Boy, do I ever agree with that. The zooming function flat out sucks IMHO.

I have an 8 year old daughter playing soccer & a 19 year old son playing college football.

Yesterday, I was at my daughter's soccer game & I had the college website running on my phone as it gives running real time play by play updates on what is going on in the football game. The problem is, on the college site in the box where the play by plays is running the text is way too small to read on the PPC without zooming way in.

With skyfire, I would zoom it in about 4 levels so I could read it just fine but on every single play update it would jump back out to the original zoom setting & I would have to start all over again.
After this happened about six times, I switched over to Opera 9 & everything was fine from then on. In Opera, it was MUCH MUCH easier to read the constantly updated plays & the zoom level never changed from my original setting.

Did you post htis in skyfire forum? This definately is something they need to work on, being beta and all....

No, I don't really care anymore at this point. I am so sick of skyfire resetting itself as the default browser (even though I have told it at least 25 times in a row that I DO NOT want it as the default) that I am going to delete it from my system for now.

It once again gave me the "invalid user name & password" error last night & as a result refused to open a link that was emailed to me.

I can't deal with a program that constantly interferes with my everyday operation of my system & I will wait until all these bugs are worked out before I reinstall it.

John....don't give up on Skyfire, because it's working fine on many systems, including mine. Of course, I don't like the zoom feature as it is, but hopefully that will be re-designed shortly. If you delete SF from you system with it as the default browser, you may have some issues.....hang in there, there's nothing out there that's perfect, yet.

Re: Skyfire Version 0.80 Beta

I reverted back to an earlier version because I was having the same issues as everyone else. I like skyfire I hope they get the zoom feature ironed out. I like the zoom on opera mini the best out of all browsers.

wjrandon 10-06-2008 09:53 AM

Re: Skyfire Version 0.80 Beta

Opera Mini's zoom is basically a single step non-customizable zoom. That wont be beneficial in Skyfire when attempting to adjust your zoom ratio to fit various video sizes. What Skyfire should do is merge the two styles of zooming together, allowing the application to give its best approximation of a zoom area on the first click and then allowing the user to interactively adjest the zoom box as they did in previous releases.

Problem solved!

Grr down yet again asking for username and password. Man if Opera can only get Flash to work at a lot of sites i would never look at this browser again.

C'mon guys, it's beta. I get just as frusterated as everyone else, with skyfires' quirks and issues. As with most/all betas, skyfire's counting on us testers to keep banging away on this browser and givin' them feedback on how to improve it. Dropping it from our devices and giving up on it won't help them fix the problems. We need to visit the skyfire forums on a regular basis and keep on them with our suggestions and concerns. As beta testers, we all can help make skyfire a truly awesome mobile web browser. dschoenike

Re: Skyfire Version 0.80 Beta

I only use Skyfire on sites where i want to watch flash vids. I find for normal surfing, its slow and constantly has to redraw the page when scrolling even a little. It can't download files and the zoom is terrible. Not to mention all the signing on issues. Yes it is in Beta and i have no doubt it will improve.

However, with Opera getting better and Firefox Mobile about to go alpha there will be more competition which can only be better for us users!

dschoenike 10-07-2008 10:09 AM

Re: Skyfire Version 0.80 Beta

Definitely agree. The more competition, the better for us users. I could be wrong, but i thought skyfire added the ability to download with the most recent update .80. dschoenike

You know, I would agree with that 100% if it wasn't interferring with the every day operation of my system.

If skyfire would just sit there with all it "quirks" & not bother me until I had time to play with it that would be great. That is absolutely not the case however.

The silly thing absolutely INSISTS on being my default browser & then every time I try to click an email link I can't if the server is messed up (which has been more often than not recently). At that point, I honestly could care less if I'm helping them improve their beta product.......

Double agree.

It's been said before...but Skyfire is a BETA...it's supposed to be quirky and have bugs.

