The easiest way to accomplish this (and I use easiest very loosely) is to port it over from another very similar device. At this time, there isn't a similar enough device to snatch froyo from. Then there's the task of porting it over TO our devices.
The other option, is to make a complete working build from scratch (like they're working on w/ the TP2).. this isn't even an option worth entertaining since they're gonna release Froyo soon anyway.
What I'm predicting are some polished 2.1 ROMs once they can get a working recovery. Then once 2.2 is released for the international Galaxy S devices, porting over to the Epic may begin (if we don't have an official 2.2 update by then).. but this is speculation.
There is an 'almost' working/functional clockwork recovery ATM.. so they're getting closer to being able to flash ROMs to it.
the development scene is getting very exciting.
