Re: Rooting a brand new phone

Thanks everyone....I used the Unrevoked on my Mac....so everything was pretty simple but I'm the type that likes to know what I just did. What is the PC36IMG that I keep reading about? Do I need to have this on my SD Card even though I did the Unrevoked? Also before I install a custom rom I have read that you are supposed to wipe certain caches....can someone expand on that? Thanks

Re: Rooting a brand new phone

well the pc36img could be a couple of different things, it could be a rom or it could be a kernal so that's why it's a good idea to maybe throw a name after it, i.e. pc36img-bootscreen <make sure to take off the bootscreen part if you are going to try and flash it as the phone won't recognize it with that name> and stick it in a folder that you put on your sd card named bootscreens so that you keep your stuff seperate, i suggest making a folder on your sd card for roms, kernals, radios, bootscreens or anything else that you want to save to your sd card and that way you can keep them seperate. personally i have a copy of the stock rom on my sd card, a couple of custom roms, a couple kernals and that way if my phone messes up while i'm away from my computer i have everything i need on my sd card that's in the phone.

your supposed to wipe the dalvik cache and those other items so that when you flash a rom or kernal that you take off the old information and won't have conflicts because your flashing new stuff over the old, i know this is not the best information or down to the last detail but it's what i understand as why you do those things, suggest you search on this site or google it if what i explained wasn't clear.

Re: Rooting a brand new phone

pc36img.zip contains image files not folders like many rom.zips do

Re: EVERYTHING EVO - Rooting | NAND | Flashing Roms | Wipe

I'm having a hard time getting rid of the Superuser icon in my menu settings. I had to unroot so I can get a replacement phone. Followed all the steps and all, but I cant get rid of the supersuer icon

Root Did Not Work

Hi all,

I'm on HTC Evo 4G
I tried to Root using UnRevoked 3.32
Thought it went well
I see the Ninja SuperUser under All Apps

However, today I downloaded Titanium Backup and tried to install

Error msg:
"Sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This application will *not* work! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and includes BusyBox and try again"

Did I miss a step?

thx

Re: Root Did Not Work

Boot into Bootloader and check that you are S = Off.
That allows you to install unsigned images.

If so, start up and go back into TB and click on the Problems button. It will install the latest version of BusyBox command interpreter.

open TB again.. it should ask to install 'busybox' or use the 'check for problems' button while in TB to install busybox.

Re: EVERYTHING EVO - Rooting | NAND | Flashing Roms | Wipe

ThaCounty and Iknowsquat,

Its been a while since I have researched this subject so I am outdated and running thru these 234 pages is quite time consuming. So I ask you if there is a one step root procedure for the EVO (not shift) with hardware 004 and hboot 2.10.0001? If not then is there a procedure at all?

I remember you or someone saying at some point that the entire matter rested on hboot version and not hardware version. Thanks a million.
