PLEASE, FOR THE SAKE OF MY SANITY. READ THE FAQ FIRST FOR QUESTIONS!
F.A.Q.

This in NOT an emulator, nor is it a full ROM! Haret.exe closes down Windows, and boots Linux off of your Storage Card to launch Android. To boot back to WinMo all you need to do is reset your handset!

This thread is more specifically for the Rhodium, as this is the handset that I own, and can troubleshoot and test. So if you have specific questions about a different handset, please find your corresponding thread in post #2, however, this build will support the following devices: Diamond, Raphael, Kovsky, Topaz, Rhodium, & Blackstone by using the corresponding startup.txt found in any of the .rar files.

This package does work for both GSM and CDMA, however, the CDMA troubleshooting thread is at the following link: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/tp2-androi...20-2010-a.html

NOT WORKING IN THIS BUILD:
  • BT
  • Camera
  • Headphones
  • Speakerphone (no mic)
  • Battery Meter (about 75% fixed now)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Change Log:
  • NEW January 23 NEW FRX04 Android 2.2.1 build added to downloads page!
  • 11/22 FRX03 build added to downloads page! Go HERE for the full change log!!
  • 11/01 FRX02 build added to downloads page! Check out the updates for a more detailed change log!
  • 10/04 Kernel updates! In call mic fix and battery updates!! The new meter should be MUCH closer to actual battery now!! Either use update on the Start Application or head over to the project tracking web page!
  • 9/28 Sovereignty's Startup Utility V1.1 goes live! Fixed BLAZN Gmail app, re-added 3d Gallery. Fixed Reference not having Google Talk.
  • 9/26[/B][/COLOR] NEW KERNEL FIXES NOW WITH WORKING HARDWARE 3D!!!
  • 9/16 System build, FRX01 Final. The product of testing through RC1 and RC2. Lots of fixes, too many to list. Come here for full updates.
  • 8/30 Package with a few updates. This one fixes the garbage noise of the speaker being "on" even when no sounds are being played. Also updated the rootfs file for a few fixes. (Add new gralloc for WVGA devices).
  • 8/26 THE BIG ONE YOU HAVE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR...... SOUND IS WORKING!!! (New Zimage/Modules kernel fixes for sound!)
  • 8/18 Froyo system images added! New rootfs updates = MUCH MORE SPEED!! Lots of BLAZN theme fixes added, Full change log is HERE: http://sites.google.com/site/androidport/updates

CHANGELOG HISTORY CAN BE FOUND HERE!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Notes:
Read this before you start!

THIS THREAD IS NOT FOR YOU TO COME HERE AND TELL US WHICH OF YOUR FEATURES IS THE MOST WANTED. WE ALL WANT THIS OS COMPLETELY WORKING. PLEASE, BE PATIENT LIKE THE REST OF US.

If you think you need to post a question in this thread: READ THROUGH POST#2, AND USE THE SEARCH TOOL FIRST!!!! Most questions have already been answered in this thread. I don't mind answering GOOD questions, but I really hate people asking the same questions over and over, ESPECIALLY when the answer is only a few pages before your post. Other Devices:

This package will work on other MSM devices however, you may have some stability and functionality issues. If you are having issues with another device, other than the RHODIUM, check the dedicated forum. Most users on this specific thread only own a Rhodium, so we cannot test/troubleshoot other handsets!!

Looks very cool bud. We might have to see if there is a way we can get things combined somehow. So that we have just 1 build/thread to deal with. Maybe get that script modified to select GSM or CDMA?

It is in the works! Hopefully Ill have a CDMA test for you guys soon. :) I did test the app on a Rhod400 tonight and everything worked, so Ill add it to the list of things we need to do to this app!

Thanks for the feedback!

Re: [CAB] GSM Project Android Port and Startup Utility [03/25/10] Auto Update & App M

  • NEW Mar 25 New zimage/modules: This re-enables the so called "turbo mode". Some benchmarking figures indicate better memory performance. (topa/rhod: Drive AXI bus @160Mhz when A11 is @528Mhz)
  • NEW Mar 25 New additions to the Startup Utility! Progress bar & Rootfs.img Auto-Update should also have fixed some compatibility issues, and crashes during the update!

Re: [CAB] GSM Project Android Port and Startup Utility [03/31/10] NOW SUPPORTS CDMA

  • NEW Mar 31 New Startup Utility Updates: Force CDMA checkbox enables the use of MrPippys combined CDMA & GSM Rootfs! (For .rar CDMA users add "htc_hw.force_cdma=1" to your startup.txt!)
  • NEW Mar 31 New Thanks to MrPippy's work the CDMA and GSM rootfs have now been combined!!
  • NEW Mar 31 New system.sqsh from babijoee! Adds Gallery, Calculator, and Desktop Clock. Updates to some apps as well!

So, with a single build now does that mean it'll be easier for all to work together to get power management and sound working?

I keep seeing conflicting information on the new builds... does charging work or not? On the direct build websites, I can't find anything that says it doesn't work, but then people say that "Power Management" is screwy, which I agree with. I haven't gotten charging to work at all - it just sits and says "Fully Charged" whenever it's plugged in.

working fine on sprint tp2. I really really like the updater and the cab install. So what is the difference between this set of builds versus the other on this forum? Does this have the latest xandroid builds. Thanks!

Nothing special, other than the startup utility and updater. It all started from xdandroid from babijoee, and any time he does an update to the system.sqsh, i update to his as well. I just built this as my own package in a .cab for ease of use. Thanks for the feedback bud. :)

Quick question - on the other CDMA Android builds, you could not have a SIM card installed. Is that the same case here? I want oto be able to run either CDMA (Sprint) or GSM (T-Mobile), for when I do not have a Sprint tower close enough. THanks.

