Arrrghhh, how do the texts come through with GV? just as a regular text? Never tried that, haven't used GV all that often.

Same, I don't really save text messages either - if there's something important in them like an address or phone number, I just update my contacts list ;).

As for GV, yes the texts come in like regular text messages. Just be careful, as the Android app likes to disable notification via text message - so then you won't get any messages when you boot back to WinMo. Pissed off the gf real good doing that a few times...

GV in Android is freakin awesome, just no real solution for WinMo. It's actually downright obnoxious in WinMo, as when you receive text messages they come from a completely different number - you can then text and call back that number, and to the user on the far end it appears as if you're texting/calling from your GV number. Which is a pretty elegant solution, but more for dumbphones. I'd prefer to have an application, but c'est la vie - this platform seems dead to all developers.

Yeah, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a winmo fix to it. That's one reason I really didn't use it too often, but I'll look into it more now as I'm using android more and more. Do you sync the same way ndno said earlier? My question on that is I use a XP machine at home along with a laptop w/ Vista (I know, I know Vista sucks, I need Vista or XP to remote into work, can't do it yet with Win7...), does that create any problems syncing, and if so, should I just use one PC then?

Yea, I was just too lazy to write a how-to :p. But that's the exact method I was going to walk you thru.

Best part is it's OS agnostic - the sync assumes it's a corporate exchange server basically (treats it the same) so you don't need to sync with your PC any longer.

One catch tho, is I would definitely backup your contacts with PIM Backup before setting up the sync account. There's potential that it'll blast our your contacts - as I recall it didn't do anything, but just to be sure. If all your contacts are already in your Google account then there's no worries.

I'll give it a shot either later tonight or tomorrow morning (spending the evening with the wife...gotta keep her happy ya know.... I've got my contacts backed up already to google along with msmyphone, but I think I have PIM backup cab still laying around somewhere so I'll back them up just for good measure :thumbleft:. I may even attempt to get adb set up tomorrow too!

Easiest way to set up ADB is to download and install Droid Explorer (de - Release: Droid Explorer 0.8.7.2 Beta it comes with the "tools" folder which contains ADB; I guess DriodExplorer uses the ADB API to access the Android file system. I learned the hard way and installed the whole Android SDK, which took forever.

DroidExplorer should come with the necessary USB driver to access your TP2 Android phone. If Windows can't install (find) the driver for your TP2 Android phone, you can try the attached USB driver I downloaded from the Android SDK site.

I'm hearing crickets all over the forums tonight on Valentine's day. Luckily for me, the fiancee has to work very late; we already spent Vday on Saturday  What makes it better is that she's not the typical gal; she doesn't want gift, flowers, candies, etc. :)

Fish, if you use google (gmail) under WinMo, you can sync your gmail, contacts, calendar using Microsoft Direct Push; it works great! I use it and have the schedule set to "As items arrive" which instantly delivers mail/calender events between Google's server and my TP2; there's no polling involving (hence push mail). It works great because when I use Android, all the data are synced exactly and I don't miss anything. The only exception is that texts (sms) aren't synced so when you send/receive in WinMo (Android) you won't see them in the other OS.

Here's how to setup Google under WinMo:
  1. Go to Start->Outlook->launch ActiveSync (it may be under another folder, I use VINdows so it's under Outlook)
  2. Menu->Add Server Source…
  3. Enter your email address, uncheck automatic configure (I can't remember the exact option but you'll see something like it), then click ‘Next’.
  4. Enter your user name (full gmail address), password and domain as ‘google’ (this may be grayed out so you don't have to enter it), then click ‘Next’.
  5. Enter ‘m.google.com’ at Edit Server Settings, then click ‘Next’.
  6. Select Contacts, Calendar and E-mail (if you want). Edit the sync setting if needed.
  7. Finally, click ‘Finish’. If everything goes well, Windows Mobile Phone ActiveSync will start to sync between Windows Mobile Phone contacts, calendar & mail and Google Account

How is everyone "syncing" their texts between WinMo and Android?

ndno and others,

I already use an Exchange email account as well as gmail, so the Activesync account in already in use. Do you know of any other ways to sync your contacts to google mail and maintain the synchronization? I use gmail on my laptop and desktop as well as my cell phone, and currently use imap. I have different contact lists for Exchange (work) and gmail (personal) and would like to keep them that way if possible.

I still can't connect TP2 to pc!! I'm using XP as it is on my old laptop that i'm connecting and not got Win7 etc.
The device manager is showing problems with CDC ACM and CDC ACM DATA. I have downloaded various USB drivers, but none seem to help. If anyone knows what files I need for this, I would be very grateful.

Thanks
Rob

P.S. Debugging is on and USB is found on the TP2, but just will not connect.

Fresh install; Speaker phone died after 20 seconds; when I used regular phone, call dropped after about 2 minutes, I'm half a mile from the tower. Not ready for prime time I guess. Keep up the work.

