Re: so far epic gps sucks.

I don't know if its luck of the draw that you get an Epic with a GPS that works perfectly (like I did) or if it has to do with where you live, but I would say go ahead and get one and if you have problems, return it. I was using mine as a GPS out in the middle of BFE last week and it worked perfectly. I had Google Maps up and running and had to use the satellite view because there are no roads on the map layer where I was. The little blue arrow was dead on balls accurate all day. I have also used it driving around the city and out in the rural areas out of town with no issues at all.

i'm also on sero. if i take the plunge, there's no going back from sero premium, and that's a hard pill to swallow for a non-working GPS.

Re: so far epic gps sucks.

So far Ive used GPS inside my house and outside and it worked fine on the 2 Epics that I've tried...so I don't know what to say..maybe with future updates it'll be 100% fixed for everyone..most people who have issues says it works off a cold boot fine so that at least eliminates a hardware issue..so no reason why it shouldn't be fixed.

From what I can tell swapping will make no difference. The prime problem is a software issue in all Epics, and the secondary issue is one of less than perfect satellite reception which would be a hardware design, such as GPS anttenna hardware, and also would be the same on any exchange.
Hopefully they can fix the first issue with an update, as it causes the most problems, but they have not yet. The second problem will affect you more in rany conditions, etc., and I think can't be fixed.

This is ALL Galaxy S phones, but still only seems to be affecting random users. There's plenty of complaints with the GSM ATT Captivate and T-Mobile Vibrant too.

I haven't had a problem getting locks, my problem is using it for navigation. Using Google Maps I'll randomly get the blue circle around me, which means it doesn't have a good lock and its an approximate location...and I have the Captivate. I have a Garmin, so I only rely on my phone for navigation if I don't have my Garmin with me.

So far Samsung has dropped the ball on the GPS issues. Its hard to tell if its software or hardware. I know they're using a new Broadcom chip, but there are a few phones (Nokia and maybe a BB) that use it without problems.

Hopefully they'll have it fixed for everyone when Froyo comes out (if its software/driver issues).

Re: so far epic gps sucks.

Mines works ok. I get a lock in about 20 seconds on cold. Indoors about a minute. I have noticed its not tha accurate like my tp2.Tp2 would locate me within 3 meter radius.Epic puts me around 6 to 9 meter.

Actually...from what was ehard recently the Epic and Fascinate use a different GPS chip...we got the same one as in the Droid made by Qualcomm...since I'm not hearing GPS issues with the Droids would have to assume its a software issue. Though my GPS seems to work ok :/

I have actually had no gps issues with my epic. I generally leave gps off until I need it, but once it's on...it is johnnie on the spot.

Sent from my Epic 4g using Tapatalk Pro.
