Re: Firefox Mobile..

So, everyone that is complaining that the version linked to in this thread is slow, doesn't work, etc, try and remember a few things: That link was originally given to other developers (and onlookers) during a developer's chat on IRC, so its most likely a developer's version, which means it likely has a ton of debug code still in it. This debug code provides useful error information to the developers when the app crashes or they terminate it, etc. Developer's generally don't care if the app runs slow while they're debugging it and in good software, that debug info is removed prior to release to the public. Once it's removed it will most likely reduce the executable size by quite a bit, and should speed up execution as well.

Please don't take this as a flame. I'm a developer myself, and just thought I'd come to the defense of the Fennec devs and provide a bit of insight to those that may not be familiar with the development cycle of a program, and friendly reminder to those that are

Re: Fennec to be released this week

Even though the alpha was sooooo slow, I was able to dab around and check out some of the features. I hope it can hold it's weight in the ring with Opera Mobile, but if they add more features to Opera Mini like tabs, there will be no stopping the Mini.

Release it Mozilla!!!!!!!!

Re: Firefox Mobile..

Wow so many people bashing this and oh guess what it's a pre alpha version do you understand what this means it is NOT even close to being a final release or at least a RC. I will be getting the beta when it's release to try out and it does look very promising to have another browser to choose from to use on our ppc. I'm just amazed on the amount that are allready bashing this I'm surprised at this do you expect the dev team to just think up an idea and automagicly for it to come into being from nothing and it too work with no issues at all.

Re: Firefox Mobile..

This is why it was "leaked" and not officially announced yet. It's still in development, not anywhere near being ready. If they officially release it, all the idiots come in to trash it without even knowing WTF is going on.

Firefox Mobile may be on Touch Pro next week

All I have to say is I can't wait!

Quote:

Despite a previous update from the Mozilla team, it now looks like the Firefox Mobile browser, codenamed Fennec, could be ready for a Windows Mobile beta as soon as next week, and they've chosen a phone to do the honors.
From this week's meeting:
We are targeting a Milestone release for the first week of February, targeting the HTC touch pro.
There you have it. And dollars to donuts once the kids at XDA Developers get hold of this, we'll see it ported to other HTC phones pretty quickly.
If you still can't wait and want to give Fennec a try on your desktop, hit us up here for a link to the emulator versions.
