The system has to believe the handset is a touch from the moment you get network. The authentication is a combination of software (application) and hardware (ESN, MSID) in order to work. ESN/IMEIs are like MAC addresses with network adaptors, each one is individual and keyed to make/model of the handset. The minute the system gets an authentication request from your handset for network access it registers your esn as well as other subscriber info. This is what i have tried to more simply explain all along, that modifying the STV app and your handset OS settings is only half the task. Its really not more complicated than cloning a touch esn for this situation. Its a bit of a futile task unless you address the hardware/network aspect. Cloning handsets is illegal with criminal penalties if your caught using a "cloned" handset on a network. Sprint uses an "Approved ESN/IMEI List" which means you would need to duplicate an existing, pre-approved ESN. The duplicate ESN will get picked up by the network. ------------------ FYI for those thinking about how this impacts the Open Network/Handset Alliance, it really does not. The alliance is more about OpenSource OS for the handsets themselves. The Network portion would still need to have a handset screened by the system in order to function. If it were a "home built" device it would use an approved radio kit which would come with the appropriate "usable" ESN. There are no plans to allow "home built" radios themselves to access the network. Each network has an enormous budget directed to testing handsets for network usablity prior to launch (i know we all wonder how some still make it) with manufacturers often having to make hardware mods to satisfy the carrier (good example is the 6700 antenna "nub" they added it because they thought it would improve CDMA PCS reception).

I work for a third party (indirect) Sprint retailer, and i talked to our sprint rep, who works in the same building as some of the data guys, and regional enginners (that i've met), and they're saying no sprint tv on the mogul.
I wonder if they'd change their minds if we all emailed sprint about the issue until they changed their minds. Imagine working for sprint and coming to work every single day to see that all the emails have the subject of "Sprint TV on the Mogul.. please?". It wouldn't be difficult for sprint to allow Sprint TV... they already did it a few times without even knowing it.. ugh.. I think the only drawback would be that there's no content manager built for the Mogul.. thus no ringtone downloads, etc. Thoughts? Last edited by TrueArsenic; 12-15-2007 at 05:48 PM. Reason: "No sprint tv on the mogul" meaning ever. |

This maybe off topic, but I have read throughout this post of an updated rom that may fix this problem and other issues. The ? I have is, " If I have the WM6 kitchen by Helmi, am I able to go to a site such as HTC or Sprint for updates for the 6800? Will it recognize my phone as the Mogul and updates/rom upgrades are compatible?

Your phone in most cases will be recognized as a 6800 regardless of the OS flashed due to its ESN. Moderator, please lock this thread. We are spinning our wheels with the same posts over and over again, now in this the second thread just as the first. As for STV The temporary process which gets it to partially work has been posted many times. There is no permanent fix at this time. Last edited by canospinach; 12-15-2007 at 10:56 PM. |

Error 7000 I totally hate it! I get it to so don't feel bad. But, i'm putting it on a 6700 since I've seen that a few other 6700 users got it to work on theirs. Oh well i'll be keeping posted on this thread.
