Re: [BUILD] **Complete Froyo Bundle!!** FRX05 - "Stable" - Camera!

Can someone point me to logfiles, etc, where I can look for any sort of filesystem corruption or other instability? I'm going to do a clean install of FRX05, but I'd like to know what happened, because it worked great for at least a few days. Just now I pulled down the notification area, hit clear, and when it was 3/4 of the way closed it froze and did a reset. That was the 6th or 7th reset just today.

Unfortunately I'm hooked on Android, and can't tolerate WM on my TP2. I'm holding out with this TP2 until at least summer, because we'll be seeing dual-core 4th gen phones soon, and that's what I'm waiting for.

/data/system/dropbox are where historical logs are located.

Sounds like a bad SD card, but I can't be sure. Have you tried a different SD?

I'm still waiting for a phone with a good kbd, seems it's never going to happen... sigh.

I noticed the camera didnt look great also. I played with the settings but with all on default (auto) it was the better choice.

Just had a weird bug. My messaging stock app was acting really odd. Messages were not updating once read and i could not open a thread or delete it where I sent a MMS (which worked btw). It kept crashing and I'm not sure why.

Clearing the data from managing applications didn't do anything, so I went in through droid explorer and deleted all the data and database files related to MMS that I could find and it seems to have fixed the problem.

So i combed the thread, and cant seem to find a fix to my problem. I cannot open "Settings" with this build, which means I cannot install non-android market apps or add widgets. The error says com.android.settings stopped unexpectedly.

I'm running this build on Sprint TP2 Rhod400.

Anyone else have this problem or know a fix? Thanks

Sounds like a bad flash. That is not a known problem to my knowledge. I would recommend reflashing and if problems persist, do a clean format of the SD card using the HP format tool (google it if you don't have it) and try again. Though, I would recommend doing the clean format either way. Be sure to not do quick format.

Hope this helps.

Edit: I'm playing with the term flash. First do what arrghhh suggested by deleting the data.img and trying again. If all else fails, do what I wrote above.

It's just that WM6 is designed for people who use their phones for work and business (more like a blackberry) while Android is more for regular folks checking their Gmail casually.

Hey gents, Downloaded Bundle copied start up from folder pasted in root. Downloaded the TS-Calibration file renamed it copied it into root. Booted phone no service. Realized I booted phone up first without taking out SIM Card first. Then removed Sim Card still no service. TP2 on Verizon network. Did I miss a step? Install looks fast smooth finally android support. Now I just need some service and I'm home free. Thanks,

Moe

Sorry grabbed the wrong start up file. I needed the RHOD500 going to try it again right now. Wish me luck!

Just a quick status on my android usage: I switched back to overclocking to 710mhz this morning and it's running great. What I did was backup everything on my SD card, format it and then copied everything back, including my existing data.img. Also another thing I did was not using any taskiller apps; I just let android do its own house cleaning. So far so good. I was getting SODs randomly recently and thought maybe it was due to using my SD card for a long time without formatting... I hope this is the case. I haven't been back to winmo for the last 2 weeks. :) I pretty much been using all kinds of apps.

Sent from my FRX05-ized TP2

UPDATE: Still running fine after 24 hours. Tough to not use a taskiller; if free memory falls below 20mb, it's become very sluggish. A lot of apps that require background data just eat up memory; the more apps of this type I install, the more memory they eat up even if I don't launch them. I eventually had to kill some of them to make my TP2 more usable.

Hrm. I guess try a newer kernel, don't think that'll have any effect on it.

So you copy the bundle, and on the first boot you get that error when trying settings?

Might be good to note, on a first boot I let the system sit and collect itself... there's a lot going on at first boot, especially right at the beginning. Some people reboot and don't even deal with the "first boot slowness", but I find if you let it sit for 5-10mins, it's just fine. Usually less even, if you just let the phone sit and go into deep sleep by itself, no problems (for me, at least ;)).

SoD's are almost certainly RIL related. I've been told that if you disable data, they disappear. Some have been able to consistently recreate the SoD condition, basically by being in a bad service area.

I'm usually in the same places (good service areas) and I haven't had a true SoD in months. Went on vaca this last week, and I actually had one, driving thru a canyon. So there seems to be some truth to this - I didn't try disabling data. If you have a spot that seems to cause a lot of SoD's, try that out. Disabling data is no fun, but if you know there's a place the phone likes to die in try it out!

I'm seriously hoping to talk to WisTilt2 soon. He said his radio guy would have a RIL to test with sometime this week...

Important question.

Data.img

When booting android for the first time. Can the data.img be created, in another location in the SD card?.

It can, but you have to modify init in rootfs. It's quite simple to change and "compile". Just change this if statement: init - eclair-rootfs in XDANDROID Eclair - Gitorious

Indeed. I'd imagine this method you could also place the data.img in a dedicated partition, instead of being loop mounted.

Code:

modprobe ipv6
Either run that in the terminal, or add it to your froyo.user.conf in the 'CustomCommands' section.

Please search before you post. However, you reminded me this should probably be in the FAQ.

I tried to OC to 710MHz these two days, after 728MHz didn't work out for me. But I do encounter very sluggish moments frequently, I don't remember if that's also happening if I don't OC at all. But many times, the phone just seems dead.

Darn, spoke too soon. Just got the solid green SOD... my Wifi was on but 3G was off. Btw, I'm running 3/1 Wistilt2's kernel... no log :(

I used to not get SODs with the earlier Wistilt's kernels (2/24, 2/28 ); maybe an occasional restart to WinMo but that's about it. I'm going to try the official 1276 and see if it makes a difference.

