Will The Epic 4G Get Android Version 2.2?

Sorry if this has already been covered, but I tried looking.

If you HAVE heard, then have you also heard a time frame? I also wonder if v2.2 is where we top out at?

Thanks
Paul

Yes it will...The international Galaxy S are getting it in September but Epic may have some delay cause they still gotta get TW3 working on it...

Froyo is coming.
Gingerbread is going on the Galaxy Tab so yes, it will run on the Epic.

Well, I'm not sure if I want to do that yet? I just went through a year with an unlocked TP2, burning every new ROM that came out. Looking back at that whole thing, I think the TP2 really benefited, its hardware was slow to begin with. It needed all the optimizations it could get, but what a major PITA it got to be!

With the Epic, there hasn't been a single thing that doesn't just WORK fast and intuitively(so far). What a pleasant change from the TP2, where the motto is "there's a cab for that"!

I'm not saying that I won't root this device, but so far I haven't had a huge urge to mess with it. The one feature that I can gain is the wireless hot spot for FREE, but I don't have a laptop to connect it to...yet, so I'm waiting. Plus I'm still learning about the phone, who knows, I might find it'll serve breakfast in bed if I root it, in that case I'll be ON IT!!!

The easiest way to accomplish this (and I use easiest very loosely) is to port it over from another very similar device. At this time, there isn't a similar enough device to snatch froyo from. Then there's the task of porting it over TO our devices.

The other option, is to make a complete working build from scratch (like they're working on w/ the TP2).. this isn't even an option worth entertaining since they're gonna release Froyo soon anyway.

What I'm predicting are some polished 2.1 ROMs once they can get a working recovery. Then once 2.2 is released for the international Galaxy S devices, porting over to the Epic may begin (if we don't have an official 2.2 update by then).. but this is speculation.

There is an 'almost' working/functional clockwork recovery ATM.. so they're getting closer to being able to flash ROMs to it.

the development scene is getting very exciting.
