The lightbulb finally went off in my head as to why sprint doesn't share their non-GPS AFLT cell location data without a collaboration with them...

Why give it away for people to use with Google Latitude, when you're charging for it:

Had the same problem. Try disabling GPS then restarting Google Maps. Then log into Latitude. Seems that while the GPS is using the data connection it cannot communicate with the Latitude server.