Did you reformat your card and let the data.img build completely, the first boot seems to take some time, but if you let it do it's thing this is one of the most stable builds you're gonna find at this time.

Arrrghhh and Ndno, final OT post... tried setting up AS for google to sync contacts, etc but get error stating the server you are attempting to synchronize with is either not an exchange server or is running incompatible software. Please correct your server address in exchange set up or contact your exchange admin.

Any thoughts?

Did you check "Calendar"? Try just with Contacts and Email. If you've never used your Calendar in Google, it causes issues with syncing it.

I'll give that a shot. I'm currently playing around with the Gingerbread port so I'll jump back to winmo in a few to play around with that. If I can take a break for a bit and the wife leaves me alone I'm gonna try adb although I may just do that later at night when I can pick your brain. We'll see... let me try to get AS set up first...lol

Like I said man, doing this via gtalk or the like is my preference... otherwise it's painful!

I love that you thank all my posts, but I don't need to pad my postcount at all :p.

I thank your posts and ndno's posts and anyone else who helps because I can't donate to everyone I would like to, at least they know I appreciate them taking the time to assist. As far as doing it by gtalk or IRC, that's what I meant about doing it later. I did attempt to remove calendar and I can't get it to sync, but I'm playing around with it in between my real job, so I'll play around with it later and see what I'm doing wrong, it's kinda tough having my mind doing two totally oppostite things at the moment, lol.

Edit: Wow, put the phone down for a few and lo and behold, she started syncing, lol. Thanks much guys!

Glad it's working for you! You can always "force" a sync by launching ActiveSync and tap on "Sync" on the bottom left (you shouldn't have to do this as ActiveSync is "supposed" to do the sync automatically if it detects a change but I just do so to make sure). I usually do this before I boot to Android so that if I had added a contact, added a calendar event, etc, recently it'll update my google account so that when I'm in Android, it will sync those updates.

Also I forgot to mention that the first time you set up ActiveSync, it may not "automatically" sync immediately (not sure why, maybe's it's waiting for a change event on your google account before it syncs); I usually force the sync and it works then. This is what you may have experienced when you first set it up.

Heh, no. I know I didn't specifically list that, but if you check manekineko's thread you'll see it's listed as 'not working'.

For the most part, all builds use the same kernels. The only different kernels that are being tossed around are either a) older or b) for testing only (cam for example).

When I say kernels, I mean hardware support basically. If the hardware isn't supported in the main GIT kernels, than no build will support it (basically - cam example above being the rare exception).

So you are able to sync calendar stuff too? Arrrghhh mentioned that sometimes causes problems... maybe I'll see if I can get it to sync now that it's done it successfully once.

You need Gallery3d. It was originally pulled as it had issues... not sure what its status is, haven't really addressed it in a while.

I can sync calendar stuff, but my buddy who freshly created a GMail account was not able to - and it was spitting out all sorts of odd errors until he unchecked it.

The problem was, I believe, that he never visited his calendar (new account) so GMail's exchange wasn't able to connect to it. That's my best guess - if you have problems with the calendar visit it within the GMail webUI and see if you can sync with it afterwards.

Here are some HTC drivers for your PC HTC / Default SDK Drivers
Your phone should show USB Connected & USB debugging connected - at the top of your screen as soon as you connect via USB. My PC shows under Remove Media & Eject Media (Eject XDA)
Running Win 7, Rhodium 400. I think those were the drivers I used, really not sure as I tried several things and didn't document anything. Hope this helps. I know I have files that I need to transfer on my PC plus I don't like having to go thru google to sync my contacts & calendar appointments.

If I've Helped You, Please Click on Thank You.

OK...I've done the following:
- Downloaded the HTD/Default SDK Drivers, and extracted them to a folder.
- Confirmed that USB debugging is checked on my phone (RHOD 500)
- Plugged the USB cable into the phone
- Windows (Vista) detects the phone, and attempts to load drivers
- Using "Locate and install driver software", I navigated to the folder where I had extracted the SDK Drivers
- The XDA, CDC Abstract Control Model (ACM), and CDC ACM Data all report that they are unable to find the driver software.

Am I missing something?

Try this - I was having issues with adb on my XP machine, and that solved it for me.

Keep in mind, adb is a fairly advanced tool - it's not easy to install or use, just makes debugging a heckuva lot easier.

I had the same issue too. Here's what I did.
  1. Hook up your phone to Windows
  2. Launch Device Manager
  3. You should see "Android Phone" listed on the device tree; click on it and you should see "Android ADB Interface"
  4. Right click on it and choose "Update driver..."
  5. Choose "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)"
  6. Choose "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install."
  7. Select "Android Phone" as hardware type.
  8. Click on "Have Disk..." and point it to your USB driver directory
  9. The one I'm using for the Model is "Android Composite ADB Interface Version: 4.0.0.0 [12/6/2010]"

I originally had mine working on XP and then it stopped working and then I used the above procedure to re-install the driver. Go back several posts; I attached the usb_driver.zip that I used.

