An "odex" can be thought of as a collection of parts of applications that have been pulled out and optimized before booting. This speeds up the boot process - in a way, it preloads part of the applications - but it also makes hacking those apps difficult because part of the original code is already extracted somewhere else.

Deodexing is just a process of putting those pieces back into the original applications. It takes a while to extract those parts and build the .dex cache (aka Dalvik cache), but only because the relevant parts aren't in an easy-to-access place for the system. The advantage of this is that an app can be modified effectively and the developer doesn't have to worry about conflicts from the separate odex part of the code.

So, short version: "Deodexed" ROMs have all their apps put back together. If an app can be themed, for example, a deodexed version of that app will not get messed up when the modified .apk tries to mesh with the odex of the original un-modified .apk. Because it's not there.

If you want an aftermarket theme, you need a deodexed ROM. I'm not sure if deodexing can be done to individual apps within a non-deodexed ROM.

I go with Deodexed myself.... Hope this helps. Take longer to boot but honestly I dont see much of a difference. Depends on RoMs and themese if there on there.
Yeah that help alot!!! I really don't care about themes that much, but if I get into it I will know what's going on! (Side note I seen something over there in xda about custom themes fixed to work properly...I'm assuming it was for the odex roms as it would make sense, but don't quote me!

Right there with you man... I just flashed to v3.2 not too long ago with Kernel#4 with no issues and working like magic just recently updated my PRI and left my wimax radio alone. So far I love it but just dreading having to re-wipe everything and place them on my screens again. Grant it I have a backup of my apps its just organizing it and settings alllllll over again..... Maybe I will make the jump... I downloaded it now just debating... Other then it being quicker whats the advantage? Mine works well w/ no issues so why change it when its not broken?.?.? thx

Re: OMJ's HTC EVO 2.2 Custom ROM v3.4 | FroYo 3.29.651.5 | *Updated 9/24/10*

My weather on the clock widget will not change from My Location. It was fine until yesterday, when I flashed 3.3. It has always worked for me, but I know it doesnt work so good for some. Now I am amongst the ones who it does not work. I have the locations set up correctly under settings.

Here is the weird thing. When I press where the weather should be under the clock, it takes me to the desktop clock page with the stop watch, timer tabs, etc. Under that clock on the first tab I press where the weather should be and it takes me to the weather app. No city located.

Thats odd I have only seen instances like that on non-rooted devices... Strange... But the way I have fixed it was just updating data profiles and then just clear the data on the Weather APP. Im sure you know how to clear data but if not then go to MENU>SETTINGS>APPLICATIONS>MANAGAGE APPLICATIONS>ALL TAB>set it for size or A-Z and find weather app clear data and reset phone. Try it then... I did that and worked for me. Not sure if it will work for you. Worth a shot? If that dtill doesnt work then maybe ##3282#?? hmmm Ill look into this when I get into work tomorrow if no one else can fig it out.

Ok so i have flash the last 3 or 4 OMJ rom updates but I have not once had to redo settings. Everytime I restart, all my icons are in the same place, all my contacts are still there. No new programming needs to be done at all. I am only cache wiping then dalvik wiping twice. No complete wipe. Am I messing something up by doing it this way? I have titanium backup but never have to use it because everything is still how I left it after I flash.

Try wiping both twice and then flash the rom! or make it easier for your self and use clockworkmod and install rom from sd card and select wipe + cache (make sure it's selected) and you should start off fresh!

Weather working fine here Bro. It may be a temp issue.

@ALL-just a heads up-there may be an issue with Wireless Tether-OMJ is aware.

To my understanding you should do a full davlik wipe along with cache and then wipe data in order for the new build to work correctly...Your going from 3.28 to 3.29 not just flashing new roms. If you dont you could have future issues with the build. Quote me if im wrong... But this is what I have researched over the net over time. Now if its just a new rom then ya just davlik and cache wipe but since a new baseband or software or whatever its called you should do the full wipe... Let me know cuz if not then im flashing right now. anyone confirm? Cuz if no I will just do a dalvik and cache wipe and then just flash the new v3.4 and keep everything data wise intact. thx
