So, for the sake of gaining knowledge, not argument, can an XIP be stripped down, rebuilt or optimized to the point that it might be device-specific?
My mistake - I meant one base per device per build. You could do it one base per build, and we might move to that, but presently one base per device is the most effective thing to work from. Note that this doesn't prevent people from introducing their own tweaks, it just cuts down on duplicate effort.

That'd be fine if "old school" didn't have significant drawbacks. As it does, and they aren't doing it for nostalgic reasons, it's ignorance.

I am willing to admit my ignorance, so please enlighten me as to what the "significant drawbacks" are? Is it simply the fact that PPCKitchen will overwrite duplicate files? What else?

If PPCKitchen had better documentation, I would likely use it more. I don't mean how to build a basic rom with the packages that you supply but how to do some advanced cooking, and use your own bases with the kitchen. You mentioned earlier that PPCKitchen will automatically display your name in he rom, but how do we choose what we want it to display?

I've used PPC Kichen many times, and it is quite good. However, it is just a little too automated my my liking. I like bepe's tools, because I know what they're doing. It's true that my knowlegde of how PPCKitchen works is limited, so please educate the masses!

Also, if I could be sure that I could build a rom without needing an internet connection, I would be more likely to use PPCKitchen.

In the end, is there really anything superior in a rom built with PPCKitchen vs Bepe's tools, or is it simply the process??

Re: How to Build a ROM so it displays your name

This might be a bit off topic or maybe not. If I flashed a rom of my choice then rename it as an official rom followed by a relock, can it pass as official before Sprint repair techs? Or is there more to hide than just the rom name?

You should relock, then flash back to a "ship" rom (which includes rom, radio, and spl).

You mean a ROM update with new features?

Probably not anytime soon, as the Diamond is pretty well got a bunch of newer stuff.

Maybe a maintance build or something might come down the line, but I honestly belive that Juicy/Calcu/Mighty/Tobey and all the other's out there (sorry if I didn't meantion you), will have those maintaince fixes long before an HTC response.

My question was regarding disguising a custom rom. Actually I was looking to use one of yours.
