I have sprint on dcd 2.2.6 rom, apply the fix, it take longer, usually 1-3 minutes, now 5-10 minutes on tomtom. One time, it read wrong sat coordinate. It doesn't work for me.

But then again, which ROM are you running because IMHO, that's relevant. I'm running no2chem's build 5046.
I am using the Nexvision's custom rom, based on dcd 2.2.6. But i have tryed pretty much every rom with the same result.

Re: Enabling A-GPS (Assisted GPS) on WM6.1 ROMS

I reflash with no2chem and it works, i able to get 8 satellite that I did not able with DCD with the fix you given. So, if anywone want to get this to work have to use no2chem, DCD rom doesn't work.

Re: Enabling A-GPS (Assisted GPS) on WM6.1 ROMS

just a quick point for those of you who are testing this to compare with the reg or without...

Any good GPS will remember the last location and position of the satellites so that it can get a faster fix next time. When I come back to my car after being in a store for a half hour, as soon as I turn on the GPS, it can get a fix in a few seconds. However, if I don't use the GPS, then travel somewhere and turn it on, it will take longer to re-aquaint itself and figure out where I am.

So, the point is that testing it without the reg change, changing it, resetting and trying again might not be a good test, since there's a chance the GPS is simply using the saved information from the test a few minutes ago as a reference point.

A proper test:
Try without the reg change.
Then change the reg entry, and turn off the phone.
Drive about 5-10 miles, turn it on, and get another fix. Compare the time from that to the original.

5-10 miles is not good enough. There will not be much difference in the orbital pattern of the satellites above you in that short distance. 150+ miles is a better test (as any owners of a Garmin device can tell you since it prompts you when you can't get a fix). I enabled this setting 2500 miles since my last fix (was traveling in California) and there was zero difference in satellite fix time.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this doesn't really work... it seems to be placebo. When I was in California and turned my device off then traveled 10-20 miles before turning it back on I got a fix within 30 seconds without this registry tweak.. sometimes I got a fix within a few seconds.

Re: Enabling A-GPS (Assisted GPS) on WM6.1 ROMS

I'm sitting in my office right now, looking at VisualGPSCE showing me 5 satellites, 4 in use, within a minute of resetting and starting the program. Normally, after 4-5 minutes I'll get 1 or 2 satellites to show up and occasionally after 10 minutes a third will register, but there will never be enough to get a fix in this location, ever. Here at work I'm on the top of 3 floors with a large window and excellent EvDo service. I'll try it at home where there's no cellular signal at all. If this helps by enabling aGPS I'd expect to see no improvement over the usual performance in that location.

I do not accept the "placebo" arguments since I am able to get a strong position fix in a location where this has never been possible before over multiple trials. The only change is the registry hack. Further, when I change the value back to "2" and reset, I am no longer able to obtain a position fix. I even drew an outline of the phone on my desk pad to ensure the handset's position was identical over the trials.

I'm using the "stock" leaked 3.16 ROM on Sprint. I run QuickGPS frequently.

With this hack enabled, will the GPS still function if a call comes in or if the phone radio is turned off?

Re: Enabling A-GPS (Assisted GPS) on WM6.1 ROMS

I use nochems 50whatever7 rom and it will find satellites but not use any of them. I changed the setting back to 2 and now it finds less but connects to as many as it can. Don't ask me why.
