Re: EVERYTHING EVO - Rooting | NAND | Flashing Roms | Wipe

Thanks for the write-up! I used the original method of rooting/nand/flash back when OMJ's 2.2 v3.0 ROM came out on my release-day EVO (hw v. 0002, hboot 0.76), around mid-to-late August. I followed the method used in the two original videos.

My question is this: right after rooting, when I did the c:\evo-recovery backup, where did that backup get saved? And how do I access it now that I have ROM Manager, ClockworkMod and/or Amon RA? Any method I use to boot into Recovery puts me into Clockwork or Amon RA recovery, but neither of these were options prior to flashing the first time.

Does that make sense? Thanks for your help.

?'s about flashing 1st ROM and OTA notice

First, I am as novice as I can be but I did manage enough nerve to root my EVO via unrevoked so I can tether. I am very much interested in flashing my first custom rom and I think I would like to try cyanogen first and maybe OMJ. I have a few questions first, Can I just download any of the ones that I see in ROM Manager? I have already backed up my current rom through the setting on rom manager and also copied everything on my sd card to a folder on my desktop. Does this mean all of my contacts are saved as well? If I don't like cyanogen, I can go back to what I had before the flash by choosing the file that was saved when I go to back up/restore in Rom Manager?
Second, I received an OTA about going to 3.70 build which from what I read here to ignore because it would cancel my root. My phone is still 3.29 build, 003 hardware, 1.77 pri and prl is 60672. Am I missing anything substantial by still being at 3.29 and not 3.70? Is there some way to get the 3.70 update build and still stay rooted?

Thank you all for your helpful info and hard work!

Re: ?'s about flashing 1st ROM and OTA notice

Go into recovery....(with power off, hold volume down button and power the phone on) wipe cache and davlik cache twice, then do a nand backup. You can flash OMJ's rom or any other for that matter through recovery and then just do a nand restore and be back to where you were at before the flash if you dont like the new ROMs. I dont like ROM manager personally but others love it, so I cannot speak of how to use ROM manager.

Also update your PRL

Re: ?'s about flashing 1st ROM and OTA notice

A real good place to start, for now, is Sprint Lover's "All in One". Search for it over at XDA. The reason I recommend that one is that it has the radio wrapped up in it. Do as above before you get to that point. Also, I recommend Amon_RA's recovery. You will find one among these threads that is wrapped in a PC36IMG.zip file.

Simply copy that to your SDCard and go into bootloader and let it load.

I will be in and out of this thread for the next few hours.

Okay, I am hanging the Recovery on this thread so there you go.

Copy to your card in the usual way. Shut down phone and boot into Bootloader. When it comes up, wait about 10 seconds and it will see the files, process it and ask if you want to load it. Say yes and let it load. Then let the phone reboot and follow the instructions in the post above.

Re: help please

Try flashing a new recovery. Amon-RA and Clockwork both updated their recovery programs recently. Also the 3.70 ROM's do require the new radios flashed also.

format it and try it again. I had one that had so many errors on it that was the only way it would work again.
