That brings me to the multi-colored window, which is when I hold the send & end buttons and press the button under the phone with the stylus to restart the device. Once it vibrates, I release everything.

holding the camera, power, and soft reset buttons brings you to the bootloader screen (multi-colored) which is used for flashing both radio and custom roms. to do a HARD RESET, you must press and hold both soft keys (the ones by the send and end buttons) with one hand and with the other, use the stylus to press the soft reset button by the mini usb port. it will prompt you to reset. cheers
