Re: 2.2 froyo
I'm probably gonna get flamed by someone for saying this but, if I'm wrong I'm sure someone will correct me. First off, we don't have any current version of android completely running on the tp2 yet. That includes 1.5-2.1. So before someone comes in and smashes you I think I'm right in telling you that Froyo is not on the top of anyones list right now. Getting android running 100% right now is on the top of the list.
I'm sure someone will make it available sometime in the near future but as of right now, its a no-go. |

Re: 2.2 froyo
+1, however, I think that 2.2 is probably a bit more "on the horizon" than some may think. They've already mentioned a 4-5 TIMES speed increase, and with all the new features it provides, I wouldn't be surprised if many devs focus more on getting 2.2 working rather than working out current issues.
Just my 2 cents.

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.7 (WindowsMobile; PPC; Opera Mobi/35267; U; en; Presto/2.1.1))
The other thing to keep in mind is that an OS has layers. The underlying driver layer is what needs most of the work. This work will correlate well to newer versions of the OS since many changes are at the software/application layer. Also, moving to newer versions might actually be easier for developers too since the driver modeling and code is getting more standardized, simplified, and better documented. |

Re: 2.2 froyo
So i took a break from beating my brains against a wall with the rhodium hw3d issues to see what i can do with this froyo nonsense.
I got a system.sqsh ready and from what i can tell i think the kernel is the bottle neck for us. Froyo i think runs on the 2.6.32 kernel and we are using 2.6.27. The Hero devs got it to run on 2.6.29 so that means we might be able to if we can port the current kernel to .29. It's not rocket science but it does take time. The actual system doesnt boot. It crashes on the Vold service over and over. Also the Accelerometer service is all whacked out. I tried disabling as many services as possible but still no luck.
