the 3g icons are part of diniks taskbar, nothing else was installed besides the taskbar. thats wierd huh;]

That is weird, I wonder if theres a reg setting somewhere that tells it what icon to use?
What ROM are you on right now? Im on MightyROM official.

If you would, check in the registry at'
HKLM\System\OEM_STATE\RSSI

And see what those are set at.

He is on T Mobile=GSM, you are on CDMA, that is why the 3G/EV difference is shown.
