So, my argument is that for the "assisted" portion of the A-GPS to work, one needs a data connection...why do I say this? Because, DATA is being relayed to the phone, (and vice versa). Remember the experiment I mentioned above...here are my results, (tested last night). 1) NO DATA CONNECTION, WI-FI connected, in my basement. Fired up Google Maps, clicked "Use GPS" and...nothing...wait...nothing...10 mins later, 0 satellites. Reset with Stylus to ensure "clean comparison". 2) Data connection on, Wi-Fi off, same place. Started the Data Connection by looking at the weather plugin in HTC Home. Then, fired up Google Maps, clicked "Use GPS" and...30 seconds later, 4 satellites. 2 mins later and it had between 4-7 (fluctuating) satellites. Comments? verkion |

Isn't there a hybrid mode? Where it will prefer A-GPS but use standalone if the towers aren't available?
Anyone tried to use option 3 in that setting? |

I think this is the hybrid mode. It's not that my phone can't get a lock at all, it was only because I intentionally placed it in a poor reception area. I can do the same thing with data off and wifi on and sit outside for a few minutes and it will work.

I'll test without the registry setting and with it on and edit this post.
WM6.1 no2chem testing with google maps Results: Without the reg it took exactly 40 seconds to connect to 4 satellites. I connected to the 5th in about 1 minute later. (Odd, it have taken 6 minutes at times just to connect to 1) adding reg hack and reseting. After the reg hack it took 9 seconds to connect to 4-5 satellites (started on 5 then bounced back and forth a bit. This works and there I am sure of it. No matter what anyone says, I have my own proof. Last edited by esqueue; 02-13-2008 at 10:23 PM. |
