I believe your problem is that you don't have a calibration file, and you're using one of the recent kernels that are busted for calibrating the screen. There's a prompt for you to be touching some squares to calibrate your screen is what I think is going on, but that prompt and the squares are covered by text, which is a bug in the 1253 kernel, so then it just sits there apparently not doing anything. You can solve this in one of three ways:

1) Go to arrrghhh's first post, and download the calibration file that he has attached, and stick it in your Android folder.
2) Start by booting with either 1258 or one of the kernels numbered 1234 or less I believe it was. Then you should be able to see the calibration squares you're supposed to be tapping.
3) Calibrate blind. 5 squares are going to come out, first in the top right, and then top left, then bottom left, and then bottom right, and then center I believe. They're about 1 cm from the corners of the screen. Just tap even though you can't see them, and your boot should continue. This approach is probably a bad idea.

Or you can use the attached one arrrghhh included in the 1st post (download it and take out the .txt extension). I also attached mine if you want to use it; just download it, unzip and copy to your SD card (where your zImage, modules, startup.txt reside).

Wow... Thanks guys. I'm a little disappointed in myself that I overlooked that, but that is a very, very good point...

So, does the ts-calibration file solve it for you? Heh. Glad to have someone jump in and check my work :p.

It doesn't seem like this will fix it, as usually people get a "Waiting for SD card" error or something similar when the problem is the SD... but here it is:
Code:

msmsdcc_1bit msmsdcc_fmax=14000000
^^ just paste it anywhere within the quotes after the cmdline=. Again, just make sure there are spaces between each item within the quotes...

Mine looks like this
Quote:

set ramsize 0x10000000
set ramaddr 0x10000000
set mtype 2292
set KERNEL zImage
set initrd initrd.gz
set cmdline "lcd.density=240 msmvkeyb_toggle=off gsensor_axis=2,1,3 force_cdma=1 pm.sleep_mode=1 physkeyboard=rhod400 msmsdcc_1bit msmsdcc_fmax=14000000"
boot
I see set cmdline "lcd. " et cetera doesn't have an equal symbol attaching it is that okay?

Also note the bold italic part is that the way you're talking about doing it?

I'm trying to boot with ts-caliberation.txt, so we'll see what happens... Also yes my SIM Card is out MoFo was a pain in the arse to get out haha!

You could have used your stylus to push it out-- makes it much easier. See below:

Just want to say thanks to arrrghhh for posting this build. I first tried Android on my TP2 a few weeks ago with Tiad's build. Was fun to use but I was having way too many reboots to be bale to use my phone for work and stuff.

Decided to try this build and it has been amazing for me so far. Been using it for a few days and I have only had 1 reboot. I have put the phone to a lot of use to test the stability. Installed around 20 apps. Even did text to speech voice navigation today for a 45 minute drive I had today even though I knew where I was going. Worked great.

I don't know the cause of the 1 reboot I did have. I had set my phone down to charge in my car. Looked down a few minutes later and noticed the phone was in WindowsMobile.

I used the calibration posted and installed to root. I did not change any kernels because to be honest, I didn't really know how to do it. Now I am glad I didn't change as this build has been great for me.

Oh yeah one minor issue I have had is my phone wouldn't go to sleep after using GPS. So I just turned off GPS in the location settings and then turn it back on when I need it.

If you use Windows, Droid Explorer makes it real easy.

Glad you like it! GPS killing sleep is a known issue unfortunately... If you feel like it, post your log from the reboot.

There are several options:
  1. you can install ADB on your PC and grab the latest SYSTEM_LAST_KMSG*.txt.gz in /data/system/dropbox folder to your PC; since you're relatively new, I wouldn't recommend this; it's sorta complicated.
  2. you can launch the terminal emulator (Dev Tools app) and issue this command to copy SYSTEM_LAST_KMSG*.txt.gz from /data/system/dropbox to /sdcard, which is the root of the SD card which you can access via your PC after booting back to WinMo:

    Quote:

    su
    cp /data/system/dropbox/SYSTEM_LAST_KMSG*.txt.gz /sdcard
  3. you can install the attached RootExplorer app, launch it, go to /data/system/dropbox and copy the latest SYSTEM_LAST_KMSG*.txt.gz to /sdcard, which is the root of the SD card which you can access via your PC after booting back to WinMo.
  4. you can install the standalone Droid Explorer (de - Release: Droid Explorer 0.8.7.2 Beta) on your PC and access the /data/system/dropbox folder with you phone (while it's in Android) hooked up via USB. Same thing here: grab the latest SYSTEM_LAST_KMSG*.txt.gz. Actually this will install ADB needed in option 1. :)

Once you get a hold of the latest SYSTEM_LAST_KMSG*.txt.gz log, just attach it here for arrrghhh and his team to look at. NOTE: by "latest", I mean "after the crash" you boot back into Android and grab the most recent dated SYSTEM_LAST_KMSG*.txt.gz file.

Would someone please explain where we are with battery savings? I recall seeing it discussed in the 100 or so pages I've read over the past couple days, but can't remember the name of it. Starts with an "M" I think. Is it a thing or a person? I have no idea! And how should I stop the battery bleeding after using GPS? I've been going through a full charge in a couple hours (heavy use). That's crazy, right?