Well, it looks like it starts, but it says I have no data service when I try to log into my Google account. So, I will have to troubleshoot that. I did not have my SIM card installed when I did the initial install, so maybe I just need to reinstall, as I never got any type of prompt to choose between GSM and CDMA when I set this up.

CDMA is a check box in the startup utility, on the very first page when you start the app.... if you use the .rar, you need to add the cmdline manually, as stated in the directions on my first post.

Looks like I am missing something here. I used the CAB and followed these instructions:

Instructions for .cab:
If you are having trouble booting after installing this over an old version of android, make sure that you delete data.img file from your SD card!
  1. Copy to SD card
  2. Install: This .cab has to be installed directly to your SD card or it will not work!
  3. Soft Reset your handset
  4. Run Haret from start menu and enjoy!
So, what "startup utility" are you talking about? I just followed these instructions and ran haret after a soft reset. I never saw a screen asking me to select CDMA or GSM. The first screen that loads is the screen calibration. Thanks for the help, btw...

He might have the instructions mixed up for you. His utility that he worked up for you guys is under a different name. Unless he renamed it. Use File Explorer and look for another executable like "MJGDroidUtil" for instance, not sure if he kept that name or not.

Yeah, I just caught that when I uninstalled and reinstalled everything. It is called "MJGDroidUtil" and it does let me select keyboard for my TP2 (Sprint) and Force CDMA. Thanks very much for the help.

Reefer....can you tell me a little more about the update app. Its seems there is always an update when I run it. Is it pulling down the latest from the glemsome autobuild site or a site you run and update yourself? Thanks.

It will always download the most recent zimage/roofts/initrd respectively. Right now there is no auto-detect to see if the last file you downloaded is outdated. For now, we have no plans to do it otherwise, but thats because we have not even finished the stuff we want in there originally. lol. Its basically when you know there is a new update you need to download. Saves the trouble of all the middle steps like browsing to the web page/download/file explore/unzip/rename/copy/paste. :)

Quick question, is power management working? From the description in the OP I am assuming it does but I wanted to double check. Thanks!

Ive personally gotten about 20 hours standby with minimal use and push mail on, and they are working on the battery meter. Make sure you turn your GPS off, and close any apps using task killer for the most battery use possible. :) Thats actually why the LED stays on, so you can monitor sleep. If its green, your handset is sleeping, and if its amber, its not.

Re: [CAB] GSM Project Android Port and Startup Utility [03/31/10] NOW SUPPORTS CDMA

Found what I'd consider a bug in the launcher app. When you're on the Auto-Update screen and updating the files, if you switch to another program, or the screen goes black due to the timeout, you can't get back to the auto-update screen when you go back to the program and you'll be stuck on the homescreen with the device keymap selection and you can't get to the update screen to see the progress.

New Rootfs: Verizon Wireless Keymapping

Hey guys, now for the nice part about the update utility. This is the part where I don't have to make completely new builds just for 1 small update. :P

Commits from today for the Rootfs:

commit 67bf175
Author: Brendan Shanks
Date: Sun Apr 4 23:26:14 2010 -0700

Add RHOD500 keymap (thanks to 1900 and Hoochster)
Any Rhodium 500 users (Verizon Wireless) that want your correct TP2 keymapping, just update your rootfs file, and select your keyboard during the startup utility! Good work guys! :)

Enjoy!

Hmmm - still not able to get data working on this, which prevents me from being able to sign into gmail. The phone says "no service", which is odd, because I made sure I checked the Force CDMA in the startup utility. I do have a T-Mobile SIM card installed right now, so that might be part of the problem. Data worked fine with the CDMA only version before I found this one. There is a lot to like about the dual mode and the auto update feature is great.

So, any other ideas? Thanks.

I am not quite sure what could be the problem, but I have had a couple users tell me that a change in their startup.txt caused the issue. This bottom selection is exactly pulled from the CDMA Rhodium thread. There may be some code left in my GSM startup.txt that is conflicting.

Try changing your startup.txt to exactly this:

Quote:

set RAMSIZE 0x6000000
set RAMADDR 0x10000000

set mtype 2292
set KERNEL zImage
set initrd initrd.gz

#pwf dm.txt 0x8e0000 0x20000

set cmdline "msmvkeyb_toggle=off gsensor_axis=2,1,3 lcd.density=240 htc_hw.force_cdma=1 pm.sleep_mode=1 physkeyboard=rhod400"

boot
Or, maybe I dont know why it would be different for you, but check your APN settings.

Thanks, but no joy. I edited the startup.txt file - no go. I am also on Sprint and I do not see APN settings for Sprint. I suppose since I have a T-Mobile SIM card in the phone that I can try those settings. BTW, I saw on another thread where people on that thread are seeing the exact thing I am here - their phones will not register on Sprints network for some reason. I will keep trying to fix this - thanks again for the help.

UPDATE: One other thing I noticed, was that the phone keeps coming up in Airplane Mode, and I cannot clear it - it never is able to find the network.

2ND UPDATE: Okay, I got it up and running, but I had to remove the SIM card to do it. I shut it down after verifying that it was working and reinstalled the SIM card. It is no longer working. I will check the settings again, but I think there are still some issues with having a SIM card installed and trying to run CDMA.

If you are on T-Mobile, you are GSM, so use a GSM version of Android. This thread is supposed to be merge of both into one, so you can try it. Since it runs on your SD card, it should not cause a problem.
