why did you go back to 3.29?

just testing the theory of 3.30 causing faster battery drain on hardware version 1-3 of EVO

so far, v4.0x seems to be better on battery, but I need to test a fews days

I think the stock AOSP browser actually has the ie6 user agent string built in maybe. Found some info where ppl had ported it off the N1 because of this function (or were just pointing out this function)

I think Calk may be the guy to hit up for this since he has been modding the HTC browser to behave more like the stock AOSP browser... maybe he will look into this for you (us) if you ask him. :) Found a little video showing some differences b/t the two, it doesn't show the user agent switch but, like I said, I did read the the stock 2.1 off the N1 had this option so I doubt they removed it from the AOSP 2.2 version.

Here's is some info on the 2.1 port talking about the UA string stuff...

I don't know what to think, personally my battery life hasn't really changed regardless of which one I flashed and this goes for the countless roms I have flashed as well. It seems like there are so many different factors that determine battery life.

I run Dolphin HD which has the ability to change the UA but no IE6 option... just Android, Desktop, iPhone, and iPad :(

Don't know of any full ports of the AOSP 2.2 browser for our phones? Do you?

... Can I just download say Cyanogen's Stable MOD ROM and pull out the browser.apk and install it? ... or maybe pull it from his rom and swap it out in your deodexed rom pre-flash? I have started altering your rom at all yet like taking stuff out or putting stuff in before flash. Can you just add stuff in the /system/app folder pre-flash without any sig issues?

I alter OMJ's ROMs pre-flash all the time with no issues. Just don't extract/unpack the .zip. Replace/remove the file(s) with WinRAR or 7zip...I personally use WinRAR. As far as /system/app goes, you shouldn't have any signature issues in system...even if you edit an .apk.

I would either replace the browser.apk pre-flash, or after flashing the ROM use a flashable .zip to overwrite the browser.apk, or use ADB. Don't try and install the browser.apk file, I sense only issues with that approach.

Hope that helps.

I just flashed 4.0 on Saturday, coming from 3.8x. Sat/Sun it did seem as though the battery was discharging faster than usual. I'm at 25 hours unplugged with 28% remaining...average use for me (bunch of texts, about ten 10 minute phone calls, some internet browsing, playing with the camera). Also running stock kernel and I don't use SetCPU or anything.

I'm holding off on 4.0x until I get a better idea on battery on 4.0. Battery seemed fine to me on 3.30.651.2. Curious if maybe something with .3 is causing more drain.

Crap!... replaced the browser.apk from Cyanogen's rom in the 4.0x rom pre-flash (using winRar) and when I try to open the browser... "Sorry! the application Browser (process.com.android.browser) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." GRRRR! ](*,)

Any suggestions? ... btw, have no idea how to make a flashable zip of this browser.apk nor where to get one

Can you upload the browser.apk from Cyanogen's ROM for me to check out?

Did you change the extension from browser.apk to browser.rar?

I'm attaching a flashable .zip with the browser.rar file you uploaded with the extension changed back to browser.apk. Boot into recovery and flash the .zip. Let me know if that works out a bit better for you.

Yeah, after I extracted it from Cyan's rom to my desktop I changed it just because I wanted to look inside it... just left it that way when I uploaded it
