Yes I saw those, I was hoping for something a bit more feasible.

Ah, whatever, I give up. :violent2:

What do you want? A bit more feasible? Oy ve, I'm not sure I can keep helping out around here, this is getting out of hand.

3.5mm. I don't have the extUSB with me, I'll try it when I get home...

Sorry, I think I need a couple day break from the forums. All this keymap stuff is driving me crazy. I have a list of excuses for my behavior, but I won't list them :p

No hard feelings (I hope), I'm going to go punish my liver.

Re: [CAB] GSM&CDMA Project Android Port and Startup Utility [10/04] BATT UPDATES!

Though I would like to add another voice to using the top button as a Home key, I don't mind figuring out how to hack it in myself (though hopefully it's fairly straight forward or explained somewhere, because if I have to learn programming to do it, this might as well be a Linux forum 15 years ago).

My main concern is, Android is heralded as the perfect multitasking mobile OS, and the recent programs menu was one of the primary tools for app switching. End key as home, though useful, is neutered, and incapable of performing the full range of functionality Home key offered. We can argue about "keeping power as power", but you can't really play semantics and technicalities when we're already misusing the Start key as the Menu key (a functionality completely absent in WinMo). If we're willing to reassign one based on *translating* functionality, it's no less reasonable to reassign another.

But all that aside, IS there another way to access recent programs? Is there any app, hack, switch, or anything anywhere within or without Android that brings that menu up when you don't have a Home key? IS there another way to pull up screen previews in LauncherPro?

I 100% agree, but for whatever reason, it seems that the devs minds are made up on this, and feedback is distinctly unwelcomed.

There is no way to fix this without either giving up all new kernel progress on getting the hardware working or becoming a programmer and forking your own branch of rootfs development.

The cons are we gave up multitasking via Recent Apps and we gave up the ability to use any program that uses the home key like Launcher Pro and we made it harder for new users who now need to go into Spare Parts to change settings before using a fresh install.

The only pro is that it's easier for users that aren't using XDAndroid fulltime to remember which button is which, and I don't see why that's a user segment XDAndroid should be focusing on for the long-term.

Do you have a dead button? No. Sleep function? It's the power button. Of course it's lame not to update, you're the one whining about something not working how you think it should work. This is how the devs feel it should work. Don't like it, keep your phone back. I'm just giving you an option to your stubbornness, take it or leave it.[/QUOTE]

+1 arrghhh this is the perfect response for a whiner lol

I searched the thread but it did'nt pull any results on this issue: When I update thru the startup app, I get an error when I try to unzip the update.zip file in the temp folder... therefore I can't update via phone.

Anyone experiencing this? Is there a workaround?

Hey, take it easy, it's already been settled.

I think there's a bit of a misunderstanding here, though. We're not, or at least I'm not, demanding anything. Merely inquiring or suggesting. If that's not something the developers want to hear just say the word and I'll be quiet!

My apologies I didn't read back to see it was a misunderstanding. It just seemed like you were demanding but I understand that you weren't. My apologies again not trying to step on anyone's feet.

+1 on a Home Button solution, alternative, app, method, etc. Has anyone found a way to activate the App History function? Or is this something that has to be hard coded to a physical button?

go to sd card programfiles/xdandroidstartup/temp/UPDATE now delete file (update.zip)and try updating from the startup app again... hope this helps;-)

Thanks for the reply. Is there somewhere that defines what the system.ext2, kernel, rootfs, and initrd all do?

You should start by skimming the pinned FAQ on this board, which addresses this, as well as also where you can go to see updates for each part.

Yeah I did that but it looks like you skimmed my post and blindly replied assuming the unfallible FAQ had the answer. Before I posted I did skim the FAQ, project tracking, links to android on other phones, downloads, archive, wiki links, twitter, facebook, ect (I don't know how I missed it). Maybe you should read the FAQ and updates section thoroughly instead of skimming through them so you can provide a useful reply.

From the parts of the FAQ that I originally contributed (you might even say I updated the section of the FAQ thoroughly a few months ago instead of skimming so I could provide a useful reply for everyone to reference):

Quote:

initrd.gz is a tiny disk image used to boot a Linux kernel, before the real file system can be mounted. The build of this used for XDAndroid is stable, and updates are rare.
zimage and modules together are the Linux kernel, and form the core operating system. This is where hardware drivers are included.
rootfs.img contains additional files needed to run the basic Linux system.
system.ex2 contains Android's extra parts that run on top of Linux.
Also, you're kinda a jerk and I wonder why anyone is thanking your post where you're being a jerk. What have you contributed lately?

You have the newest files... do you ? Which are they?

At any rate, the #1 reason is modules not matching with the zImage - these must be updated together, and go together. Also, you do NOT rename the modules file, only the zImage & rootfs do you rename.

demonlordoftheround makes a good point as well. I forget a lot of people don't realize how utterly insecure WEP is, and are still using it.

lol I usually ignore stuff like that... it's not what I come here for. I come here to see what new greatness the contributors have been able to squeeze out for my phone on a near-daily basis and to support them however I can. If you have a question that I can answer, I try to give you my best answer and I give courtesy and respect to those that do the same. I completely agree with you and most humblely apologize to both you and the community for my rude useless posts. Although I know it is no excuse; I had a mean wine in me and I was taking out my frustrations on you when I should have been looking at myself for being annoyed with my time consuming flashing addiction. I have been coming to this site entirely too much and will be taking some time off. I'm sorry for another useless post. Thank you and everyone else who has moved this project forward or assisted in the FAQ. I will be deleting my rude posts. Thanks everyone for the well deserved roasting. Again sorry to all.