Hmmm...I tried using the usb_driver.zip package you uploaded, as well as installing Droid Explorer (from the link in your post). Neither solved the problem. I'm going to try formatting the SD card, reinstall FRX04, and put the drivers on immediately (before I load any of my usual apps). We'll see if that solves the problem. Fortunately, Android is really easy to re-load!

Awesome, thanks dude!

In other news, I've been trying to flesh out a formal FAQ. That will be the 'official' FAQ for XDAndroid, and we want it to encompass all devices. It is very much a work-in-progress, but it is in wiki format - just be careful, no support requests on this page! Be respectful, or it will be protected. Thanks!!

I tried the cab and installed both NET Core and Net Frameworks 3.7, but the bootup screen stales and doesn't do anything right away... I installed everything to (Except for Net Core and Net Frameworks 3.7) the storage card and see it all there in andboot... I have the T7380 with the sim card taken out. I left it sitting there for almost an hour and cameback to a flashing XDANDROID screen with the animated logo.. Nothing would wake from that screen and I had to reset my device I'm using BLAZN...

Do I need to install Net Core and Net Frameworks 3.7 to the storage card, also am I selecting the right model Rhod400 for Sprint Touch Pro2 World Phone (T7380) plus Gen Y Boot says Android Missing every time I boot and it loads the screen.
_

This new zip file do I need to extract it all onto my storage card no folder or extract it all to a folder on the storage card called XDANDROID or whatever?

Can someone please help!

Please read the first post... It walks you thru what to do and how to configure it.

I removed the stuff about the cab, as I didn't attach a cab...

Step #2...

Okay I'll read it, so I guess I should uninstall this other cab and startuputility. Just a simple clearification, copy the whole folder to root? Right

Sometimes rooting confuses me (I guess my dsylexia haha!) but some people mean copying the contents of whats inside a folder to the root and sometimes some people mean copying the whole folder.

Okay I'll read it, so I guess I should uninstall this other cab and startuputility. Just a simple clearification, copy the whole folder to root? Right

Well you can copy the whole folder - but you'll have to adjust the rel_path statement if Android isn't at the root of the SD. I addressed this in the first post as well... I tried to be thorough, but sometimes I don't always word things well. If you feel something is missing, or should be changed to make more sense let me know. Thanks!

Forgot to answer your question about the cab - I would uninstall it, but assuming your SD card is formatted clean you shouldn't *need* to. Up to you really.

I actually remember trying this one last night and all I got when I clicked harLET.exe was a huge popup with a run thing/cmd I guess that said default.txt and that was it. I deleted all the start up's but rhodium and nothing... Which is what lead me to going back to the cab'ed version and trying it again.

Can I overclock this version and do I need a startuputility? I saw no common F.A.Q.'s

We have an FAQ... Granted, it is still a work in progress, but it's getting there.

You can overclock, but you have to do it by hand if you don't use the startup utility. I do not support the startup utility, but I guess I should link to it...

Did you move the startup.txt file to where you run haret.exe from?

Step 3...

If you want to change the location of the build, put a rel_path= statement in the cmdline section of the startup.txt. Mine is located two folders deep on the SD, so my rel_path=Androids/TP2Ref)

I keep getting tons of I/O errors after running haret. I have everything on the root of my SD card and even tried formatting the sd card to FAT32. Should I be formatting it to something else?

I did read your post, thanks (otherwise I would have been completely lost!).

As I mentioned, I tried setting this up with using just the USB Drivers from your post (I've attached a picture of them on my PC so you can see the names/dates/versions of them), then tried installing Droid Explorer. When those didn't work, I formatted my SD Card, installed a fresh version of FRX04, and connected it via USB cable to my laptop as soon as it settled after the boot. Windows Vista detects the phone, and the phone shows USB debugging connected and USB connected on the status bar. Windows then asks for a driver for the XDA, but when I point it to the USB Drivers folder, it reports that it can't locate a driver there. The same thing happens with the CDC ACM & CDC ACM Data. Any ideas? ](*,)

No...FAT32 works great for every build I've ever done. Are you using the HP tool to format the card? It's recommended by most people, although I've never had a problem with doing it under Windows. Another thing to keep in mind is that the class of the SD card seems to make some difference, although I can't recall what category (IV?) it should be for best performance. Have you been able to run any of the other builds successfully without getting I/O errors?

Do you have every file at the root, i.e. startup.txt, haret, modules, zimage, system.ext2, etc? Or are they still in a folder that at root? Wherever haret is, you need to have your startup.txt file and depending on where that is, you may need to add a line to your startup.txt file.
