Barcelona Spain and TP

Hey guys. I will be going to spain in a few weeks and I know my Sprint phone will not work in Spain but I will be using skype for calls and data. Is this going to be ok as long as I'm using wi-fi. Have anyone experience Skype issues in Europe?

Also on a separate note...where are the party hot spots in Barcelona? Also where to eat, what to see, etc if you guys have been there. What not to do or watch for lol. Our hotel is in Avenida del Paral.lel. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Re: Barcelona Spain and TP

I used Skype in Paris by walking around the city trying to find a free wifi spot. As soon as I got into Paris to meet a friend I realized my GSM phone was out of minutes since I forgot to top it off back in London. Lucky for me free wifi spots were pretty abundant walking around. Skype works fantastic on the PPC, even in Europe. Many hotels/hostels typically offer free wifi so you can typically piggyback off those signals.

Barcelona is a beautiful place, though it's not particularly known for it's beaches (some of them are nude though, but it's not as fun as you'd imagine as there are many old, unattractive folk around, hahah). The beaches are artificial and not nice and sandy so it can actually be pretty painful to walk on without sandals. You gotta check out some of the architecture in Barcelona, specifically buildings by Gaudi, which tend to be very surreal and funky. There's a fantastic park with a lot of his architecture called Park Guell that you should take a bus to and check out. The Sagrada Familia is really cool too and probably one of the funkiest looking cathedrals you'll ever see. Eat lots and lots of paella, I've never had paella better, though try to find some of the more authentic local places. Theres a fantastic restaurant in Placa Real that I can't quite remember the name to, but there's always a relatively large line waiting for seating, so its not that hard to miss. Even though it seems everyone goes there, I still highly recommend it.

At night it can be kind of sketch, especially in the darker alleys, but nothing to overly worry about.

Whenever you go to cities you don't know, it's always handy to buy/borrow the lostplanet/timeout/travel guides. That helped my friends and I plan out to do as much as we can when we went to various cities.

Thank you. I will definitely try most of your suggestion and YES I'm planning to eat whatever looks like won't kill me..lol. I've seen some images on the web and the place looks gorgeous. Is there any decent pub/club to check out there? I heard night life is over at 4am. Do you recommend staying at Hostels? Kinda scary after I saw the movie..haha.

Sad to hear about the beaches. We were thinking about checking it out since were very close by. If not we can always chill at the pool. I believe ours is on the top level outdoor area and it over looks the city. Atleast thats what I saw in one of the images. Were probably gonna freeze out butts off since its kind of chilli there at the moment. But itll be fun..lol

I think I went around this time of year and it was pretty warm, pretty much summer As for the nightlife I don't remember anything particularly memorable. The friend I went with wasn't too into the night stuff so she didn't really want to go to the clubs. The downtown-y area definitely is pretty alive still late into the night, so you probably won't have trouble finding a good place to have fun.

I've mostly stayed at hostels when I went with a large group of friends, but hotels when going with only a couple. Hostels are actually pretty fun when you have a bunch of you that can take up a whole room full of bunkbeds and is dirt cheap (some cities are usually around 20€/night). I've never had a problem with hostels, just make sure you use the lockers they usually provide you to lock up anything valuable when you're not around or asleep. I've actually met some really interesting people at hostels that we randomly struck up conversations with, so it's always really cool to meet people from everywhere around the world.

How long are you staying?

Good to know its not gonna be as cold as I expected. By the way how far is the airport from downtown?? All the ones I'm going with including me are probably gonna be going out every night. It's gonna be tiring but we have to make the most of it.

I think our last day we may end up staying at a hostel but I'm sure were going to have luggages. Are the lockers big enough? Were going for 7 days so its gonna be large luggages.
