It is Power button, down volume, bottome right hard buttone (below the back arrow), and the reset button on the back. Hold all of them for about 5 seconds and i will boot to the bootloader. You might need to get someone else to help you being that your volume isnt working properly but you should be able to push it with anything small like a tooth pick or something.
No its vol down, then reset and the last button is power (while not letting go of any resulting in holding all three at the same time, but order does matter, its finnicky any other way). In fact sometimes the device has to be powered down(i.e in standby or off) in order to do it. It works every single time when I do it in this marnor and in this order.

edit: by any chance do you know if the button you took off had a metal contact on the back? Perhaps you may need to use something metal to press it, like a paper clip.

As for activesync connections.. good luck.. once your phone is stuck on boot, its pretty much impossible to get windows to read it, nor will it force it back into bootloader if you try to flash. The only way I am aware is to go into the bootloader, and if he can't do that, he could be in trouble.

I must be asking the wrong question, sorry. How do I get rid of the planet on Manila? I want to be able to use the scroll and not see the earth from left to right. IS that called the wallpaper? HOw do I make it look all black or like HTC. Thanks!

calc uses whats called a "panoramic wallpaper" on his tf3d. You can turn that off with a cab that basically replaces the appropriate manila files with some that hold the steady wallpaper that you can change with settings.

Re: [ 10-3 ][ v3 ][ 6.5.1 / 6.5 / 6.1 ] Calkulin's Visual HTC Kitchen & ROMs

Got an odd one ... My Comm Manager screen is now totally black--as in can't see any words or buttons. Clicking particular areas on the screen still seem to perform the particular function (judging by the icons at the top of the screen changing appropriately). In the kitchen, I'm not using the Leo Comm Manager and I selected the Black/Blue Comm Mgr option. I'm going to hard reset and maybe re-flash to see if that fixes it, but just wondered if anyone else has come across anything similar.

UPDATE: Hard reset didn't change it. So I checked my kitchen settings and although I'm positive I selected a skin when I built, there wasn't a Comm Manager skin selected at all.

There was one earlier in this thread that Calk posted, but if I remember correctly according to those who tried it it wasn't signed and didn't work for them.
