Re: Finally Sprint Diamond on Verizon, but...

While you are in QPST go into EFS explorer. You should be able to load your 10.key file into the DMU folder by adding a new file. Make sure to clear your shared secret keys in M.IP settings and set your DMU Pub Key to 10.

So would Verizon have anyway of knowing that you activated a smartphone or not?

I'm asking because I'd like to use a Diamond on Verizon without a data plan, but they changed their policy and now require smartphones to have data plans.

But if I just go and activate the phone, will the ESN or anything else give away what I'm using?

I think not as the phones right now usually show up as an unknown phone. I think this is due to the lack of the ERI file but I'm not sure as I can't get the ERI file to take on my Touch.

For those that have successfully switched to Verizon please check to see how it is reporting your phone.

I'm happy to see that this is working for everyone.

Re: Finally Sprint Diamond on Verizon, but...

Sorry for my ignorance but what is an ERI file and what are the negatives of not having one?

I had read elsewhere that Verizon could always figure out what phone you had based on the ESN but that wouldn't make sense of the phone shows up as unknown...

Re: Finally Sprint Diamond on Verizon, but...

My verizon account summary shows an unknown phone for my account.

I'm guessing they require the data plan to offset the cost of subsidizing smartphones with activation/contract discounts.

When I previously spoke with a verizon tech they had no idea what kind of phone I was using.

There are a couple guides to doing this. See if this one helps:

I have yet to do any of this... but hopefully your answers are solved there.

Well that gives me hope. Are you actually using the phone without a data plan or do you have one?

I've got a data plan. The thread you linked has some conflicting information for the requirement of the data plan. I'd guess that it's not required.

Re: Finally Sprint Diamond on Verizon, but...

Ooh I'm not sure on that, but I would assume so...

Might want to dig through and see if anyone asked there or ask Nior just to be safe.

I'd guess the process would be the same, but I haven't ever done it so be forewarned!
