I did read your post, thanks (otherwise I would have been completely lost!).

As I mentioned, I tried setting this up with using just the USB Drivers from your post (I've attached a picture of them on my PC so you can see the names/dates/versions of them), then tried installing Droid Explorer. When those didn't work, I formatted my SD Card, installed a fresh version of FRX04, and connected it via USB cable to my laptop as soon as it settled after the boot. Windows Vista detects the phone, and the phone shows USB debugging connected and USB connected on the status bar. Windows then asks for a driver for the XDA, but when I point it to the USB Drivers folder, it reports that it can't locate a driver there. The same thing happens with the CDC ACM & CDC ACM Data. Any ideas? ](*,)

Hmmmm... I ignored the pop up window querying for the driver (I had the same CDC ACM message like you did). Instead I manually went to the Device Manager and use the instructions I decribed above to install it.

Did you try arrrghhh's pdanet install trick?

You can overclock, but you have to do it by hand if you don't use the startup utility. I do not support the startup utility, but I guess I should link to it...

Did you move the startup.txt file to where you run haret.exe from?

Step 3...

Yea I'm waiting on it to boot, but it appears to be doing the samething the cab did... I'm just going to wait till I see the banner screen that says "XDANDROID" flashing/animating... I think the last time I left my phone sitting on that screen too long and thats why I couldnt do anything or get past that screen.

If it works then how does it need to be to work with Gen.Y Boot, rooted to that folder or all rooted directly to the card with no folder.

No...FAT32 works great for every build I've ever done. Are you using the HP tool to format the card? It's recommended by most people, although I've never had a problem with doing it under Windows. Another thing to keep in mind is that the class of the SD card seems to make some difference, although I can't recall what category (IV?) it should be for best performance. Have you been able to run any of the other builds successfully without getting I/O errors?

I have ran one other build a while ago with this same SD card. I formatted it in windows.

Yes all the files are directly on my root including the startup.txt file. Maybe something got corrupted when I was downloading the file? I am going to try and re-download it and reformat again

The other suggestions are good, but another hiccup might be a clocks bug... Have you tried the newest 1258 kernel? I guess I'm not entirely clear on what you mean by I/O errors... Can you be more specific?

Still waiting on it to boot! haha

Do you see any errors in the terminal...? I know some get stuck on the "waiting for SD" - in which case, try kernel 1258 as well.

Ok, 20 mins is way too long. You should see the XDAndroid boot logo with the flying droids within 5 minutes. No boot should take longer than 10.

So try to update to the 1258 kernel. If that doesn't work, do a full format using the HP Tool. FAT32.

Do you have space on the SD card? You need at least 256mb free to create the data.img... I guess try the 1258 kernel first, then format the card, and if both of those still result in a failed boot we'll have to dig a little deeper.

i had the same issue. it was complaining some MDP_BUSY or whatever and also something that ended with "4 out of 4 times" or something. went back to tiads version and it works. both of them after a clean format of the 8gb sd card

Yea I've got 2 and a half or 3 Gb's left on a 16Gb microSD? Is the 1258 posted in the main thread or included in the folder?

It is a buffer I/O error on dev mmcblk0. I get a bunch of those and then it stops loading with a message that says failed to mount the sd card, cannot continue. /bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off.

This is even after I re downloaded and re formatted my sd card.

I guess I should redo this build with 1258 to avoid SD card issues.

The autobuild link is in the first post, I posted the link to 1258, but here it is again...

Kernel 1258.

I'm betting that'll resolve your issues.

That error can be ignored, and is not the root cause. Are you using the same kernel in tiad's version? I'm not going to fight for users, but if you want to use this build I am here to help.

I would encourage you to try 1258 as well.

I'm not sure if I want to redo the bundle yet, as it seems there'll be another new kernel soon as well - I don't want to redo the bundle every day ;).

Quick dumb question, total XDAndroid newb here, how do I update with that image, do I unzip it or just drag "htc-msm-linux-20110214_200559-package.tar.bz2" file directly into the same root directory... Or what exactly...

Once I figure that out then I'm back off to bios bootland again, with crossed fingers. LoL

Take the new zImage/modules-xxxxx.tar.gz and replace the old ones, same folder - where you run haret.exe from. Make sure the ‘zImage’ is named just that. Do not rename the modules file, do not extract it - should be in .tar.gz format.

Still getting the rdm busy message... Grrrr! I want this to work.

I removed the old files then copied the two new ones over and made sure to make the zImage one just that name.

It's odd that it worked one time and got to the boot screen and now I can't get it to do that at all again, I think it was sitting there for 45mins or so. LoL

Hrm. You never see the flying Androids? Did you place all the files at the root of your SD card or are they in a folder?

Have you tried formatting with the HP tool? You copied a startup.txt file and put it at the root of the SD as well... right?

Unfortunately I'm grabbing at straws at this point, as this build works for most... If you can't try a different SD, you may have to get the magnifying glass out to read some of those tiny lines of text ;).

Ok, if you want it in the FRX04 folder, you have to add that rel_path= statement to your startup.txt. Otherwise everything must be at the root of the SD... Again in the first post ;).

Okay oops

When editing it where would I put "rel_path=et cetera" in the list, or any particular order, I'm assuming I can't just put it anywhere in the startup.txt list...

I'm thinking it would be done like
Quote:

set ramsize 0x10000000
set ramaddr 0x10000000
set mtype 2292
set KERNEL zImage
set initrd initrd.gz
set cmdline "lcd.density=240 msmvkeyb_toggle=off gsensor_axis=2,1,3 force_cdma=1 pm.sleep_mode=1 physkeyboard=rhod400"
rel_path=et cetera
boot
Correct or does it matter?