Well, it kinda depends on your device. If your TP2 is Sprint-branded, it's a RHOD400. In which case, you can simply update to 1258 and get the added battery life benefits.

Basically we were never collapsing the panel in the kernel, we would just take the brightness down to 0 - so it would appear off, when in fact it's still drawing power.

Another huge issue with battery life comes down to something very simple - the phone sleeping or not! If you don't get that green LED that stays (fairly) solid, the phone isn't sleeping. Just having GPS enabled in Location & Security (not even if it's being used, just enabled) will kill sleep. Disable GPS, and the phone should sleep. The other most popular culprit for failed sleep is a rogue application that doesn't want to respect the system asking it to sleep. Kinda a crap shoot on this one, but SystemPanel Lite can help with determining which app is doing the dirty deed.

I also have a test kernel thread, but the main panel collapse/wake code has been committed already, so you don't have to run a test kernel if you don't want to. The more reports on that the merrier, but I understand why not everyone wants to test :p.

Wow...thanks for the complete answer, bro! :headbang:
Yes, I'm on Sprint, but don't know how to update to 1258? Do I just paste a 1258 system.ext2 onto my sd card?

Okay, I got ya on the green led. I've noticed certain apps (like the music player) would prevent the green led from coming on. SystemPanel Lite is it then. And I'll be disabling GPS whenever not needed. I think that's been killing me a ton! Thanks again for the answers. :occasion5:

1258. Directions on how to replace the kernel are in the first post, along with the link to the kernel autobuild service so you can update manually at any time - sometimes kernels come out quite quickly, and it's hard to keep up with the bundles. I also try to put a stable base in these bundles, and if people want to update they're more than welcomed to.

force_cdma= what in your startup. If you're using it for GSM, needs to =0.

I knew the FAQ was missing something big, thanks :p.

Can you post your startup.txt file...? I'm not sure what else would trip up GSM, other than that command.

I'm assuming the network works fine in WinMo?

I switched back to BLAZN again and I get the green led and the screen goes blank then if I turn the screen on I get

r3:0000000 r4:0000000

Is that a good sign of any success, this is the only build/kernel/distro that I get the green led... Should I leave the screen off, well blank actually ya can see the backlight is still on?

I'm waiting for Tiad's FROYO 2.2.1 BLAZN IMPROVED 3d PERFORMANCE to test it out and see if I get that far with it...

I'm not sure how to answer your question, as from your post you're not running this bundle... BLAZN is very outdated, and I certainly don't support other builds in this thread. This thread is for my Froyo bundle...

Everything looks fine in this startup.txt. Does the phone boot into airplane mode or what? Network works fine in WinMo? Do you have the SIM seated in the slot correctly?

I have a RHOD400 as well, but use it as a CDMA device. AFAIK you can use them as GSM in Android - someone correct me if I'm wrong here!

No, none of the other startup.txt files would be appropriate.

Try deleting your data.img... I'll ask around and see what else I could be missing. I'm pretty sure we have folks using the 400 on GSM networks.

I'm baffled. I'm really not sure what could be different with that build that would make the network work. To my knowledge, the only setting that matters for network access is the force_cdma setting in your startup.txt. Evidently there's something else, but I don't know what - you're the only one experiencing the issue, as I know there's others with RHOD400's using them on GSM networks.

I've had this happen before, the app drawer doesn't show everything in it. Usually only happens to me after the first boot of making a data.img, next boots are usually fine...

You can always create a shortcut for the icon, I've only see the app disappear from the app drawer... it's never denied you from creating a shortcut to it on one of your homescreens.

I'm not sure what the problem is... what else is different other than the system.ext2 file in that cab you installed? Maybe a newer kernel broke it? I seriously doubt it, but I guess it's possible.

Try this version: AngryBirds_1.3.5_patched.apk
Works great and very smooth compared to the official one on the market.

Like I said, I'm not sure exactly. You're just going to have to try different kernels, rootfs.img's, hopefully you'll get lucky and it'll just work.

Honestly, the force_cdma command is the only one (to my knowledge...) that would effect the phone working on CDMA or GSM. I don't know of any other command or combination of files that could potentially trip up GSM (or CDMA) service...

Installed last night and WOW!, what a nice complete package. I saved and used my old calibration file and it booted pretty quick. I let it sit for about 2-3 min after it loaded and it has been working fine, gps, internet, everything. I did notice that i can assign a ringtone or notification. There is only silent in the dropdown menu. I see all the default tones in the folders via file explorer from within wm. Any ideas? thanks.

I think this is in the FAQ, but someone has been modifying the crap out of that thing lately, and there was a bunch of stuff that I put in that is now gone...

So, I won't be too mean :p.

There's been several theories. The one that seems to work the most consistently is backup everything on the SD and format it using the HP Tool. Put everything back on the SD, try again.

I've also heard there's a mediascanner you can force rerun. Gingerbread will hopefully fix this, as the ringtones will be in the system image instead of on the SD (media folder).

This setup with the new 1260 kernel at first boot runs like a real android phone...

This is what you should be using... everything thing else is inferior imo.
