Skyfire Version 0.80 Beta
Good news everyone, Skyfire has just released to public beta version 0.80 of their web broswer. What’s New in Skyfire? The 0.8 release of the Skyfire mobile browser contains the following new features and enhancements:- Contextual Zoom let’s you simply and quickly get to exactly where you want to be on the page. Skyfire’s zooming capability has been improved, and now the camera corners feature shows you a match with major screen elements within its view. - Faster application launch means what it says - Skyfire launches much quicker so you to get your content quicker. - Improved both video and audio quality so you have a smoother playback experience. - Skyfire will automatically reconnect, so you don’t need to restart when your connection is disconnected. - Now you can set Skyfire as your default browser. - Enhanced inline text entry allows you to more easily complete web forms right within a page. You automatically move to the next form element (text field, list, radio button, or checkbox) after you have made a form entry using the ‘OK’ or ‘Enter’ keys. - Handy new SuperBar to perform a search or enter a URL from a single field – it’s a great time and space saver. As always we provide search results from Google and Yahoo. - Content download allows you to download images and other content from most web pages. - Home screen integration allows you to add a Skyfire search and URL bar to your Windows Mobile Today screen, so you can enter what you are looking for right away without first starting Skyfire. - You can now share web content by SMS. We even make the URL short enough that it will fit easily into a SMS text message. Especially useful for the really long URL’s used by many sites. You can now also share Skyfire itself with friends by SMS or email. - If a website also has a mobile version, Skyfire can optionally hint to you about the availability of a mobile alternative. With the new mobile site indicator, you’ll get a quick link to access the mobile version – then you can decide if you want the mobile or full website. - Bookmarks have been significantly enhanced – giving you much better control. |

I don't see it on the site??

Re: Skyfire Version 0.80 Beta
Follow the instructions from this website. Skyfire has to send you the link via SMS, it's not available for download directly from the website.

Re: Skyfire Version 0.80 Beta
I'm in the beta program from the beginning. Do I need to create a new ID to download the latest version. Because when I login using my ID and send sms it says the file not found. Maybe they pulled it from the server temporarily.
Ok send the sms once again and I finally was able to download it. Thanks! |

Re: Skyfire Version 0.80 Beta
Can't seem to get this to work though:
Home screen integrationallows you to add a Skyfire search and URL bar to your Windows Mobile Today screen, so you can enter what you are looking for right away without first starting Skyfire. late, Coz |

you will, but you probably won't be able to use it. I just did an install on a clean system & now it won't accept my log-in. There is a 3 page thread now on their forum with people having the same problem. ~John |

Edit: After several attempts, I was able to change my location. Edit part deux: It reverted back to Mountain View after closing the app. |
Re: Skyfire Version 0.80 Beta
I'm not sure I was accepted to the beta. I signed up a couple weeks ago, but was never in the Beta. I really wanna try this out!! Grr!

Re: Skyfire Version 0.80 Beta
For those of you wondering about the homescreen integration, it will prompt you to install it during the setup, make sure you install that component or it won't work.
So far, it's got some issues. The context Zoom is nice, but the inability to resize the zoom window as before is really irritating. Also, I've noticed some pages don't work that used to. Not sure what happened there. On the flipside, the ability to download images, right click a link and goto is nice. |

I too cant get verified with my email addy and password, hmm seems there might be a few buggs
|
Re: Skyfire Version 0.80 Beta
Also, from several tests, the application seems to launch slightly faster but getting it to load the first page seems to take a lot longer.
And they still don't let you set your homepage. :| EDIT: Nice, no more text pop-ups for filling out forms. Much better. Also, downloads work great so far. |

Re: Skyfire Version 0.80 Beta
The "skyfire_6843_ppc50" is the newer version (0.80.6843), but the problem I'm having is when I enter my email & password for authentication, it says "Invaid e-mail address and password. Please try again". I have entered it several times and I know it's the right one because I can log into the user area on there website with it (it's the same). any ideas?

Re: Skyfire Version 0.80 Beta
there are now over 70 posts at the skyfire site with these log-in problems, I would DEFINITELY hold off on this update for now.

Re: Skyfire Version 0.80 Beta
I have some additional good news for you... starting tomorrow Skyfire Beta will be open to all users, for people having problems downloading version 0.80 keep trying or check back tomorrow after the servers cool down.

Re: Skyfire Version 0.80 Beta
I got the text, downloaded the software but I get a Invalid Email and Password error every time. I had a buddy of mine do the same, same error.
Their forums have a bunch of others getting the same error. Not sure that the dealio is, but I guess I'll wait, the reviews for Skyfire are pretty good. I'm eager to use it. |
Re: Skyfire Version 0.80 Beta
I went to the site and had a text sent to me for the download. I downloaded that file but it would not install. I did the same thing again and let it overwrite the the previous file. It then installed properly but it takes the pages a while to load. I have nothing else running in the background. It might just be everybody beating up the servers with this update
|
Re: Skyfire Version 0.80 Beta
Wow, that sucks. Mine is working fine. If anyone has any questions while you wait, feel free to ask.

Re: Skyfire Version 0.80 Beta
OK... for those having trouble. re-install .61 then without uninstalling it yourself install the pc cab for .8. that worked for me
