Re: GPS on alltel 6800 - easy way

Shadow tech,
Thanks for all your work on this, unfortunately I am not able to get it to work. Here's what I have done:
Alltel 6800 Rom Version 3.35.671.9
Radio version 03.37.20
Installed the file to device memory (yes, I double checked this by reinstalling)
Settings/personal/phone/services/location setting/On
settings/system/external gps/
Programs Com4 selected
Hardware Gps harware port (none)
Access Manage gps auto checked
Google Maps also installed to device
options/gps settings/managed by windows selected
soft reset
*228 updated
soft reset several more times.
When I check use gps in google maps I get the message initializing and then eventually the message that no gps receiver found.

I know I am probably missing something stupid and obvious but I can't figure out what it is.

Thanks for the help

Larrupin

PS I also tried Live Search and it just says waiting for GPS

good 1st post. thanks for being detailed with your steps. unfortunately I don't know what your missing. looks to me that you did everything.

download this file:
http://johniii.tripod.com/Enable_GPS_Alltel_ppc6800.zip <--copy and paste into url bar.

extract the zip file to your phone. install each of these one at a time. start with 1, then 2, then 3, then 4.

some will just make ur screen flash, this is good, move on to the next one.

after all 4 are installed wait 20 seconds then softreset. try ur gps then.

this is the old method. i created a a new cab file but maybe it has an issue. do this and let me know if it works. good luck

Re: GPS on alltel 6800 - easy way

shadow-tech,
You are awesome, did the separate installs and it works perfectly with both Google and Live Search, got 5 sats fairly quickly.

Now if I can prevail upon your expertise yet again, which of the volume fixes for the 6800 do you recommend? (And obviously in my case the simpler the better _

Thank you so much!

Are you talking about making it so the phone is louder? Look into downloading the nueTools at nuerom.com and specifically nueAudio. If it isn't there do a Google search for nueAudio.

Forget that junk i wrote below. Went over to the other post to speed up satallite recognition and within 30 seconds I had 9 satellites while on my couch and i was looking at my house and car in the driveway in google maps! Shadowtech I have to say that is one great piece of work you threw together. Kudos to you. Thanks again!

Gary

I too am trying to get this ro work. I have reset my phone three times and run this from absolute scratch following the steps to the letter. But No worky....

I notice when trying to find the boxes in space it reads, "Searching Satellites(0)...." it will then go to "Gps active....." Then back and forth it goes.... it sat on the roof of my car for a long time with no luck. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, hope I get this thing to work.

Try going through QPST and making sure the 9 checkboxes are checked properly.

Re: GPS on alltel 6800 - easy way

OHHHHHH sorry, if it wasnt clesar, IT WORKS AWESOME NOW!!!!! With just the first patch it was a no-go. I did the speed up steps and then viola!!!!!!!! Works like a champ. My advice to anyone that cant get it to work after the first patch, do the steps for the speed up and it will work great! Thanks again!

Any word on the rumored WM 6.1 update from Alltel for the PPC6800?
