I hate when it resend it i had some stuff ppl didnt need to know from there friends cell lucky me i turn it off when it did that
and Pim back up does that just turn off radio and then restore it so it wont resend them

Mine did the same thing when restoring from PIMBackup. I found that if I restore using SPB Backup the problem did not occur.

Well, for one thing it's self-contained. No need to even involved your computer in the process, you can do everything from the memory card. For another thing, not everybody syncs with a computer. Some are on Macs or Linux and aren't running any of the oddball tools that help facilitate that, not to mention ActiveSync isn't available for those, so its backup functionality isn't there. Also Vista uses Windows Mobile Device Center which has no backup abilities.

Personally, I flash so much that constantly re-pairing my phone with my computer was a pain, so I almost never bother to sync it. I just use one of the backup apps to backup the data I need, flash the new ROM via SD card, and restore.

Also, I hope you have unlimited texting... If not, call tech support, [DONT SAY YOU WERE USING A CUSTOM ROM] and tell them that it sent out 500 txt by itself... and make sure you don't get charged for them.

A quick explanation of what is occuring:

First off, it is probably not resending every text you have ever written, it is sending anything stored in your 'drafts' folder if you backed that up - I had this problem when upgrading to wm6.1 before. You can also see these texts in your sent folder if you are curious as to just what it has sent... Myself I had some very interesting texts go out and received several phone calls and texts from people who were like wtf?! Solution: don't back up/restore your drafts folder.

Also, as for the loading texts one at a time, that is windows mobile 6.1's threaded text message app 'threading' your texts (ie putting them into threads). This will happen every time you restore from backup and will take quite a while if you have a lot of texts. Also if one thread gets too long you may notice that it messes up and only shows your sent ones (or received, cant remember which) without threading properly (new ones will thread fine). I would recommend scaling down the size of your text messages as it's hard to look them up past a certain age anyways - ex if you have 5000 sent/received between you and one person just delete all of those. That will make it far faster. Otherwise you're gonna have to wait it out until it's done. It will go through all your received texts, then it will go through all of your sent texts, in chronological order. The only solution for this is to turn off threading (which can be done by a regedit) or to clear out some text messages.

Easiest thing would be to say he finally got around to flashing the latest official ROM (3.35, not the new leaked one) and when he restored his texts this happened. That said, if his phone really just sent out 500 texts, odds are he's got unlimited texting.

Reminds me of the time that unlimited texting somehow just "disappeared" from my wife's line and we got several hundred dollars in overages for her 3500 text messages that month. I called in and explained it, the person on the phone looked at it and laughed and said "no sane person would send that many texts without thinking she was on an unlimited plan, so obviously something went wrong here." She confirmed it by finding it on previous bills, but I loved the logic she applied before further proving it.

I restored my texts with pim backup, and it only sent 1 text message. It was one that was saved in drafts. No biggie

PIM backup wouldn't reload my old text messages either....
I take it no one has found a fix for this yet...

Ok, I found a partial fix... If you download the latest version of the software, it will actually import most of the messages that the old version would not but all except for the MMS message which it couldn''t import...
A lot better than no old text messages at all...glad to see my old texts.
I downloaded mine from "FreewarePPC".....
