edit: Also, piracy is the theft of goods for later sale. Sharing software with other people outside of the license is not piracy. It is copyright infringement.

Big difference. One deprives a merchant of goods to sell and one deprives the owner of intellectual property of a potential sale. When there is no way a person would pay for a program to begin with, downloading a free copy might just help out in the long run due to increased awareness of the software by those who might actually buy it.

Thankfully, lots of PPC apps have trial versions so I can try them out before I buy without violating the license.
