Exclamation Official Verizon XV6800 update and cost reduction!

Hello all! Not sure if anyone has been over to XDA recently, but there's good news on the horizon for Verizon (no pun intended) folks! An update to the XV6800 (Titan) is done and awaiting a release. News can be read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408447. And if you have an internet subscription, listen up! Most of you may not know this since it is NOT advertised yet on the website or even in the stores unless you ASK!!! But, if you're paying Verizon for internet on their unlimited acess $45 a month service, you can now change it to their new UNADVERTISED $30 a month service. I did not know this. Here's the why it's on the DL. Not all phones support EVDO Rev. A. So, not all phones can use the service. In fact, most can not. So, if they advertise that this can happen, many people get upset that they can't get unlimited internet at $30 a month. See what I mean? But, the 6800 can support Rev. A and it's even coming with this new update! So call Verizon, tell them you want the $30 a month unlimited since you have the 6800 and tell everyone you know who has it! They can only sign you up over the phone or in a store. Don't expect to find it on their website yet. It's not listed there and can't be subscribed to online, just phone or store. Spread the news!

Edit:
Just something else to chew on, Verizon is merging with Alltell. It's actually happening and the details are being ironed out, but all Alltell customers can expect their network to double in size before the year is done. Keep your eyes on the news too. Verizon is also looking at an MCI merger and a possible Qwest merger. Neither will increase their network by much, but if Qwest is adopted, say hello to mega bandwidth through a nicely laid fiber optic backbone. Nothing official as of yet on those two, but definite possibilities, like getting all the nice gadgets the Qwest and Alltell phones have and vice versa...

Not completely correct. They do have this $30 "deal" available, but if you are using any type of server-based push email, i.e. Exchange Server, Wireless Sync, etc., the plan won't work, and you have to stick with the $45 plan. Its geared to non-business users who only use the built in WM email.

Yes, I took advantage of the new data package a couple of months ago or so. I added a line on my Family Share Plan, changed the data plan, and am paying 5 dollars less per month than I was before.

Your edit paragraph is what has gotten me truly excited, tho. I live in a Qwest-serviced area, and have been anxiously awaiting some form of fiber to the home for gosh knows how long. But, after contacting Qwest, I've found that they have no plans to roll out fiber in my area for the forseeable future. I know that Verizon has been aggressive in deploying fiber in the states that they serve, but haven't heard anything about their FIOS service coming to Arizona -- It appears that much of the delay for FIOS deployment is due to the presence of Qwest. So, if Verizon were to merge with Qwest in some fashion, then things might change. So, I might just be looking at having a rollout of fiber in my neighborhood in a sooner timeframe than before. Gives me something to hope for at least. [-o<

Is this unlimited? I saw someone talking about this discounted internet in another thread a few weeks ago and it had a 5g/month limit.

That is the same limit that is placed on your "Unlimited" account. I know Verizon says unlimited but when you look at the TOC you will notice the 5GB cap.

Re: Official Verizon XV6800 update and cost reduction!

i had a rep back in may ask (verbatim) "Why the hell are you paying $45 dollars a month for internet? Here, I'll drop it down to the $30/month for you."

The world would be a better place if there were more reps like him.

FYI, this merger happened 2 years ago. I worked for Verizon when I was laid off due to this. They are now Verizon Business. Verizon Local bought them up and that was February of 2006. They are the ones controlling the FIOS service backbone. Due to FCC regs thou they have to stay separate. Just thought I would give you a little background there.

As far as the merger with Alltel, They have been in bed with each other for years. Verizon and Alltel have been sharing the backbone for coverage. Seperate switchs thou.
