Re: Barcelona Spain and TP
I used Skype in Paris by walking around the city trying to find a free wifi spot. As soon as I got into Paris to meet a friend I realized my GSM phone was out of minutes since I forgot to top it off back in London. Lucky for me free wifi spots were pretty abundant walking around. Skype works fantastic on the PPC, even in Europe. Many hotels/hostels typically offer free wifi so you can typically piggyback off those signals.
Barcelona is a beautiful place, though it's not particularly known for it's beaches (some of them are nude though, but it's not as fun as you'd imagine as there are many old, unattractive folk around, hahah). The beaches are artificial and not nice and sandy so it can actually be pretty painful to walk on without sandals. You gotta check out some of the architecture in Barcelona, specifically buildings by Gaudi, which tend to be very surreal and funky. There's a fantastic park with a lot of his architecture called Park Guell that you should take a bus to and check out. The Sagrada Familia is really cool too and probably one of the funkiest looking cathedrals you'll ever see. Eat lots and lots of paella, I've never had paella better, though try to find some of the more authentic local places. Theres a fantastic restaurant in Placa Real that I can't quite remember the name to, but there's always a relatively large line waiting for seating, so its not that hard to miss. Even though it seems everyone goes there, I still highly recommend it. At night it can be kind of sketch, especially in the darker alleys, but nothing to overly worry about. Whenever you go to cities you don't know, it's always handy to buy/borrow the lostplanet/timeout/travel guides. That helped my friends and I plan out to do as much as we can when we went to various cities. Last edited by Darkjedi; 04-16-2009 at 01:24 PM. |

Re: Barcelona Spain and TP
Word, this is GREAT to know as I'm heading to the middle east for a month and then stopping over in The Netherlands, Belgium, and France for a month afterward. I didn't even THINK about skype, what a great idea!
I should also test out the GPS, I'm planning on getting Tomtom or equivalent for Europe navigation as I won't really be able to rely on google maps (due to the constant data streaming)...although I guess I could find a hot spot, choose a zoom level of the map, and load up as many regions of the map as possible for navigation purposes, but I seem to remember Google Maps *****ing about no data connection.

Re: Barcelona Spain and TP
Im going to Barcelona (4th time) this May. It's one of the greatest cities. I'll be getting my son baptized in the cathedral in the gothic district. I had my daughter baptized there as well a bout 2 years ago. I have family that lives there so I love it, just look at my avatar FC Barca! On subject there is endless activities there and all of the spots mentioned in the earlier posts are excellent. Just wandering around and feeling the culture and the eye candy that the archetecture is makes this city a rewarding travel destination. I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Sad to hear about the beaches. We were thinking about checking it out since were very close by. If not we can always chill at the pool. I believe ours is on the top level outdoor area and it over looks the city. Atleast thats what I saw in one of the images. Were probably gonna freeze out butts off since its kind of chilli there at the moment. But itll be fun..lol Last edited by aznmode; 04-16-2009 at 07:47 PM. |
