Working fine now and phone goes to sleep (green led) Will update to next bundle release when it's finished. Thanks for all the help.

Read the first post, I tell you how to update the kernel. If you had done that, the startup.txt line would be unnecessary.

Having issues with priv/pub key auth... bleh. Maybe I'll just mirror on dropbox.

Re: [BUILD] **Complete Froyo Bundle!!** FRX04 - "Stable"

I have to say this FRX05 build is the best one yet:

1. No need to add sprint settings- 3G out of the box
2. Camera works
3. Wifi works after editing files (could be wrapped into next build)
4. Restores of all data work.
5. Out of the box Quadrant benchmarks 523/524
6. I am still running after initial boot with no reboot 2 hours later
7. Have not tried the USB headset.

My complements :)

Glad to hear it works! For #3, do you mean for WEP? We're looking at resolving that, but unfortunately we can't just "add" the file that works for you - as it's particular to your AP/setup ;).

FRX05 bundle is on stine's server, waiting for a valid link before I update the first post...

Thanks. Hey arrrghhh, just out of curiosity, do you let Android manage the apps automatically (in terms of RAM resources) or do you use a task killer to free up RAM? I heard we should let Android manage it automatically and that task killers can actually make the system unstable if they're killing important tasks.

FRX05 is running great! Loving it. There were a lot of changes to system.ext2. Very stable, FRX05 + Wistilt2's kernel = da bomb! I couldn't believe how good SlingPlayer Mobile is running on it.

Google does recommend this - the reason being is if you kill an app before it's done syncing data, you could experience some data loss. That's the main problem with killing apps - you should only kill an app if it's causing issues, not just every app because you 'feel' there's not enough RAM - linux is pretty efficient at handling RAM, so you really shouldn't need to kill apps.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I'll add everything to the "ignore" list except for my own apps that I manually launch and want to shut down. There are a tons of Google apps/services that launch automatically no matter how many times you shut them down. For example, I don't even enable GPS or Wifi Location and the darn Google Maps keeps launching... very annoying.

Side note: XDandroid youtube channel is putting the little SlingPlayer Mobile video I uploaded. :thumbleft:

I've been running FRX04. Can I just swap out system.ext2 to for FRX05, or do I need to start from scratch to obtain FRX05?

I just replaced the old system.ext2 file with the new one. And everything works fine for me.

Yes, my notorious ancient settings actually worked fine. But that configuration file includes settings that once they are edited the WiFi works fine. I am not sure if this build works out of the box for WPA.

While I was about to go to bed last night i tried overclocking and the 700000 setting would not boot. My phone has been able to push the limits in the past, so this is probably inherent in the build. I then tried to split the difference between the default 614400 and it did boot, but there was no big speed gain on Quadrant. In any case, it runs pretty fast.

I would say that this build is actually usable for me with the camera as it does not seem to lock up. I have to check if the USB headphones work. I usually use BT, but I use USB in my car to the speakers. I'll check this out on the way home from work tonight.

Nice job everyone.

PS I am going to be keeping this phone for a while because of its quadband capabilities (no obvious replacements at Sprint), so this is going to be a very practical development since I will be able to run Android but then switch over to WinMo 6.5 and use a purchased SIM card when I travel overseas.

Re: [BUILD] **Complete Froyo Bundle!!** FRX05 - "Stable" - Camera!

For the last couple of updates (actually starting from the very first bundle) I haven't been able to get any sound until the new FRX05 bundle (3/3/11). Silent was the only option for everything no matter what I did or how many times I rebooted or formatted. Now, everything is working as expected based on what I've read should be working.

The only problem I've experienced so far is that once an app is installed via the Marketplace, it doesn't show up in the "Apps". I'm about to reboot and I'm guessing things will show up then.

The full Angry Birds shows up in the Marketplace now too whereas it didn't use to. Cool.

Re: [BUILD] **Complete Froyo Bundle!!** FRX05 - "Stable" - Camera!

I did some more testing on OC this AM and it looks to me like there is no advantage seen to higher settings. I have gone back to some of the old posts on this by ndno http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/tp2-androi...ml#post2060599.

These were some of the options mentioned:

[speed]
======
540672: 528 MHz (stock speed for Rhodium)
716800: 700 MHz
786432: 768 MHz

I'm currently using 614MHz (acpuclock.oc_freq_khz=614400)

I know the math on this is confusing as is the code snippet he references. What is the theory again behind these settings?

