[THEME] PhatPhinger I, II & III - a "stylus-free" QVGA theme

7 Attachment(s)
Introducing the ULTIMATE QVGA WeatherPanel theme:

http://www.venusware.net/images/phat...inger-logo.png

A "stylus-free" theme for all QVGA devices - 240x320 and 240x240 (square screens).

http://www.venusware.net/images/phat...240x320-01.gif - http://www.venusware.net/images/phat...240x240-01.gif

Features:
  • Large "thumb-able" buttons for one-handed access to all features
  • Supports both rectangle (240x320) and square (240x240) screens
  • Easy access to detailed weather forecasts, images and charts
  • Multiple layout sizes, from short (48 pixels) to tall (220 pixels)
  • Transparent - works well with any Today theme
  • MASSIVE icons (courtesy of Yahoo) make a serious weather statement
  • Layouts to fit SPB Mobile Shell and SBSH PocketBreeze w/side tabs
  • All layouts and screens have been built from the "ground up" for maximum accessibility, usability and readability
  • CAB files included for easy installation to your storage card
http://www.venusware.net/images/phat...n-legend-1.png

Included Layouts:
  • Phat(240x240)+48.wpl
  • Phat(240x240)+66
  • Phat(240x240)+124 (I & II only)
  • Phat(240x240)+127 (I & II only)
  • Phat(240x240)+130
  • Phat(240x240)+145
  • Phat(240x240)+145+PBst (for PocketBreeze w/side tabs)
  • Phat(240x320)+48
  • Phat(240x320)+66
  • Phat(240x240)+116 (III only)
  • Phat(240x320)+130
  • Phat(240x320)+145
  • Phat(240x320)+200
  • Phat(240x320)+200+PBst (for PocketBreeze w/side tabs)
  • Phat(240x320)+220
  • Phat(240x320)+220+PBst (for PocketBreeze w/side tabs)
Installation instructions can be found in the PhatPhinger QVGA Readme file (found inside the zip files).

Note 1: The PhatPhinger I theme MUST be used with the PhatPhinger QVGA Icon set. It won't not work correctly with other icon sets. The PhatPhinger icons are basically just the Yahoo icon set - with Huge and Huger icons added in. PhatPhinger II and III will work with other standard weather icons, provided they contain HUGE icons ( 128x128 ). I've provided a bunch HERE.

Note 2: Regarding images - WeatherPanel, when programmed to display a specific radar image (1-8, in this case) does not show the zoom/play buttons by default. Just place your phat phinger on the image and hold for a second and they'll show up...

Attachments:
  • PhatPhinger I QVGA Theme.zip - Original theme files, install instructions included (requires PhatPhinger Icons)
  • PhatPhinger II QVGA Theme.zip - Theme files, install instructions included. Works with any standard icon set.
  • PhatPhinger III QVGA Theme.zip - Theme files, install instructions included. HTC Touch style graphics.
  • PhatPhinger QVGA Icons.zip - Icon files, install instructions included
  • PhatPhinger QVGA Icons.cab.zip - CAB install for Icon files - for installing to your storage card
Enjoy!

PhatPhinger II QVGA

Thanks Mal. I appreciate that, not to mention all the help you've given me in the past. I think I've finally achieved (to me anyway) the perfect WeatherPanel theme. And a bonus: With this theme, WP-Pilot becomes a moot point. I think it operates better with the thumb...

Hey storyr. Great job. Impressed again. What file in this theme do i need to extract , drop into notepad ,and change to to make the text color black? Its been a little while since i modified one of your themes, but in commuter 240 I believe that it was the darkcamlayout file that i changed the color codes in. I appreciate it.

Thanks jamesus - I hadn't thought of the 70's thing, but now that you mention it...

If you haven't tried the layouts yet, they do have a black "glow" behind the white text - which works well on light backgrounds (even white):

http://www.venusware.net/images/phat.../white_bkg.png

To answer your question about editing the layouts:

It depends on which layout you're using. Let's say you like Phat(240x240)+145.wpl. Each layout file has one or more companion files. In this case, the companion file is Phat(240x240)+145-Dash.wpx. You would need to edit both of these files.

