Well in that case I go with di18 version 4.2 with dk17 modem I think... can't be sure if I remembered correctly if that had free hotspot but as I recall it was free and it worked on 4g too. or...wait until the real 2.2.1 comes out it rumored to come day after christmas.

Re: WiFi HotSpot - To Root or Not?

So, other question comes to mind then, I was talking to a guy at work who claims he tethers his droid to his laptop with a free app that he downloaded. claims he doesn't get charged at all for the service and when I asked him if his phone was rooted he looked at me like I had just spoken in a foreign language to him. He says its a stock phone...can someone tell me what that could be, because if I can tether without rooting I'd rather do that at this point.?

You mean PDAnet? it works but the free version has a limitation of no HTTPS sites...its also usb only...bluetooth option doesn't work to my knowledge on our phones.

Re: WiFi HotSpot - To Root or Not?

I see so I would be limited to sites with HTTP mainly? I noticed Easy Tether was one that advertises doing both, has anyone tried it?

By https you mean access an encrypted connection? But it will let you browse away as long as its just a regular http right? If so can you use a tunnel and bypass all that https bullshit?

I choose NOT to use cable internet... why would i want to, using my phone its free... and given i use around 100GBs a month, id say the speed im sacrificing isnt much of an issue lol... thought id throw that in there..

back to your thread about Wifi-Tethering w/o Root.... which btw isnt possible right??? not even with a paid app?? I have xdandroid so im rooted and it works...

hey what about the hack i read about for free wifi tethering? it was as simple as moving the widget for it to the homescreen or something ridiculous like that... said it bypasses the auth screen by doing this..... was anyone brave enough to try that? my bro-in-law has an Evo, even a 30 dollar app is better than 30/month..