Thanks

Note that "overclocking to a higher speed" doesn't mean android (linux) will put your tp2 at that speed all the time; it actually throttles from the low 100 mhz to the OC speed you set it to. It's like your laptop; if it doesn't have a lot of "work" to do, it will operate at the lower speed and eventually kicks into full gear at the top speed when it has a lot more processing to do. One time I ran quadrant while OCed to 700 and got a score in the low 400s; well, it turns out it was operating at 224mhz (you can see it in the system directory /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq). When I reran the test, I got a score in the mid 600s and the clock changed to 700mhz. So if you OC, it doesn't mean it's always fast. It's a good thing because the system is trying to save battery for you.

Thanks. I was trying to understand how this works. Looks like my Core i7 in a mini-size. I looked at the code at it did not seem to cover the higher clock rates.

Touch Pro 2s are getting between .5% and 2% per hour drain, when sleeping properly. Battery life depends on usage though, so if you're playing Angry Birds for 7 hours, it will likely die.

Looks like I may not be alone.

I need to learn how to collect the dump so that I can share.

I haven't experience any SOD yet. This build is the most stable one so far. I download apps, surfed, used camera, etc. basically everything on my phone. No SOD, reboot after I format my card with HP tool.

Just ran 12 hours straight and still have 40% battery left. I surfed a little, texted, checked emails, ran apps, including iGo on the 45 minute drive home. Very impressed with the stability and battery life.

Angry Birds Lite Beta - Android app on AppBrain

Re: [BUILD] **Complete Froyo Bundle!!** FRX05 - "Stable" - Camera!

I ran this for about 11 hours yesterday. Corporate push email (Exchange), google email and a couple of POP3 emails checking fairly frequently. Talked on the phone to the wife all the way home for 20 minutes. Took a couple of calls at work and played (yes I played) Angry Birds for probably 3 hours...wife has an iPod Touch so I would say the comparison on speed is 50-65%, slow but playable. When I shut it off at 10:20 pm and rebooted into WM I was at 8% battery.

I don't trust an overnight charge in android yet...sorry, it's a corporate phone and if I nuke it I gotta buy it.

Otherwise, this is by FAR the single most stable and usable build I've used to date. No crashes, no hangs, I didn't even get any "This app is failing to respond...you want I should kill it for you?"

ndno 03-05-2011 04:47 PM

Working awesome now that I lowered my clock to 672mhz. Loving this distro; I haven't used winmo for a week! Only time I'm in winmo is to recover from a restart or to do some mods to my android install.

My friend gave me a version of slideit keyboard and it's awesome! It's like swype but I think it's better and faster and more stable than the swype that's floating around. Slideit is not free though.

Great. What is the value you are putting in for 672Mhz? I had to back down from 700Mhz or 716800 on the settings.

I still do not quite understand how the settings and frequency relate. It is not the same and does not look like octal to me.

I agree we are close enuf for a working package here.

I looked at the kernel code and I don't think it matters what you put in; it takes your OC value and change it to the closest value that is a multiple of 19200. For mine, 672000 is a perfect multiple of 19200.

This doesn't happen to me at all, are you on a GSM phone? I've seen some reports of this, and I'm thinking it's a bug unique to GSM devices... Might need some logs, not even sure which ones. dmesg and logcat are always a good place to start tho ;).

Also, is it FRX05 or the newer kernel...? To test, go back to kernel 1253 on FRX05 (cam won't work, I know) and see if you have the same service issue.

I got that error too - network location doesn't work on CDMA (appears you are on Sprint) so that is moot.

You need to have a solid GPS lock that carries over to the USAA app. So as soon as you get a GPS lock in maps, go over to the USAA app. This worked for me. USAA is freakin awesome btw :p

672000 also works for me.

I did some testing this PM listening to podcasts and music and my SubSonic music streamer works fine, but I had to reboot before the regular Music app would run.

I also noted happily that my old ProClip for mounting the TP2 in the car, which takes the USB output, also allows the 3.5mm jack in the ProClip to work. Thus I can run output from the TP2 to my Aux input (old tape deck).

I think I am just going to run this thing and see what happens. I need to test if MediaMonkey synchs my podcasts. I doubt that will work since I think it needs WMDC to do that.

Great Build. Trying out Android again after a year away. its a little fustrating as WM6.5/Sense is 2nd nature to me.
Quick question regarding Overclocking. Do I have to download an OC cab, or just input the CPUclock HZ in the STARTUP.TXT?
Thanks again.

Just drop that line into the startup.txt. If you need info on it, it is in the FAQ link that's in the first post. I OC all the time but not on first boot. I know some people do, so it's up to you.

Jump on ebay and grab a usb adapter, headphones work great through those, they're like 2-3 bucks apiece, sometimes with shipping, they're cheap as heck. No reason to not have music with android thanks to these incredible developers. Oh, and they're apk's on this side... no more cabs, lol
