Palringo gets my vote...tried Slick and Beejive but hands down Palringo is the best for me.

Thanks

Well, there are a few Messenger programs that support MSN, AIM, Yahoo!, Google Talk, ICQ, etc. For example, there is WebMessenger and Palringo. Right now, the consumer versions of both of these softwares are free. Yet, the only Messenger I know that supports myspace is IMPlus. I think it runs for between $30-$40. I hope this helps.

What Does Palringo Require?text?or Data ?

ScrapMaker 11-09-2008 02:36 AM

Re: Instant Messaging -which one are you using?

Palringo is just data as far as I can tell. FYI they ALL require data, even the OZ client, which uses SMS and Data...

I had issues with Palringo disconnecting, and mainly, kept killing my AIM connection due to multiple re-connects...

JiveTalk is pretty good, but buggy, and only works on some ROMs.

I have been using OctroTalk, which is pretty cool because all of your conversations are saved on gmail. I can search through anything I sent or received. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Re: Instant Messaging -which one are you using?

Biggest gripe about palringo would have to be the fact that there has to be a vibrate option when you receive an option. How could the developers not create that??? It's beyond me.

Now that beejive has stopped support for windows mobile, Palringo is the only choice left of "nice" looking chat clients. Slick, IM+, Octro talk just don't cut it for me.

i'd love to see vibrate support in palringo!

Anyone have the older version that was released prior to this one? It seems as though the one before this latest one ran fine while roaming. The earlier version I had didn't let me connect while roaming or at least while on 1x. Ever since I upgraded to this new "location" enabled version I can't log on while roaming again.

Re: Instant Messaging -which one are you using?

Beejive abandoning winmo really sucks. Amazing interface, but the battery consumption was terrible. Palringo is prob the best as far as resources and battery and decent interface, but it doesnt seem to work with HTC+Alltel devices at least the Mogul and Diamond.

Yeigo supports facebook chat which is awesome and I havent found that in other unified messengers, but it doesn't support VGA and the interface is unintuitive.

Bump, anyone have the older update before this last one without the location feature?

Does anyone know if it's possible with palringo to save previous messages with the same person you've IMed AFTER you close the IM window?

Yes they do. I had palringo running overnight with a full battery and it was halfway dead when i woke up in the morning. Now i use Slick. I like that i could send files with it.

AIM and sometimes the IM platform that came with the Touch Pro

Re: Instant Messaging -which one are you using?

Palringo is pissing me off. I don't know why but I constantly get random IM's from people even though I have IM's blocked from people I don't know on all of my services. Also, Palringo never remembers my login info.

Re: Instant Messaging -which one are you using?

nimbuzz seems like it could be awesome, but for me it is very buggy. Skype wont call out and if I shift to landscape and back or just randomly like popping up the soft keyboard then nimbuzz messes up the display and basically forces a soft reset, which is terribly unacceptable. I'm running alltel stock ROM on tough pro. Anyone else seeing the same thing or not?

Does anyone know of any clients that use SMS? Seeing as I have unlimited SMS on my plan, and data-only clients kill my battery in a few hours, it seems like SMS would be a better bet.

I have used Slick on my 6800 for a while now, but need something for the Wife's Diamond any ideas? Will slick still look OK on her VGA screen compared to my QVGA i think is what my phone has...

Oz messenger. Uses sms.

I wish the data only clients had a quick "forward to mobile option" Rather then leaving it on all the time.

I always wondered why sidekick users get a different icon in Pidgin.

Re: Instant Messaging -which one are you using?

I currently use slick and beejive myself.

Beejive = Uses too much memory.
Slick = Uses too much battery.

I'm looking for another alternative. Even the Messaging through SMS would work perfectly with me. Is anyone else using Oz Messenger?

I pop it on every now and then. Best method I've used so far is mobile forwarding and turn on Palringo or beejive for sending. At least with aim this works.

Does Oz Messenger work with any provider? From what I been reading it seems like it only works on T-Mobile. Can anyone confirm this?

I think OZ is a Sprint Product.

Re: Instant Messaging -which one are you using?

OZ is not Sprint-only. Every carrier seems to have it.

You just have to have the right one, I believe.

I would use OZ more often, but it lacks in so many ways. I leave OctroTalk on most of the time, but if I know I will be away from my charger for long, I will exit, and AIM automatically goes into text-mode... Then I can open up whatever client I want.

I have Slick, AIM, OZ, JiveTalk, and OctroTalk.

OctroTalk is my favorite, because it saves your conversations to your gmail account... so I use that.

OZ uses less battery... but lacks in all other areas. Messages take FOREVER to get it sometimes. It's typical for me to get like 10 messages in 10 seconds, although they were sent over a few minutes...

Beejive is pretty, smooth, awesome. Uses up a lot of battery, and doesn't save conversations well.

Slick is pretty good, and you can backup your messages--but not as easily as OctroTalk.

I love being able to log into my Gmail account and search through whatever IMs I have.. awesome!

Re: Instant Messaging -which one are you using?

I wish the native live messenger client, could be tricked into logging on to aim. I think it has one of the best looking interfaces. Too bad I only have 5 MSN contacts.

Is There any that runs Aim besides the Offical (Aim) Newly Beta Version -Thats So Sluggish -that allows you to fully Read and post your own away messages..? i Honeslty Wish Palringo did this becuase it the best app hands down .. ! I also know Slick you can post your own custom aways but cant fully read peoples away without messaging them..

Thanks in Advance!

notrock 12-28-2008 08:06 PM

Re: Instant Messaging -which one are you using?

Good question. Palringo you can read a few words of peoples status messages, but you can't set a custom one. BeeJive you can set one but only can read a few words. It seems every client is missing one or two key features. If all the clients available were combined we'd have a full featured program.