Solid green? Wifi could've disabled itself.

Try disabling data (like uncheck the box) and see if you get SoD's. This issue is kernel agnostic.

True, whenever my TP2 goes to sleep, wifi is disabled (I can tell because when I wake it up, I see the wifi icon on the task bar reappearing and obtaining IP address). I do notice that when wifi is disabled 3G data automatically turns on if data comm is needed. I guess the one way to test this issue, like you say, is to disable 3G data... tough to live without 3G data for a long extended period. :( The thing is that I don't get SOD frequently; maybe once every 8 hours.

I bit the bullet a little while ago and shut down data completely and only using wifi. It is rough but I can live with it for now (I'll be working at home for a few days so I've got wifi ) Can't wait for Wistilts radio guy to give us something to test, and hopefully he adds the ability to grab logs again although if all goes well there won't be any to give!!

I'm out and about too much so I need my 3G data :( The SOD doesn't happen often on mine, maybe twice in a 24 hour period. At first I thought it was due to me OCing to 700mhz but it also happened at lower speeds. I'm gonna just stick with this for now; I'll wait for arrrghhh and wistilt2 to come out with some possible RIL fix. Once in a while is not too bad, I haven't gone back to WinMo for quite some time. Darn, my friend didn't bring me his cracked-screen phone last time I meet him; I'll love to try out what natemcnutty and ACL got cooking in the NAND thread.

Edit: just up'ed this sucker to 748mhz :thumbleft: I just bought another OEM battery for $7 on amazon as a spare so when I run out I'll just switch. I'm also trying to hack the build.prop under /system to see if I can get better 3G data speed by changing the values to ro.ril.hsxpa andro.ril.gprsclass; seems to work but I need to verify using a before and after test scenario; I'll let you guys know.

I played with all sorts of these settings, saw no dramatic change in speed tests. They were all over the place, but I took a ton and they were literally all over the board. Always took 10+ tests with each setting change.

You're right; I can't really tell for sure; I thought it was better but then I went back to the default values and got the same results. I wonder if tiad8 did these tweaks when he advertised "faster data" in his builds.

  1. Go to Set custom tab
  2. Enter 310120 (for Sprint) as gsm.sim.operator.numeric; for Verizon, use 310012
  3. Click on Set to this values
  4. On main window, click on Save current settings

That's it, next time you run Market, paid apps will show up. I haven't tried to download a paid one yet but they do show up.

Enjoy. :)

Just an update; I confirmed this works. The only thing is that the MarketEnabler is "donateware" and won't auto run (set fakeOnBoot) when you boot in Android the next time, you have to manually launch it and enter the value again. If you got $3 to spare, you can pay the author and it will always auto run on boot.

Anyways, I bought a couple apps (Advanced Task Manager $.99) and (SetCPU for Root Users $1.99) and I just use Google Checkout to pay for the apps.

Had no issues at all for the entire day since I shut down data and used WIFI since yesterday afternoon. Today I switched on data to run around and do some errands and had a SOD upon getting home and going downstairs where my signal fluctuates between little and none. No airave still, haven't had it on in a bit to test this. And every time I have a SOD, when I try to reboot, it wipes my startup.txt to 0B. I've learned though and keep a copy of it stored away...

That's an interesting side effect... perhaps it wasn't always the startup utility blasting those out, heh.

WisTilt2 is running into some issues with the RIL, mostly because he doesn't have a CDMA device and I can't seem to pass commands directly to the modem for more than 30s before it locks up...

Yeah that actually happens somewhat frequently but not just lately, I just always chalked it up to the fact that things are just unstable since it's a port, heck on a couple of Tiads builds I kept having the entire kernel wiped out, zimage and modules. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and Wistilt to get the RIL figured out.

Keep getting stuck when first booting. Had this problem with FRX04 and gave up. Trying again with FRX05 but still no luck. Formated, pulled the startup from rhod 400 for my sprint tp2, used the calibration file. But still a no go. Heres my startup. Tried loading files to root, and placing them in their own folder to no avail.

Says it failed to mount the sd card. Then starts to hang on rpcrouter:15 blocked for more then 120 seconds.

Yeah the HP formatting tool or sd formatter are both recommended, just as long as you don't use the crap that came on the phone itself.

Hey guys, brand new user here.

I followed the instructions on the first page and have Android running. The weird thing is, though, that the power button on the top of the phone isn't acting like a home button. It seems to be doing the same thing it does in Windows... it turns the screen off on one press and on on another press. It seems to be acting exactly like the end button on the front of the phone.

I tried searching this site and Google, couldn't find an answer...

It seems to be doing the same thing it does in Windows... it turns the screen off on one press and on on another press. It seems to be acting exactly like the end button on the front of the phone.

I tried searching this site and Google, couldn't find an answer...

Yea... I guess I should add this to the FAQ as well. Which I assume you read? :p.

At any rate, the power button operates... like a power button.

So does end, unless you remap it. In spare parts, you can set the "End Key Behavior" to go to home instead of be power.

FRX05 doesn't have spare parts out of the box, but the app is available from the Market.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I read the FAQ and didn't see this particular issue.

I did, however, just search again and found some one else on page 34 of this very thread with the same issue...

Just added info on this to the FAQ, with some additional information (like F22's modded rootfs). Feel free to re-read! ;).
