Note to Sprint - Logic does not = market adoption.

Sprint has been aggressive lately with their release of new phones and refresh of their phone plans.

However, they are still distinctly at a disadvantage to AT&T and Verizon and their announcement is not big, it will not drive inflows.

Verizon has the most reliable network (perhaps open to debate). AT&T has the Iphone and is aquiring new spectrum to improve their coverage.

Sprint needs to be more aggresive on phone pricing, the initial up front costs of phones impacts the consumer market greatly. The majority of American consumers purchase phones based on up front costs.

Give a consumer an option of a $99 dollar phone vs a $250 dollar phone and they will choose the $99 even if the long term costs are greater with the $99.

Aggresively market the Pre, Hero, touch series at aggressive pricing and you will stem the outflows and maybe even see inflows.

I believe Sprint has roaming agreements with Verizon. Effectively making the two networks "reliability" identical.

Both the Pre and Hero will about $150 after discounts.

I think Sprint has the best prices and best phones out right now. Sounds like a winning strategy to me.

I think that Sprint is making a market change. I mean if you really think about it. If you talk to mostly to people who have mobile phones it works out great. Now of course there are business users who call a lot of landlines for conferencing that will make it not possible to drop the plan because they use a lot of minutes for that. The phones are competitvely priced in my opinion. The Pre just dropped to 149 and the Hero is going to be 179. Of lately Sprint has gotten better phones and this change will just increase business for them. The coverage issue all depends on the user if that service doesn't work well in your area and your dropping calls then time to switch to an service that works for you. Good Job Sprint. Its about time.

If you look, you can get the new TP2 from Verizon for $199.99 after mir, from T-mobile for the same price, if you go through one of their other channels, and I heard they are going to offer it for $199 in the store now. But Sprint is stuck on the $349. after mir, they need to wake up. A friend just bought a new phone from T-mobile with new service, and they bill the phone to you over three months, and giving anyone who ports over a number 15% off their bill for life.

Sounds great but how much are they paying for the service? Compare it to a comparable plan on other carriers and see how it adds up after 2 years.

I did a quick little comparison of a TP2 on T-Mobile and Sprint:

TMobile
TP2 - $349.99
My Faves 600 - $49.99 x 24 months = $1199.76 (minus 15% = $1019.80)
Unlimited Internet and Messaging - $39.99 x 24 months = $959.76 (minus 15% = $815.80)
2 yearTotal $2509.51 (minus 15% service disc. + $2185.59)


Sprint
TP2 - $349.99
Everything Data 450 w/ Any Mobile, Anytime - $69.99 x 24 months = $1679.76
2 Year Total $2029.75

yeah open to debate becasue verizon and sprint are equal to that in every area they work.
Any place verizon works my sprint phone works PERFECT. Never had an issue and I've been anywhere from the Rockies to Maine. AT &T has the iphone for now and that will be changing in 2010 not sure why anyone would wnat it not that great of a phone they almost forgot the phone part but their reliability still sucks. I talk to my father on the phone at least once a week and his phone always drops the call. Sprint just upped the ante on the competition. no FAV rip offs they went above that and now I can call 250 million customers around the country for free...

I pay 129.99 for 3 lines of service which includes 1500 minutes unlimited weekends, evenings data texting, picture mail gps, and now any mobile. Equivalent plan costs with AT &T around 200+ , T mobile 200+ and Verizon was like 250+. I think Sprint is very competitive in pricing only real pricing issue they have is phones.


agreed above. Pre shoudl be 99. Pixie when it comes out should be 49. Touch pro 2 shoudl be 199. HTC hero shoudl be 150. Aggressive phone prices and the current aggressive phone plan prices= win for sprint.

AT & T 224.95
3 lines windows mobile professional. 1400 minutes + pda personal bundle x 3 + insurnace x 3 (and this doesn't even include GPS or tether or black berry which my sprint plan offers)

Verizon 318.92!
3 lines , 3 touch pro 1s 1400 + 5000 minutes x 3 + unlimited data x 3 + insurance x 3

WTF

Sprint 170.92
palm pre x 3 ( since it has to have an everything data plan) x 3 insurance 1500 minutes unlimited data, texting, gps, blackberry, any mobile.

Hmmmm sprint price really is competitive.

This one is debatable as well. ATT has the Iphone possibly until this year. It has been a burden to them and their network (yes it makes them money), but they have even admitted their network won't be up to par with the iPhone user demand for the next few years.

Apple is even dissatisfied with their agreement. Because of ATT they can't have certain apps on the phone that use too much bandwidth.... they still don't have MMS. Tethering? Not legally.

The iPhone advantage is going to evaporate and go to the CDMA carriers.

I just switched to Sprint on Tuesday and I have to say that I could not be more pleased by this announcement. Now if they could drop the price of the TP2 I would be happy as a pig in ****.

I came from VZW and I have to say if I were to build a comparable plan it would be something like this:

Line 1 -- Touch Pro 2 (master account) and line 2 (Samsung Saga) -- $89.99
Line 3 -- LG Env2 -- $9.99
Unlimited text for all lines -- $30
Unlimited Data for Lines 1 and 2 -- $60 ($30 unlimited for each line)
Data package for Line 3 -- $20
Vcast (comparable to sprint tv?) -- $10
GPS service for all lines -- $30 ($9.99 per line)

All of this has to be broken out separately as VZW generally does not lump phone service types together so there is a different data plan for smartphones and dumbphones.

The total for VZW $250 per month which is $100 MORE than sprint which means I am saving $1,200 a year.

Sprint does not differentiate between smartphone and dumbphone when it comes to it's data packages soe there is no nickel and diming.

Also, the biggest reason I left VZW is they do not support their version of family location service on ANY of the smartphones they sell.

Cheaper and MORE services available.

My research could be off but that would be what I was paying.
