Re: Dangers of downgrading after installing GPS radio (and a little on signing)

I have successfully flashed from 2.31 bootloader to .40 and then again to the factory (signed) rom, but the phone is bricked, stuck on the HTC screen with the LOCKED bootloader, only able to install the signed rom (which does not work). I believe the radio could not be overwritten because it says R None when I power up.

Can anybody help??

I wish I had seen this thread sooner...

What ROM are you trying to load?
Bell, Sprint, etc?

Re: Dangers of downgrading after installing GPS radio (and a little on signing)

I have gone thru everything in that unbricking thread and tried the steps several times.
The problem is that my phone is locked and I can only install one ROM (the signed stock rom, and that doesn't boot) and I cannot unlock it with booting first. . .

Is there a way to unlock from the boot loader screen??

Re: Dangers of downgrading after installing GPS radio (and a little on signing)

I am so glad I read this post.. I was about to downgrade my 3.37.15 radio to the stock Sprint EXE rom. Not for warranty, but because I heard the 3.35 roms were causing problems - and that even in upgrading to 3.37.xx, some of the "changes" may not have been overwritten. Just like your example with the GPS not being overwritten by the 1.xx radios. I guess I will just have to hope that all the 3.35 stuff was overwritten until we find some way to do a clean radio install that wipes all previous versions.

Re: Dangers of downgrading after installing GPS radio (and a little on signing)

I'm on the Telecom NZ network ...

what I want to do is flash with the Altell rom to get GPS and RevA.. and then flash the ripped telecom rom you have in your Roms section.. as its a ripped and not signed will I have any problems (as it shouldn't contain radios)? Will I still have GPS and RevA if I flash back the orignal(ripped) rom?

Re: Dangers of downgrading after installing GPS radio (and a little on signing)

Well I went from OMJ's Bell ROM with sprint 3.35.17 GPS radio back to stock today, this is how I did it.
Phone had:
ROM: OMJ's Bell OEM v2 ROM
Radio: Sprint 3.35.17 GPS Radio
2.31 unlocker

I first loaded the .40 unlocker, then once that was all done, I booted into the bootloader and on my PC ran the official bell software update (signed RUU)
after that everything was working fine, radio show's up as 1.59.10a
I found that the only way to get the Bell RUU to run was with the phone loaded in bootloader mode.
HTH for anyone trying to do this, the key is to overwrite the 2.31 unlocker with the 0.40 unlocker I think.

Re: Dangers of downgrading after installing GPS radio (and a little on signing)

Can someone make a step-by-step doc? I need to do this and there's no way in heck I'm going to do anything until I'm sure exactly what needs to be done.
Assume the user is using the coke spl and the latest rom from sprint

well the problem is that you can brick your device when attempting this downgrading procedure. and even if someone posted step by step instructions, there would prolly be bricks resulting from those instructions. It is recommended that you always have insurance, esp for WinMO devices, and that if your carrier doesn't offer a Stock GPS ROM then once you go GPS, dont go back to Non-GPS. That being said, i will offer the following advise:

1) Return to Stock is possible, but not recommended unless you are returning for warranty/exchange. The Radio will appear to have been downgraded, but is actually located in a different location in the Memory, so when the 1.X Radio is wrote it does not fully overwrite the 3.X Radio, which can cause some issues in the future.

2) Search and Read some more, this topic has been covered
