their software such that the weaker signals are filtered out and only signals that meet a certain criteria are p***** on thru.
Company "C" may filter the input so that either clear voice or accurate data is emphasized.
That would be the difference in the radio performance, not the battery drain. Unfortunately, I don't have the capability to test the above. But better battery performance seems to be just "perceived", not reality. Now if you the CPU load by not having all those apps running simultaneously, then Yes, the battery would last longer.. in an earlier test with nothing running but "Full Brightness" the battery lasted about 5 hrs before it got to the 10% level. In the Pic "SCREEN 10" shows the comparison between "no load"(red and Turquoise/Blue) and with GPS Running (Green)
Hope this test helps someone.
