We must admit that the builds have gotten progressively better and better, the last two i.e. 21215 and 21222 have given us improved sound quality in WMP, improved I.E [though alot still needs to be done on it], battery life has been remarkable several builds backwards etc etc.
So May 11th is not a terminal point but a curve in the right direction. We are not expecting a bug free rom, there is nothing MS could give to us that we cannot improve upon in this community.

The way I see it is, expect something better and make allowance for improvements. To this end the leaks wouldn't stop coming.

Zecanilis, if you are a prophet, you are surely not a prophet of doom but of hope. The whole of this community say Amen to your prayer.

Please, do not think badly of me for saying this and do not hold it against me, because I don't think I am completely alone in this... What I am about to say is going to be about some higher members of this forum, so I mean no disrespect.....

Can we get back to talking about WinMo 6.5 builds in general. What works, what doesn't, what others have found for tweaks, possible resolutions, xip/sys releases/updates, etc.. It seems the last couple days this thread has turned into a PPCK thread. Isn't there a thread for discussing PPCK and the builds it makes already? This thread was meant to organize WM6.5 development for all kitchens, not just one. It's awesome you all are so devoted to helping each other with that kitchen and I agree it is the most popular and most user-friendly kitchen, but not all of us use it. So talking about releases and how to get it working in that particular kitchen will help me (and some others) in no way.

I'm sorry I had to say that, but I felt it needed to be said.

And then came the rain..........

EDIT: I still feel bad for stating it like this. I am not very good at "not" being blunt. I wish I could have thought of a nicer way of saying this, but I don't really know how. I am too matter-of-fact and blunt. So I apologize for anyone who misconstrued what I meant. Because that is not my intent. My intent is to merely ask if we can get this thread back on topic and work towards a common goal again, like Conflipper stated in the OP. That's basically all I was wanting to say.

well, the thing is... getting everyone to use a standardized kitchen that works for any device will save alot of posts regarding "how to get this on my device" that was kind of the reason for the ppck training. since xips and sys released in here are usually set up for ppck, just trying to make it easy on everyone. Off Topic? maybee a little, but neccesary(boo, I can't spell) evil

I've been running 21222 for over a week now and for the most part, it runs VERY well...except for one thing. I have noticed that gwes.exe starts leaking RAM like a failed dam. When I boot, it uses just 10MB, but sometimes, after 24 hrs it can get up to 22MB. Anyone else seeing this?

If it weren't for this process running out of control I would not have to reboot as much as I am. The other funny thing is, sometimes it does not leak ay all, and this phone goes for a couple of days without leaks.

WTF?

HAH! I wish it only used 5MB on my phone. So what the hell could cause the "Graphical Windowing and Event Subsystem" to suck it up like that? I'm on a Touch Pro now, so I wonder if any other CDMA touch pro users r seeing this. The only thing I can think that might be causing it is the Showaco weather. But I would assume that it would kill shel32, but it ride around 6 after a while and doesn't really move much more.

Can you, or anyone else here think of what the hell would cause this process to run amok?

Re: WM 6.5 Kitchen QVGA and VGA Developer Edition

I have already posted this issue for the QVGA version too. On my GENE with 64 MB RAM, i initially get 21 MB free but after some time, GWES starts to eat memory and goes upto 8-9 MB while usually in 6.1 it stayed at 5 max. Next big memory hog is device.exe with 3.5 MB and then Shell32.exe with 3 MB. System RAM reduces to about 8 MB and program start to close on their own (i have diabled htc task manager even, by deleting its service entry in HKCU\Software\HTC\Bootlauncher\Services.) At this time i am forced to reboot. On the positive note, Media player no longer leaks much memory, although it takes a lot of it while playing songs but the RAM is reclaimed immediately after closing it.

Re: WM 6.5 Kitchen QVGA and VGA Developer Edition

I have to reboot once per day. GWES runs up to about 5 MB. Device and Services usually get up to 6MB during the day. cprog starts at 2.5 MB and runs up to 5-6 MB by the end of the business day. I am usually giving it a reboot around 3-4 pm so I can continue working on it. I run Opal Phone Canvas. Don't know if that makes a difference or not. It seems every device is different. All I know is that 6.5 is rock solid on my Apache. No leaks and runs about 20 MB all day long!

joojoobee666 05-10-2009 10:29 AM

Re: WM 6.5 Kitchen QVGA and VGA Developer Edition

I found that shell32 sucks up the RAM due to Titanium. I also no longer add a phone canvas. When I do, I loose over 7MB of RAM right off the bat.

And see? Today, GWES.exe is at 12696kb. Hasn't changed at all from last night. It was at 12616 12 hrs ago....wtf?:protest:

*grumbles*

Yeah, I used to have a Titan, and 6.5 ate RAM like there was no tomorrow. I absolutely had to reboot at LEAST once a day. It would have 25MB free on boot, but within 6 hrs it would be down to around 17MB. At 17MB, I couldn't run Opera, iGO8 or Iris so a reboot would be necessary.

Hey ggurausa, do think it's possible to add a check box to PPCK that will allow us to supress the overwrite prompt and just overwrite?

I asked the same a while back. The option is already there in the View menu "File Exists Warning". It doesn't persist from one launch of PPCK to the next though so you have to uncheck each time you open PPC-BuildOS.exe (not each time you cook).

It works perfect w/YouTube, etc. I don't really see much difference in perf. over 21502, and in fact, memory management seems slightly worse. Of course this varies from device to device as we have all seen, so knock yourself out nonetheless and please report back your findings for the community.

You must replace the folders and not touch ANY files in them. I simply rename my original SYS to SYS.21xxx and original ROM to ROM.21xxx.

Known Issues:

For proper battery icon display, just adjust Settings/Clocks & Alarms/More and uncheck the "Display the clock.." check-box.

For 3-column Start Menu, use this:

http://www.mediafire.com/file/2rnz2nzz0gm/6.5 - 3 column start menu.cab

Thank you. I'll definately give that a shot. I've had no luck anywhere else so far (can't even get PPCK to build 21222 for me at this point).
