If I use Google Maps, the phone then never goes into sleep mode (the LED stays red) and it drains my battery like crazy. Force quitting also doesn't help. Basically, if I choose to open Google Maps, I am resigned to restarting my phone afterwards, or else the battery will drain... ideas?
GPS knocks out sleep. So either use the power control widget & disable GPS, or go in Settings -> Loc & Sec -> Uncheck "Use GPS Sats". Sleep should now be fine.

Hrm, that seems opposite of most. However, it seems almost every time I receive a call either the radio cycles, the phone reboots, or it turns on the speakerphone and reboots within Android.

I've said it before - I'll probably say it again - I avoid calls like the plague in Android for the time being. There's some hope with a new ril wrapper, but so far no joy on that.

I've had similar experience with the android shell restarting in the middle of phone calls. I rarely have the no sound issue, but I regularly get it switching to speakerphone all by itself and then restarting the shell. What's odd is I can keep talking while Android restarts, but right before it the shell is fully loaded it seems to drop the call.

Luckily, I don't get a whole lot of calls, but since I help run our enterprise servers, I need to have the phone working flawlessly to use Android all of the time. I do plenty of testing, but at the end of the night, I usually flash back to wince for the next day

Another issue I've noticed is that the phone often locks up when you try to change the volume level with the buttons on the side of the phone. When I try, it locks up for about 10 seconds and then resets android (but the phone seems to work again after that).

anybody else noticed this?

Y'know I've seen several people say this, and there's even a bug on the bugzilla related to it... but I have NEVER been able to recreate it. Are you changing the volume in a specific app, or just on the home screen (adjusting ring vol)?

usually on the home screen, and it tends to lock up more often if i click up or down more rapidly... it doesn't lock up if i click it once, wait for the volume indicator to appear and then disappear, and then click it again.

i've seen it lock up on all the indicators... volume, in-call, notification...

Strange... I also may be making assumptions about your build, are you completely up-to-date? There was a new system image a few days ago, an a new kernel today.
