Re: Piracy, warez and You.

I just wanted to say that the website i believe malatesta was referring to is Removed by Moderator.

I dont think anyone goes into the software Dev business as a way to make a zillion dollars, but rather from a passion which grows and leads down that road eventually. I believe everyone who Dev's software knows the score out there. But internet and piracy is not so black and white. There are the Dev's who develop spyware, and then there is advertising and also the FREE email accounts which sell your info.

But there is a way to be successful and make a few bucks even with the PIRACY issue.
First of all making a good prog will lead to recognition. even if u gave the software away for free and just required a registration of a email address, u could sell the email info our send out advertising which draws people to your site then advertiser will want to pay u to put adds there. u could be recruited by a big DEV company and make a nice chunk of change. Since there will always be piracy, no use in trying to justify it, but better yet, make it work for u if u r a Dev. Piracy is a powerful advertising tool, cause without it, the Dev's would starve just the same and sell little of the progs they develope. Its kinda of a compliment in 1 silly aspect , because nobody pirates a crappy program.

anyhow theres my two pennies

Please do not post the name or links to warez sites. If anyone wants to look for them, let them look... but this is not the place for it.

There is a reason why Malatesta did not mention the name of the site.

Thanks for understanding.

I'll be the devil's advocate, why is it up to application developers to make up for what you feel Sprint did wrong? They are not related.

ycats has a very good point, those sites may give you c*****d apps, but the price is possibly destroying your PC!!!!

Now...to try and be fair to you AND the developers, if you list the apps you feel your slighted on, I am sure that this community has either free versions (not warez, true freeware), or close substitutes in here!!!

Re: Piracy, warez and You.

A huge reason people pirate is because of price. Yeah, $10 is not much but considering we paid hundreds of dollars on these nice phones the last thing we want is to spend more money. I mean WA and WAD cost $20 together plus if you want an iPhone theme like Ozan Killic's you're looking at a total of at least $30-$40, which is already a lot let alone a couple hundred(or more) on a phone, so the price adds up. Music is still severely overpriced. An entire CD costing $10+ is ridiculous since you usually only like a handful of songs and the mindset of downloading is easier when it's free. In the future they're working on mp3 devices that you buy but don't have to store music onto as they can access music from servers or something for free, which will be great, my brother read about this.

I think maybe you need to start listening to better bands then

edit: Also, piracy is the theft of goods for later sale. Sharing software with other people outside of the license is not piracy. It is copyright infringement.

Big difference. One deprives a merchant of goods to sell and one deprives the owner of intellectual property of a potential sale. When there is no way a person would pay for a program to begin with, downloading a free copy might just help out in the long run due to increased awareness of the software by those who might actually buy it.

Thankfully, lots of PPC apps have trial versions so I can try them out before I buy without violating the license.

Re: Piracy, warez and You.

Well I was just saying that on most CD's you never like all of the songs, maybe half or 75% of them so I can see peoples' mentalities being something along the lines of wondering why pay for an entire CD when you only want certain songs or just not all of them. Now you can just buy a song from iTunes but that's still overpriced if it's still $1 per song.

I tend to agree about being overpriced but you can either get the CD or download a few singles online. There are also plenty of ways to just listen to stuff for free if you don't want to buy it. I'm not saying I never download without paying but there are certainly ways to get just the songs you like. I usually tend to buy the CDs of bands I see live. I would rather pay $8 at a merch table than $15 at the store. Besides, most of the bands I end up seeing live aren't even big enough to sell CDs at the store. I mostly order tracks online (never iTunes) or buy from the band's own merch table.