Yea, I'm struggling with how to make this more clear.

Basically it goes within the quotes on the cmdline section. It doesn't matter where on the cmdline section, as long as it's between the quotes and there's a space between each item...

Code:

set ramsize 0x10000000
set ramaddr 0x10000000
set mtype 2292
set KERNEL zImage
set initrd initrd.gz
set cmdline "lcd.density=240 msmvkeyb_toggle=off gsensor_axis=2,1,3 force_cdma=1 pm.sleep_mode=1 physkeyboard=rhod400 rel_path=FRX04"
boot

^^ like that. :D

I'm open to ideas on how to explain this better... I've always struggled with how to explain exactly where it goes, and many have made the same mistake you did...

Re: [BUILD] **Complete Froyo Bundle!!** FRX04 - "Stable"

Errr still nothing it gets so far and then comes to a complete halt with the mdr busy error...

I'm gunna try moving everything directly onto the root of the card and if that doesn't work I'm gunna give up till I get my 32Gb.

I believe this card FAT32, I just don't wanna move 14Gb's worth of stuff over to the pc and then back over to the card again.

Would it being plugged in and charging cause any possible problems usb or ac?

I don't know but I think rel_path=blahblah needs to be PART of the set cmdline line before the "physkeyboard=rhod400" string... or does it not matter (someone once told me it mattered).

Actually, Sprint TP2s came with SIM cards pre-installed right out of the box. I don't know if Verizon & other TP2s did. Anyhow, I just wedged a piece of paper between the SIM Card and my phone's contacts & re-inserted the SIM. I lose too much chit. :evil4:

I'd like to post a thread to provide instructions and links to the required files...crediting you & arrrghhh, of course. Do I have your permission to do so?

Sure go ahead... wait for arrrghhh's response.

Man I hope this works!!!

Hope it does too. You have giant cards too, 16gb and 32gb? What class are they? Believe it or not, class6+ is not recommended for the project... You can use them, but some have reported odd issues. Not sure if any have failed boots...

You're still on 1258 as well right? We can try adding another command to the startup.txt that fixes issues with SD cards, but with 1258 you shouldn't need it. Worse comes to worse, we'll add it.

Huh. Mine didn't, but it was a refurb... what is the SIM used for...? Certainly not to connect to Sprint's network...

Sure, I've always wanted to do an adb how-to but never got around to it. I was going to turn that thread I created into one in fact :p.

As far as the other two devices you can ignore them. Just tell Windows to not prompt you about that hardware anymore. One is for USB mass storage, which doesn't work, and the other is... I believe for USB tethering which doesn't work either without using a 3rd party app like "EasyTether". So you can safely ignore the other two unknown pieces of hardware ;).

Doesn't matter where it goes, assuming that it's within the quotes and there's a space between each item. Order is meaningless as well...

It's a class 2, and bring on the new cmdlines... No luck yet so far... Grrrr! LMAO

I don't wanna be a bother, but I suppose it's helping everyone out and making progress and evolution with the project.

Hrm, and the same command just keeps repeating in the terminal...? I wish I could see what's going on during the boot process :p.

It doesn't seem like this will fix it, as usually people get a "Waiting for SD card" error or something similar when the problem is the SD... but here it is:
Code:

msmsdcc_1bit msmsdcc_fmax=14000000
^^ just paste it anywhere within the quotes after the cmdline=. Again, just make sure there are spaces between each item within the quotes...

Well I'll add this discovery for the newbs

In order for Gen.Y Boot (Dual Boot App) to work..
YOU Must have the contents of whatever android folder all rooted directly onto your card. So no main folder and then all the others inside that folder, everything inside the main folder can't be in a folder like frx04 or andboot (Whatever name of kernel/distro)\ >then xdadroid files >, it all has to be directly on/in the main base location of your card.

Not true, you can change a registry entry within WinMo and you can direct Gen.Y to any directory... :p.

Feel free to peruse the Gen.Y XDA Thread.

Yea it looks like it is the same error, then every once in awhile it'll change the n go back to the same old error...

Wish there was a way I could record this or take a screen capture, to post what it's doing.

Also yea I'm still using the updated kernel.

I'm... pretty baffled. I need to know what error the phone is spitting out.

Did you change anything about the build, or just extract it to the SD card and move the startup.txt file? Do you have adb setup? Have you ever been able to boot before?

Just to be sure, you DID remove your SIM Card, right? That error message you posted was similar to the one I got when my SIM Card was in.

I believe your problem is that you don't have a calibration file, and you're using one of the recent kernels that are busted for calibrating the screen. There's a prompt for you to be touching some squares to calibrate your screen is what I think is going on, but that prompt and the squares are covered by text, which is a bug in the 1253 kernel, so then it just sits there apparently not doing anything. You can solve this in one of three ways:

1) Go to arrrghhh's first post, and download the calibration file that he has attached, and stick it in your Android folder.
2) Start by booting with either 1258 or one of the kernels numbered 1234 or less I believe it was. Then you should be able to see the calibration squares you're supposed to be tapping.
3) Calibrate blind. 5 squares are going to come out, first in the top right, and then top left, then bottom left, and then bottom right, and then center I believe. They're about 1 cm from the corners of the screen. Just tap even though you can't see them, and your boot should continue. This approach is probably a bad idea.
