SPB Software Good/Bad
Hello Users,
I was hoping everyone would be willing to talk about SPB Software for a bit here. I was hoping to discuss two main things: 1. What roles SPB software can play and at what point they begin to overlap. Example: I have installed SPB Pocket Plus onto my Treo 700wx, which after Palm's additions was pretty user friend, but the tabs have added a lot of function. However I was also eyeing Mobile Shell. At what point do the SPB applications begin to overlap each other? The three that seem to overlap the most are Pocket Plus, Mobile Shell and Phone Suit. Thoughts? How do you incorporate them all? 2. Stability Issues: I don't think anyone would question that SPB is a repubitle software developer. They currently, and have, hold/held an excellent presence in the WM community. However, I have owned four devices on which I have installed SPB products: 6700, i730, Mogul, and 700wx. I have had different positive and negative experiences with all four devices and a number of SPB apps. Example: Phone Suit slowed down my 700wx and caused Kinoma Play to fail but worked fine on my i730. Mobile Shell was bad on my Mogul but Pocket Plus works wonderfully on my 6700 and 700wx. You get the picture. Can anyone account for the instability by what most would consider a leader in 3rd party applications? Why am I having so many issues? I look forward to many responses from what I am sure is a wide fan base. Thanks! Billbeme www.spbsoftwarehouse.com |

Re: SPB Software Good/Bad
I use PhoneSuite (likely my most used app) and Backup on my Mogul -- They work fine for me and I have quite a few apps loaded up on the device. I have not noticed the slowdown mentioned above on my device. The most recent version of Backup is considerably faster than the previous version and I have no complaints about it either...

Re: SPB Software Good/Bad
Greetings. The newest version of gprs monitor appears to slow down your/device data connection. I noticed that when running pocket speedtest. With gprs installed the results are around 100kbps and without gprs results are around 500-600kbps. And talking about overlapping, if you already own spb weather and spb insight, getting spb online would be kinda (my opinion) pointless, unless a few strange t.v channels, radio, and a few online games is worth $30 to you. Overall, i personally love spb products. dschoenike

Re: SPB Software Good/Bad
I love pocket plus. Works great with no slow down. tried to use mobile shell but i cant understand why there is no tab i can put my program shortcuts into. Yea, their is the "program" tabs. But that is the recent programs or some list of useless shortcuts.

How is pocketplus doing? I used to use it all the time, but I kept losing my icons. While it was no big deal to reset them, it was a pain...
I still use Spb PhoneSuite, Time, and Weather with no hitches! ![]()

Re: SPB Software Good/Bad
Pocket Plus 4.0.2 has a problem with 6.1 where the icons revert to generic after a soft-reset. I rolled back to 4.0.1 and the icon issue went away.

Re: SPB Software Good/Bad
Well there has been no update since Dec 2007! but seems to still be fine for me. I like the X/close also. Tried the others and this for me seemed the cleanest.

Re: SPB Software Good/Bad
I've used the following SPB applications on my 700wx running WM5 with zero problems and zero slow-downs or impacts to phone performance:
SPB Mobile Shell--used it since it first came out...no problems. SPB Phone Suite--see above. SPB Backup--first offerings were iffy....new version is stable. SPB Online--no problems. late, Coz
