Hard Resetting? Going back to the core..

Is it a "hard reset" I want to do if I'm trying to go back to the way the phone originally was (after the upgrade)? I flashed to DCD's 2.10 ROM (Rev A & GPS) a while ago and all was well. Recently I've been having some problems (things just *freezing*, beyond use) and I've decided that rather than forget it ALL and go to a RAZR2, I thought I'd give it one more chance from a fresh start.

SO - how do I do it? I don't want to get stuck in the bootloader, my only real concern. But I do want to revert back to the original, fresh ROM settings.

Re: Hard Resetting? Going back to the core..

Hard reset will clear all your storage, third party apps, personal data and restore the ROM currently flashed on the phone...custom or OEM. So, if you had a DCD ROM and you hard reset you will still have the DCD ROM. You would need to reflash with a stock OEM ROM to get back to factory specs. It should not put you into bootloader mode (multicolored screen). Press both soft keys and soft reset hole with stylus.

Re: Hard Resetting? Going back to the core..

I'm probably in a little over my head, but I've been using whatever the latest 6.1 ROMs are (following the great directions everyone here has left - thanks!), and I'm wondering how I reset everything to the way it was just after I'd initially updated all the ROMs.

I've seen the threads about "hard resetting" but they don't seem to be like the "clear storage" feature that used to save me from my recurrent idiocy.

Is there any kind of "clear storage" feature for the 6.1 ROMs?

Or, maybe some way of seeing what I did that I shouldn't have? After playing around a little, the phone has gotten way too slow, the calendar file seems corrupted (I had intentionally deleted the PIM file as part of trying to start over), and some "as_starter.exe" file apparently can't be opened. I've tried what I think is how to hard reset, given the instructions above, but that doesn't seem to be working. I still see some of my own applications there.

Maybe I'm not understanding exactly how to hard reset?

anyone have any ideas?

thanks!

Re: Hard Resetting? Going back to the core..

BACKUP YOUR CONTACTS!!!!!!!! with the program i have attached unzip it and take the .exe out of the folder...then run it of your storage card and make sure you back eevrything up to a STORAGE CARD.....then hold down both softkeys and press the little hole for a hard reset.....this will put you back to factory setting and prabably stop your freezing issue.....after you follow all the prompts to complete the hard resset correctly...very simple to do.....run PIMBACKUP again and restore and select the file created by the backup you did before hard reset.

NOTE: there are other backup restore programs that do much more then pim but pim is the only free one...if you choose to invest in a backup program search for sprite backup...i have no expirence with sprite so cannot help you with it...but if you ahve any other questions or hesitations before doing it feel free to P.M. me

Re: Hard Resetting? Going back to the core..

thanks for the quick reply...

somehow, I'm not getting the hard reset I have in mind. Maybe I'm not understanding the instructions.

What I'm doing: On my Verizon XV9800, I'm holding the power & camera buttons, then clicking the "yes" to reset the phone. That brings me to the multi-colored window, which is when I hold the send & end buttons and press the button under the phone with the stylus to restart the device. Once it vibrates, I release everything.

Is this the wrong approach?

Surely it must be... I can't do much of anything anymore. Copying freezes, I busted my calendar up. Ha

holding the camera, power, and soft reset buttons brings you to the bootloader screen (multi-colored) which is used for flashing both radio and custom roms. to do a HARD RESET, you must press and hold both soft keys (the ones by the send and end buttons) with one hand and with the other, use the stylus to press the soft reset button by the mini usb port. it will prompt you to reset. cheers

Ha, awesome. I thought the "soft keys" were the Send and End keys.

Thanks for replying. Problem solved!