I can kind of understand you frusteration with intrusive software. So i mean this with no disrespect what so ever. I don't understand your logic of not wanting to help make skyfire better. Maybe it's because i have not had all the same problems you're experiencing. Over on another thread, i read about the issues you had/are having with Kinoma Player. (i personally think you've shown great restraint with all that, by the way) But you said something along the lines of, you thought you paid for not so ready for primetime beta software. I'm not sure if Kinoma had a beta or not, but let's say they did. If everyone that had problems with the scanning or changing of file associations, just gave up and uninstalled, Kinoma wouldn't know what to fix. Then they start selling their software, which may have serious flaws, for $30. (from what i've read, i don't think they had a beta, but maybe) I feel like us Skyfire users can help make an already good browser great. We just need to take our complaints and positive experiences to the proper place and let the dvelopers know what's really going on. And again, i mean no disrespect with anything i said. You've been very helpful around these forums, and when i see that you've posted something, i know it'll be a well thought out intelligent opinion. I realize beta testing isn't a positive experience for everyone, but i guess that's maybe the point of it. dschoenike

I suppose it is the same kind of problem where some people couldn't get it to sign in no matter what they did, & other people weren't having any problems.

I just checked again out of curiousity & sure enough the "make this POS the default browser" box was checked even though I have probably unchecked it 30 times in a row now....... ;-)

At first I didn't have the sound problem. Now I do.
The only things I've installed after were Pocket Plus, Core Player and Pocket Player.
Removing them didn't fix the problem and I don't have time to reflash for a few weeks and try a fresh build.

I have all those items installed also, and skyfire's working fine for me. The beta really seems like hit or miss. Works great for some, while others have constant ssues. But thats a beta for ya. Hope skyfire 1.0 works well for everyone.

Had that same problem a couple of days ago....I think it's just the annoying growing pains from a beta version. I have this love-hate thing going on with Skyfire, but nothing we can do personally. Still has tons of potential, but running out of patience on this end. Can't wait for firefox to get in the game.

Re: Skyfire Version 0.80 Beta

If you're having problems with Skyfire rest asured it's a problem with Skyfire's servers and not your PPC. I've noticed that bookmarks and the history pages haven't been working for nearly a week now also.

Kinda shows the downsize of having all this information reside on the server, but there's nothing we can do about it. I'm hoping that Firefox mobile and the new Internet Explorer for Mobile based on IE6 blows us away.

That right there is EXACTLY why you NEVER want to make this thing your default browser. I think with all these server problems lately we've all learned a good lesson about this.........

The thing is great when it works, but lately that has definitely been a crapshoot......

I haven't had that problem in a while now, but I absolutely cannot get this thing to quit deciding to be my default browser. Every single time I open it, I go into the settings menu & uncheck that box & it just resets itself & the box gets checked again......

Re: Skyfire Version 0.80 Beta

I was told on their forum to submit a trouble ticket to support@skyfire.com and they'll look into the situation. I'm thinking the trouble was aggravated by being a alpha tester for the last release. Some how their database that keeps up with my settings, bookmarks, history etc. has gone 404 on me. ](*,)

I suggest you do the same with the issue you are having. It might take them a few days but they do respond "eventually".

skyfire .6 expires oct 31st

Just as the title reads i just loaded my old version of skyfire( didnt like some of the features and hard enough sign-up problems) that we all faced to see a link up top of the skyfire start screen stating a newer version of skyfire had been released and I should upgrade because come oct. 31 my version of skyfire will no longer work! So I guess they backed us into a corner those of us who liked the older version over the new one arent goin to have any other choice but to upgrade eventually....

I could run NBC on demand with the new .80 but now I get an error asking for flash 9 or higher. Is that a NBC.com or Skyfire issue?

wjrandon 10-21-2008 12:13 AM

Re: Skyfire Version 0.80 Beta

Skyfire's support wasn't able to resolve my issue in a timely manner despite being in direct contact with one of their lead programmers. Luckly, Skyfire is now in an open beta so any Tom, ****, or Harry can signup for an account. I took full advantage of this by forwarding my broken account over to a landline telephone number and creating a new account to re-registered my cellular number. It didn't save my previous bookmarks of course, but I now once again have access to history and my new bookmarks once I recreate them.

There has been a lot of talk on Skyfire's support forums lately about limited access to some Flash based sites that once worked, and are now recently broken. I know the developers are still tweeking their rendering servers and its a possibility that few plugins become disabled when certain server software updates. So rest assured, the problem lays on Skyfire's end while the kinks are worked out.

Also you may notice problems accessing sites that require Microsoft Sliverlight.
