It would just be nice if I could make one lump donation and know that it would get handled appropriately.

Maybe no2 doesn't care, but give hime proper respect and make sure he's cool with this distribution.
You might want to look at my previous workings with him before you jump to any conclusions. Also, how is distributing the battery.dll in a cooked rom any different than providing it through a cab? All the credit goes to him and its even in the install name.

I do know that you've worked with him in the past, and in all likleyness he's ok with it, but it would be good to be sure. The difference is that he has specifically said it's ok (for CP Donators) to use it in their roms (and most of us have checked with him anyway). He never said (to my knowledge) that free distribution of the files was OK.

Re: no2chem "Fast Charge" Battery.dll

I am 99% sure that my interpretation of what he wrote on his site about distribution and giving credit falls in line with his guidelines. That combined with my workings with him in the past lead me to believe that this is not an issue. However, there is the 1% chance he would mind, so I took the file down.

I don't plan on reposting it regardless if he gives permission or not. I previously emailed him the filee so he can post it on his site if he wants. I am just tired of putting my time and effort into helping others and getting criticism. It's just not worth the hassle sometimes.

If anyone wants a copy, talk to no2chem via his website. Due to his email issues and his current workload, it might be a few weeks before he can get back with you.

I do appreciate the positive PMs I got. Thank you for those.

Re: no2chem "Fast Charge" Battery.dll

stroths, you can count one person in - me - that is grateful for the time you took to write this up.

That's the one thing that bothers me about these sites - the donation police. If I feel the work is worth donating to or the person is deserving of some financial help, I will. Reminds me of what's happening in Washington where politicians think they know what to do with my money more than I do. I think us users realize the value of this software and will donate if we feel it's deserving. That's why it's called a donation.

Re: no2chem "Fast Charge" Battery.dll

I don't think you were wrong in helping people use it, the credit was given as it should be.

as for coolguy, there's a big difference between building a ROM and rewriting part of a dll. no2chem doesn't charge for his stuff, but without him a lot of this stuff wouldn't exist. The same can't be said for 99% of the members here, including myself.

Donation police exist because some people think it's a nice form of credit, and the $5 makes a difference on the other end.

Your notion of "donation police" exists because of the optional nature of donating. If it was a "have to", then those people wouldn't exist at all. If they wanted the software, they would buy it. But I think some of the users (especially those of us in the software business) recognize just how much time and effort goes into developing an app/tool/ROM, etc, and we will try to help those who produce the goods, and encourage others to do the same.

What I'm trying to get at is, while we may remind or suggest that you donate to those who contribute, you're not obligated to do it. It's just a nice way to say thank you, even if it's only $5. If you can't afford $5, hey, times are tough and I understand. Of course, if that does matter so much to some of us, we probably shouldn't have $200-$300 phones, either.

For the record, I'ver never asked for a donation, nor would I. My work simply isn't worthy, and even if I thought it were, I would not feel comfortable asking for money. That said, I've donated to many here, and I feel it's money well appropriated. After all, 'tis better to give than to receive!

Re: no2chem "Fast Charge" Battery.dll

I have no problem with developers posting a link to donate or even asking "hey if you like it, be kind enough to donate". My complaint is more toward the forum members that always post "make sure you donate" that aren't developers. It seems to exist on every forum. I guess its more annoying than anything. I was venting.