To change the text to black, change all occurrences of:
NORMAL GLOW-32-32-32 GLOWEXPAND-1,255-255-255
to
NORMAL,0-0-0
and
BOLD GLOW-32-32-32 GLOWEXPAND-1,255-255-255
to
BOLD,0-0-0

Actually, I had stopped using WP after the whole authorization update because I was lazy. Also using WP-Pilot on the Mogul was kinda hard, it crashed a couple of times (Moguls fault, trust me).

But this brings a different spin to it, this theme will probably make use WP again!

So, thank you!!!

Pibe38 10-09-2007 02:20 AM

Just installed it, it is awesome!

One question though...

Any reason why I don't see the red X icon on the screentshots? Using the 240x320-66 layout.

Thanks!

As far as the red X (close) icon - you should always see them when tapping on the "phat" icons. The only time you won't is when tapping on the actual weather icon (a WeatherPanel behavior). The image file is called phat_close.png

Pibe38 10-09-2007 01:57 PM

You are right, I was clicking directly on the WP icon instead of the 'phat' icons. Thanks!

Catman51 10-09-2007 02:21 PM

I missed reading the forum over the weekend, and come back to another excellent theme! Thank you again.

Having a slight problem with the 240x320 200.
It won't show the last day?

What's the "last updated" date and time (it's on the icon page)? It could be that WeatherPanel doesn't have the data?

Catman51 10-09-2007 07:54 PM

Last update was 4:24 pm today, it's now 4:52 here.

Mach30SiR 10-09-2007 08:13 PM

excuse my ignorance, but can this be used in conjunction with HTC Home plug in? It looks amazing and would love to use it.

It can't, 2 different plugins. I mean, you can have both on the Today screen, but it's not like you can make these screens pop-up when you click on the HTC Today plugin Weather area.

Damn...too bad. Very nice WX information, tons more than the HTC Plug in.

Catman - Does it do this for all of your cities, or just this one? And which Trenton is that, anyway (so I can load it up)? Thanks...

Thanks - Not sure how to top this - it may be my last (except for the ever-popular HTC Touch version that may come out soon - thanks to poorlyduck)...

Hey thanks. Yes, I made it all myself - except for a few of the Phat icons. Acknowledgement in the readme file...

I appreciate that. Poor Son, but "thumb-ability" has it's benefits...

Once again, hands down to you. Here are a couple of pictures of what I did to make you theme better suite my needs. The settings button is hidden behind the degree symbol. Just hit the degree symbol next to the temp and that will bring up the menu of options. Also if you tap the center of the moon, sun, clouds or whatever the image might be on your screen at that time, it will bring up the current forecast screen.

budney 10-09-2007 11:57 PM

Incredible! Awesome work storyr, I can't wait to use this theme. :)

jrtesq 10-10-2007 10:15 AM

This theme is great. Any chance you can squeeze in a "feels like" temperature? That would make it perfect.

Yes, all of them. Trenton is New Jersey, but it is all of them.

blpalmer76 10-10-2007 11:01 AM

Storyr, I noticed with this theme the moon phase does not work on the main screen with the huge icons. Is there something I ned to do to make the moon phase work like you did with the commuter 240? Thanks for all you hard work with this program.

charleskincade 10-10-2007 11:15 AM

great work storyr. perfect. I have a 6700 with the htc home plugin. can you make a layout for me any less than the 130 but more than the 100. More like between 115 and 125, I really don't need the "updated on **/**/**" It makes the screen have to scroll down then. I just need it to be all-in-one if you can. Thank you for such superior work and great service to all of us.

That is a Commuter-240 only feature - it can't be done on clear layouts like this one. Sorry...

Thanks. I did add two new layout sizes yesterday for the 240x240 sizes: 124 and 127. Have you tried them for size yet? If one of them works, then I'll port it to the 240x320 size for you.
