Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM

What GPS program are you using?? I use google maps. Sometimes it can take 10-30 minutes to get a good lock, first time after reset (but I hear the newest radio is much quicker). There's lots of info about 'priming' the GPS chip, and it seems like google is a good program to do this with. Did you take your phone outside and wait...and wait...and wait???

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM

I spent a number of weeks reading through the mountains of information about upgrading/flasing/kitchens and all that stuff.
It really very overwhelming. I found some posts that were pretty explicit, but yet i still was unable to truly understand what the process looked like.
I've made a quick walkthrough document for those a little nervous about their first flash.

hope it helps someone.. it's specific to No2Chem's ROM and PPCKitchen, but is applicable in the same ways, for other kitchens and roms as well.

If you want all the extra sprint stuff (navigation), let it run otherwise soft reset during the count down.

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM

Need Help!
VX6800
Updated to:
ROM DCD 3.1.2
Radio ROM 3.42.30

Installed GPS Viewer v1.5
Tried with settings set to Com4 and Com8
GPS Viewer states that It can find the GPS on Com4 or Com8 which ever I set it to. But I can't get a FIX. I left it for a few hours and still no FIX.

Com 4 tried Com 8
4800 baud
No hardware port

Any ideas?

Verizon techsupport experience:
Phone works normal now after a few calls to Verizon to activate it properly.
Took several calls because the first few I kept getting girls that had me re-activate the phone several times with no success. I can receive calls but when I make phone calls a recording from Verizon says "We cannot authenticate your phone at this time". I asked for an acivation key or Akey and they were like, what's that? or no we don't do that. Then I asked for a tier 2 rep and they said we are the highest technical support. LOL first one to pickup the line was the highest? Bull****. I work for several call centers and I know when a tech talks bull****, I been on that side with the ID10T jokes. I waited a few hours to get a different shift. I was lucky and the first guy that answered fixed my activation but hey missed my data, so I had to call again to get that fixed. I love Verizon as a carrier and this struggle with the techsupport has'nt changed my mind.

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM

Here is the link for how to revert your 6800 back to stock:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=23053

I did spend an hour or so working with Verizon on the internet issues. What we found out is that 1 or 2 of thier server validation sites were lagging out and/or just not authenticating with my service. It took several tries and a lot of patience on our end but we got it going.

Just make sure that when u call in that u ask for Tier 3 for support and create the ticket. They are 24hrs and have no time limit on fixing the issues.

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM

Hi everybody, I'm new to the site. I was looking for bluetooth fixes for my xv6800. It will not transfer files to other bluetooth pdas even though they find each other and I can create the partnership. When I go to send my phone locks up and I have to do a soft reset. It like it gets stuck searching. Also what are the soft keys I keep reading about for a hard reset. Sorry about the basic questions but I am very new to this. Thanks

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM

This is my first time posting and I'd like to thank the original poster and everyone else involved to make this upgrade available and doable for us. I followed the steps on the first page and managed to get WM 6.1 verizon DCD 3.0.1 install on my phone. my whole propose of the upgrade was to take advantage of the built in GPS. I installed google maps and when i start the program it tries to connect to the internet. I don't have data plan on my phone so i get charged. Does gps require date plan or at least data connection to work ? one more thing to note is that on the touch screen dial pad im missing the send and end keys.

thank you for your help

GPS itself does not require a data plan, but both Google Maps and MS Live Search rely on downloading the maps to your phone.. and for this, yes, you will be charged, as it will be using data. and lots of it.
